Microsoft planned Xbox One content for E3 2015 and Gamescom at the same time

Even though it has taken a while for some people to come around on the performance of Microsoft over the past few years, they have certainly made a magnificent turn around ever since their PR stumble with the Xbox One's initial reveal. In fact, the Xbox One has arguably received the best game content when compared with the PS4's.

I love how they treated Gamescom as a second E3 this year because both were filled with megatons and they really did make a splash with both conferences. Hats off to the Xbox team, following them on twitter live-tweeting and meeting fans all week showed me just how hard they work for Xbox fans

Mystogan3962d ago

It definitely felt like a second E3.Now I want a third E3!!

donthate3962d ago

It was insane, and I hope MS will have more announcement early next year. MS is moving at blazing speed to reach their goal as "best gaming platform" on Xbox.

Color me impressed!

elarcadia3962d ago

I am going to PAX Prime for the first time this year, so I am sorta hoping that will be like a third E3 ;).

JMaine5183962d ago

They did a good job with both. One was heavy on this year and the other heavy on next year. They have it all planned out well.

It definitely was smart to do this. Hopefully in the future e3`s and gamescom`s they do this again.

Definitely building quite a list of exclusive titles too. Fall of 2015 there first party is 90 percent in full effect with rise of tombraider being the only title that isn't first party.

Not many people i guess notice that in 2016 Microsoft literally have all there titles under there first party umbrella.

Rookie_Monster3962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

Word. It is really like a 3 hour show with no fillers and is game reveal after game reveal. Like the fact that they dropped the BC and Cloud compute megatons for each conference, respectively.

Whitey2k3962d ago

I just wanna see how sony does at Paris game show , tgs and PSE , I don't care if Microsoft rushes there exclusives I'm just looking 4ward to what's ahead like hitman and world of Final fantasy ff7 shenmue. Street fight 7 I'm not bothered who got the best I just like games that's coming to sonys console

RiseofScorpio3962d ago

He'll be waiting a long, long time for some of those games.

Death3962d ago

lol, rushes? This gen is hitting it's third Holiday in a few months. I'm not sure Microsoft is rushing anything. Maybe the others are just taking longer than usual. I think I would rather have "rushed" games than wait for the end of the gen to play them.

It's kind of ironic seeing people complain Microsoft waits till the end of the year to release games, but they are ok waiting until the end of the console generation to get the ones they want.

Spotie3962d ago

End of the gen? Where the hell are you getting that from? We're coming up on the third full year- second for XB1 and PS4- and you're talking about people supposedly waiting the entire gen for games?

And where's the irony in complaining about MS leaving everything to the end of the year when the competition has been releasing games all year-round?

magiciandude3962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

@Hicken

The competition has canceled their big guns to next year, while MS will still release them this year. What has Sony released all year that's actually significant besides The Order 1886 and Bloodborne?

Automatic793962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

Well said @Death I paid for a new console to enjoy all First party and third party titles and relying on third parties only in the third holiday season is not enough. I ask this question, then why upgrade to new Gen when last Gen still providing great third party games, For example Metal Gear, EA sports titles, Call of Duty etc. No disrespect to all who say that Xbox had no games early on this year which I beg to differ but the pendulum/tide has changed and most waiting for next year a whole year for a game is inexcusable especially when there hardware sales is through the roof.

Death3962d ago

Shenmue III just hit it's Kickstarter goal. When do you think we will see the game released? Same goes for FFVII remake. It was just announced and Square has quite a few games already in the works. Both consoles launched in 2013 and 2016 isn't that far off. If either of these games make a late 2017 release that will not only be impressive but it will also be 4 years into the gen and the 5th holiday buying season. How long do you think this gen will last?

BlackTar1873962d ago (Edited 3962d ago )

" No disrespect to all who say that Xbox had no games early on this year which I beg to differ but the pendulum/tide has changed and most waiting for next year a whole year for a game is inexcusable especially when there hardware sales is through the roof."

