Ben Heck stuffs a wired 360 controller in a DualShock 3 shell

Nilay Patel writes:

"We can always count on our man Ben Heck to be up to something crazy in his mad console-modding workshop, and while his latest creation isn't as wild as the PS3 laptop, it's still good for a double-take -- check out this wired 360 controller shoehorned into a DualShock3 shell, complete with green LEDs. Ben says it works great, rumble included, but that there's no headset connector and the L2 and R2 triggers aren't analog -- both things he's hoping to fix in the next version."

Who in their right mind, would do such a thing??!!

To put a PS3 dualshock 3 in a X360 controller that I can understand but the reverse its just nuts :)

I have both consoles and use both controllers but the 360 one is better, if it was possible I would use it in both (ELITE and 40g PS3)

Thanks.

Lifendz6514d ago

and I admit that I may be biased but I'm just used to the Dual Shock design. The 360 controller isn't bad, it just isn't the DS.

NathanGra6514d ago

For one, especially with the release of SC4 recently, how about the d-pad? The 360's is like one, big rubbery nipple. Can't tell you how many times I've tried to press one direction and the controller registered something completely different. Plus the buttons feel way too stiff and resistant to press on the 360.

I will admit, however, that the controller for the 360 fits in your hand better, though.

iamtehpwn6514d ago

For everything except FPS.
DualShock has always provided the best standardized gaming control experience, imo.

GiantEnemyCrab6514d ago

Agreed. I have no idea why anyone would want to do this. I would rather not game than use a DS controller.

Ben does some great stuff this definately isn't one of them.

I prefer DS3 over 360 controller anyday. I've been using the Dualshock design since the day of the Playstation 1.

dro6514d ago (Edited 6514d ago )

360 controles are the best for shooters.u have to admit..i got a ps3 but i played cod4 in my friends house that had a 360 and it was much better, but the directional buttons is not as good...i want this gy to create a ps3 pad with the exact motion system the wii use.

OgTheClever6514d ago (Edited 6514d ago )

Why exactly does not having parallel/symmetrical analogue sticks make the 360 controller better for shooters, disregarding the triggers for a moment? (I actually prefer using R1 anyway)

Evil Rant Monkey6514d ago (Edited 6514d ago )

<I own both consoles and find the disposition of the 360 sticks favorable. They also have dips which grip to your thumbs a lot better. And why disregard the triggers? They're one of the main reasons the 360 controller is sweet for FPS console gaming.)

okcomputer6514d ago

Its not really the position of the sticks (although that helps for fps games too) its the traction and the sensitivity of the sticks that makes the 360 better for fps control. The ps3's sticks aren't bad, and they worked fine for me in drake and mgs4, but they just feel too loose for more quick response shooters like cod4

spandexxking6514d ago

' okcomputer

have you tried the dualshock 3 yet? they tightened the analogue sticks a bit

OgTheClever6514d ago

Well i do find the 360 sticks a bit fiddly, also i doubt there is really much difference between the actual sensitivity of the two controllers.

sloth4urluv6514d ago

for me id have to say its the more natural position of the analog stick. The analog stick position on the DS feels awkward to me.
Only genre id prefer a digital pad in is like side scrollers and fighting games.

OgTheClever6514d ago

Well i guess the right 360 stick must be very unnatural, especially for playing shooters - which are considered by many to be it's speciality.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle33d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde40d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy40d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga41d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199241d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga41d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman41d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box42d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion41d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7241d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7541d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit41d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14941d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7741d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