^ Such hypocrisy

So for the people saying PS4 gamers have nothing for the holiday season don't get the same courtesy you're willing to give xbox for the no AAA releases for almost an entire calendar year?

How can you not see how ridiculous this statement is? HOLY FRICKING MOLY

Also next year isn't a whole year away it's 4 months lol.

MeliMel3962d ago

Let em keep waiting. We got plenty to play on Xbox One and more on the way this yr. MS got is covered next yr aswell.

Spotie3962d ago

@magician: It's been said time and again, but what's considered "significant" is of individual taste. It's not some blanket descriptor you can use to determine a game's worth. To that end, Persona is the most significant game of the year to me(and plenty of others, I'm sure). But with the way Xbox fans and fanboys frequently forget about it, it might as well not exist, right?

@Michael: What is with the arbitrary limits on WHEN games count all of a sudden? I don't remember these requirements last generation. You beg to differ, but the only games the XB1 has had so far this year are the very same types of games you're simultaneously disregarding for the PS4. The hypocrisy there is IQ-lowering.

@Death: The consoles launched at the end of 2013, with hardly enough left in the year to call it worth much(aside from the holiday rush). This November will mark the completion of the second full year. Completely different from the image you're trying to paint, the PS4 will be going on 4 years old if you assume the end of 2017 for FFVIIR and Shenmue. Hardly that long of a wait, all things considered. Furthermore, why suddenly treat Uncharted like it doesn't exist? Or GT, or God of War, or Horizon? No Man's Sky? SOMA? Exactly what thought process led you to ignore every game out and every game soon to be released for the PS4 to say it'll be that long before anything big drops?

At the same time, you're using the indie titles you so readily ignore for PS4 to say "Hey, the XB1 still had games this year!" Well, PS4 has had games all year, indie and AAA and everything inbetween. I simply cannot fathom the hypocrisy that allows you to gloss over them- and every other game- like they don't exist here, while championing them in multiple other comments.

How long do I think the generation will last? Hell if I know. And why should I care? All I care about is that the games come out. You think it makes a difference if the game comes out at the start of the generation or the beginning? Or are you just setting things up so that, when the gen's end rolls around and Microsoft has nothing to give Xbox owners(again), you can try to excuse them by pointing to all the games they had at the start?

It boggles my mind how you can actually, in the same comment, put down the scores of indies on PS4 when you JUST bragged about the ones on Xbox. How you can ONLY talk about the games you're interested in and yet act like games outside those don't exist. Most of all, it's amazing that you can do all that and still be taken seriously.

Death3962d ago

@Spotie,

"You think it makes a difference if the game comes out at the start of the generation or the beginning?"

I'm fairly certain it makes no difference if a game comes out at the start or the beginning. Coming out in the front of the generation probably has no impact from the start or beginning either.

If a game comes out at the start or the end makes a difference though. The difference is typically measured in years. If you want to get technical the difference between the beginning and the end is pretty substantial too.

I'm starting to understand why it feels like I'm running in circles with you though. ;)

What indies am I bragging about with Xbox? I think the only indie that I have any interest in is Cuphead, but that's because I am old and remember cartoons that look like the game. That's also the first time I mentioned an indie and didn't follow it with shovelware in the same sentence.

DigitalRaptor3962d ago

Honestly I wouldn't bother replying at all to this but Spotie has you all pinned down by your out of touch comments, and I thought I'd tag in and contribute.

No PlayStation console in history has had a stellar first couple of years in terms of first-party. In fact, when PS2 was reigning in all the sales, it took at least 1-2 years for the first-party lineup to get moving to the point in which is was crazy. How is this generation any different? Go on... I'm all ears. Only the insecure Xbox guys are acting like Sony is doing anything different with the PS4 and acting complacent.

All of a sudden because Microsoft is releasing lots of games at the end of said year, it makes gullible loyalists believe that the competition is resting on its laurels. This is the illusion they aim to provide with shoving all their big games into one melting pot in the last 2-3 months of the year.

Not to mention that 6 months ago, Xbox fans were bagging and laughing at PS4 for all the ports and remasters, and the only AAA retail games that have released for Xbox One in 10 months since the Master Chief Collection (a remaster port collection) is Rare Replay (remastered ports) and soon will be Gears Ultimate (remastered port). C'mon son. Sony has had those ports too, and you're listing ports. Take those ports away and then what?

Never in my time have I heard of a group of gamers willing to actively ignore great looking games and concepts like SOMA (the follow up to one of the greatest horror games ever made), just because it's a digital indie game. In addition, we have Tearaway Unfolded, Persona 5, Until Dawn, No Man's Sky, The Nathan Drake Collection with Uncharted 4 beta, Dragon Quest Heroes and I'm missing some. That's a lot of games coming out around the same time in which Xbox is releasing all its big games at once.

And like Spotie said... what is "significant", when a word like that is extremely grounded in opinion? Because I'm sorry, but so many games this gen that I've seen laughed off by fanboys as indies or niche games have gone on to be fantastic games that have sold loads of copies, and been successful. A game like Sunset Overdrive is considered "significant" to you, yet an indie game like Transistor has gone on to sell almost the same amount in the same amount of time. So where do you draw the line? Thomas Was Alone was a significant game in terms of mainstream appeal went across multiple platforms and did well for its creator - so why is Volume (new game, same developer) that released today any less significant? because from what I'm looking at, it's a great game for all the right reasons. And there are so many of these great games coming to PS4 as well as all the bigger games that I've already listed.

You should be careful when pinning the word "insignificant" on things.

BlackTar1873962d ago

Digital i didn't even know what SOMA is and then after your post looked it up and saw that it was made by the Prenumbra group and am now 100% on board. Watched the video SCI FI HORROE F YES

Thanks

magiciandude3962d ago

@Digital

Who said Sunset Overdrive was significant? And Transistor is a cross-platform game on PC, PS4, and mobile. That's why it sold similarly as a game on only one system.

Death3962d ago

It's an uphill battle if you want to claim indies are the same as retail console releases. I would hope many of these budget games sell well. Isn't that why they exist? Low budget/low risk/high reward? If you are happy with indie games, why does it matter how powerful the PS4 or Xbox are? The games do not use the consoles available power, they are simply low budget filler no matter how glamorous you make them sound. The top rated PS4 indies came directly from the PS3 library.

Where do you want to draw the line on content for the new gen of consoles? Indies count because Sony has more. I get it. What about the Xbox 360 games that will be available for download off the Xbox store, do they count? We count ports on the PS4 since they are resold due to the systems inability to play games in b/c. Are we going to count games that can be streamed too? It looks like the argument can be made many ways depending on what you feel qualifies as content. I'm looking for games that showcase what todays consoles are capable of. Indies and ports from last gen games don't do this. I'm not saying these games don't have their place on todays consoles, but they aren't the reasons most of us buy new consoles. I'm looking forwards to Gears Remastered and playing through the entire campaign via b/c downloads with my kid. I'm also looking forward to the Uncharted Collection on my PS4. As much fun as these will be, they aren't the same as playing a new Uncharted, Forza or a new Halo.

Phil Spencer Was Good for Xbox, but His Legacy Is Complicated

Was Phil Spencer good for Xbox? Whatever you think of the retiring boss’s decade-plus tenure, there was rarely a dull moment.

Lightning77103d ago

Too soon to say. What if things are more of the same? That's my biggest fear.

KyRo102d ago

You don't get rid of big portions of a division to replace them to do the same thing. MS has been critical of Xbox for a few years now.

As a Sony fan, I hope they can bring competition back to Sony because I think Sony have become very complacent the generation. They haven't had time try and whilst there's been a few good exclusives, nothing on the level or as memorable as previous PS generations.

S2Killinit102d ago

I disagree with your blanket statement but overall yeah I think they need to step up more. However, I’m not sure that has anything with xbox but rather with the disruptions we had at the beginning of the generation. Covid, and then the shortage in chips, then the ram…

MrDead102d ago

Yes the industry and it's workforce thank Phil for the massive industry consolidation, thousands fired and still being fired because of MS buyups and for making people like Bobby Kotick even richer.

Reaper22_102d ago

Thats true. Bobby did get a little richer. But name a CEO who isn't rich or getting richer. When I look around the industry I see a bunch of people getting fired. Not just from Microsoft. That is, unless you think the devs from Bluepoint deserved to be fired. Unfortunately, things like this will continue to happen whether you like it or not.

MrDead102d ago

Can you list other companies that are doing mass layoffs because of spending $80 billion on massive industry consolidation? Can you list other companies that purchased two of the largest publishers to make the industry less competitive?

Your fangirling over MS's corporate greed doesn't work on me kid, it does expose you though.

CrashMania102d ago

Was he? It became slightly better after he took over, but it turned in to a gen of just halo gears and forza. And he tried to monopolise massive parts of the industry with ridiculous acquisitions that ironically lead to the opposite, a near complete collapse of xbox console sales, and putting their tentpole IPs everywhere, all but abandoning xbox consoles going forward for a PC disguised like one.

Reaper22_102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

Id say his legacy is complicated, but if you focus on all the bad and ignore the positive things anyone can seem bad. He did have some positive impacts on the xbox platform.
Launched and grew Gamepass-
Invested in backwards compatibilty enabling thousands of older titles to play on modern hardware-
Grew the xbox box first party lineup
Brought xbox into the PC space
Hardware and feature improvements for xbox consoles
Pushed for cross-play support

And there's more but if you asked xbox gamers they'd say that he is viewed as overall a positive thing for the brand. No one expects non xbox gamers to say many positive things about him or the brand. Project Helix happened under his leadership and that is seen as a positive for the brand too.

SonyStyled102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

Launching and growing Gamepass as a positive? When it was $1 absolutely! This is also what fueled the death of Xbox as the standard living room console

TiredGamer102d ago

Agree. With how XBox imploded after the attempt to monopolize the industry, and one of the worst launches of a new console, we might be edging to Phil being a disaster to Xbox in the long run.

MDTunkown102d ago

He was good the first 6 months as the lead

Agent75101d ago

Then he forgot about the games. Poor Phil.

Phil Spencer Retiring, Sarah Bond Out, Microsoft AI Exec Asha Sharma Named New Xbox Boss

Big changes are being made at the top of Microsoft's gaming division.

CrashMania123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

MS knack for one upping bad news from other companies so soon afterwards is pretty astounding lol. Can't say I'm surprised though, this gen has been dreadful for the xbox brand.

Being replaced by an AI boss exec though, yikes.

123d ago Replies(8)
-Foxtrot123d ago

I always had this theory that they both wait to see if the other announces something bad so they can announce their bad thing, thus the two talking points bleed together enough to cause overall confusion online.

It then becomes just a big bad thing for the industry rather than a specific company. Wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft were up next again at this point.

Eonjay123d ago

I have to agree with you. As if this decision was made today. Yeah right lol

darthv72123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

Huh... well that is sure interesting.

@crash, is it bad news though? I mean many here have said he needed to leave... now he and Bond are leaving. That should be good news to some.

Extermin8or3_123d ago

It's more the fact the person incharge of AI being taking over. That's a very deliberate decision.

Profchaos123d ago

Xbox fans have wanted Phil gone for a long time he's probably the least favourite exec of all time behind matrick purely because uber his leadership he decived fans and took the Xbox brand multiplatform

badz149123d ago

Indian takeover of Microsoft

PapaBop122d ago

Considering MS's obsession with ai, this is probably a demotion for her. Still, I enjoy poking fun at Spencer but ultimately it's sad to see him go, he's made mistakes for sure but I think he genuinely cared about the Xbox brand. Sharma seems very corporate to me and certainly not the Spencer replacement Xbox fans would have hoped for.

They are integrating everything into one platform (PC-like experience), that says it all. There is no longer a regular Xbox console, games are installed from Steam etc. on the next console/PC hybrid [if desired].

shinXseijuro241d ago

If the rog costs over 1000k with the tax and shipping included to Canadian consumers , what will the hybrid Xbox / pc cost ? If I were to go fully pc next gen I wouldn’t want to be locked behind an ecosystem after putting over 1000k out for the console/pc/hybrid . It’s already off to a bad start

shadowfax33240d ago

the screen itself was key factor for Xbox ally x final retail price..the console wont have it.

but even if it did cost 1000$, if it can play new PC games in high settings then price is kinda justified.

shadowfax33240d ago

Eonjay241d ago

If it cost that much if better be upgradable otherwise it won't have the biggest advantages of either PC (upgradeability) or console (price/performance).

DarXyde241d ago

And this is the point I don't think Microsoft understands. Investing in their ecosystem after 2025 doesn't make sense to me. People playing on console are going to look at this price and scoff. It is probably also too late to make an ultra-powerful console: visual fidelity and frame rates are really in a good spot right now. With next generation platforms, no one should really be expecting anything astronomical. That will take serious power and the hardware to do that is simply not practical, especially in this economy with this US president.

Launching this thing has exclusively one benefit: You can play PlayStation and PC-exclusive games on Xbox (assuming it really does allow for Steam). But even then, why would any spend this much on static hardware?

I don't get this direction at all. Maybe they really do have pressure to get that 30% profit margin. If that's the case, I wouldn't count on them cutting down the price of hardware and selling it at a steep loss by allowing games on other platforms. But hey, they're the trillion-dollar company, so I might be just be talking about something I don't understand.

gold_drake240d ago

love how confident they are in their absolute idiocy

dveio240d ago

A console primarily is a choice by budget. And people have

• different budgets and
• only even want to spend different budgets

I think it's a bad business choice them leaving the console business.

And in turn a good business choice from Sony to keep building a classic home console with PS6. (Which I highly doubt won't even exceed nor even touch PS5 Pro's release price.)

When they bought Zenimax and ActivisionBlizzardKing, they should have upped their Xbox support program to 100bn and spend the rest of it for building studios & creating new games, giving their developers freedom & full creative control.

But they hit the roof at 75bn. This was it.

And then went to maximize profits by 30% starting Fall 2023, according to Bloomberg, and put their bets only on "Call of Duty in Gamepass will do".

I can already picture their next premium Xbox failing at a 90:10 chance.

Dark-soul240d ago

Not budged, if i want i can buy pc for 10k , but i prefer consoles, because games are better optimized on consoles and more cozy to sit in couch and play on huge 2 meter tv and have dolby atmos setup + ps5 controller is cool + nostalgia = i will always play on consoles

dveio240d ago

"Not budged, if i want i can buy pc for 10k“

Yeah. That's my second point above, like "or only even want to spend a specific budget".

But console gaming, no matter the direction of people's reasons, is a budget choice.

There's been a market for "a gaming box cheaper than a top gaming PC" for almost 40 years now.

And it will continue to exist.

Miraak82 240d ago

Optimized doesn't really mean better or the best version or experience you can have though . I'm ready to get into PC gaming again soon as I really don't want to play most new games on my base PS5, having to choose between gfx and performance is such a drag as choosing either/or is a hindered experience and I've felt it for some time now . I could waste money on a Pro or timegate myself till the ps6 comes out but I think I'm gonna step into the future now.

I'm like the complete opposite of you as my console setup is like a PC setup with a 27 monitor , gamer chair , big desk , headset and even have a KB hooked up to my ps5 .it's so hard to play competitive and mmo games on a big screen lol.

jwillj2k4240d ago

Console gaming is absolutely not just a budget choice. We want the exclusive games, better experience and to support the brands we like. Budgets do come into the picture but this is the same for every industry, including PC’s. This is why “budget gaming pc’s” with similar prices never sell like ps/nintendo.

Jin_Sakai240d ago

Another Xbox console will be DOA. Just stick to making games and leave the hardware behind. Xbox is over.
