Microsoft: "We're doing things that can't be done on any other console"

According to Xbox executive Kudo Tsunoda, the Xbox One has "a lot more going on" than the PlayStation 4 and other competing platforms. In a new interview, Tsunoda talks about how Xbox One features like backwards compatibility, as well as cross-play and cross-buy with PC, give the Xbox One the upper hand.

Competition is great. When one platform is "losing" gamers as a whole, and owners of the "losing" platform in particular win big. Microsoft would never have done a lot of the things they're doing with the XB1 now if they weren't behind Sony. Just look how complacent Sony is since they're ahead. This is why I own both both consoles and hope both continue to sell well because it fuels competition. Also, it doesn't hurt that good sales also serves as a slap in the face to all those who said that 'consoles are dead' before this gen started

Genuine-User3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

What a load of tosh.

on-topic:

Crossbuy and Cross-play have been a thing since last-gen on Playstation. Kudo Tsunoda is a bit loopy.

TheGreatGamer3804d ago

Care to point out why what I said is a 'load of tosh'? I'd very much like to know what specifically you disagreed with and why

raWfodog3804d ago

@TheGreatGamer

Speaking for myself, I disagree with your statement "Just look how complacent Sony is since they're ahead". Just cause Sony's holiday schedule for exclusive titles may not be as full as MS, that doesn't translate into complacency. They still have plenty of great exclusive titles coming even if they are scheduled for 2016 release and beyond. They still have plenty of conferences scheduled for this year as well as plenty of multiplat titles that PS4 gamers can still enjoy this year.

suckingeggs3804d ago

Lol cross buy and cross play... Hasn't Sony done this before ms?

Its easy to say each console does things the others can't....the most impressive feature this gen has to be share play

LOL @yarbie what a weak list of things Xbox can do that ps4 can't more then half of those are non gaming related lol. <==== why gamers are choosing PS4

Complacent to Xbox fanboys for sony = Putting out more games, having more conferences, Adding game related features.

Don't worry yarb I got you bruh.

PS4 to vita cross play
Share play
PS4 to vita remote play.

PS4 to vita cross buy
Use of vita as additional controller
Project Morpheus vr support
Etc etc etc

Its not hard to come up with crap that each can and can't do bro, its part of their speak, though cloud destruction is awesome.

.....hell even wiiu has a bevvy of thing s it can do that the others can't, though I won't make a list for that because the amount of thing missing is hefty.

Rookie_Monster3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Genuine-user,

He was talking about cross buy AND cross play between Current consoles and PC for current games like KI season 3 and NOT something like between current gen consoles and last gen consoles.

So in that sense I think he is correct, unless the Wii U or PS4 also let you cross buy with PC as well that I wasn't aware of. A game like SFV is indeed cross play between console and PC, but is not Cross buy. Understanding the context is key.

Edit @Dragonknight below, thanks for proven my point. As SFV and FFXIV are not cross buy compatible between PC. PlanetSide 2 and DCUO are not Cross platform compatible with PC.

https://www.dcuniverseonlin... IS THE GAME PLAYABLE ACROSS PC AND PLAYSTATION PLATFORMS?
PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4 gamers play together on shared servers. The PC version has dedicated servers that are not shared with the PlayStation versions.

https://www.planetside2.com... WILL THERE BE CROSS-PLATFORM PLAY BETWEEN PC AND PS4 PLAYERS?We want PlanetSide 2 to be an experience that’s fun, rewarding, and balanced for both console and PC gamers, so we’ve decided to keep the platforms separate.

So my point still stands correct as non of those games you had just mentioned are Cross buy and Cross play at the same time on console and PC at the same time like KI season 3. :D

DragonKnight3804d ago

@yarbie: I think you are confused. Some of those things aren't being done on PS4, but do explain why they CAN'T be done on the PS4

@Rookie: SFV, FFXIV, Planetside 2, just some small examples of cross-play on PS4. I believe PS3 had DCUO and Dust 514. So really, MS is late to the party.

InTheLab3804d ago

Didn't we get portal 2 for steam when we picked up the ps3 version. Pretty sure ps3 did cross buy years ago with pc....

Kal0psia3804d ago

Crossplay on PS to PC was only game specific, this is a more extensive approach with all Windows 10 platforms. So you're missing the point. It'll be more relevant now than ever before which PS4 can't do.

Antwan3k3804d ago

A load of tosh?.. well, to be fair, he's telling the truth sir.. Xbox One is doing free and native backwards compatibility and they are also the only console offering the level of cross-play, cross-chat, and cross-buy with PC gamers..

And btw, having cross-buy and cross-play with a dead handheld (PS Vita) isn't remotely on the same level of being able to cross-buy and cross-play with a thriving PC community..

TheCommentator3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@dragonknight

Nope. Shaowrun on 360/PC was first to crossplay. Sony was late.

Otherwise, PS4 can't do:
-1080p/60 HEVC game streaming.
-Free copies of the PC versions with cross buy, play, chat.
-BC, and previous iterations of 360 titles as gifts when purchasing the latest game releases on XB1.
-Cloud enhanced gaming.
-External HDD support.

Mr Pumblechook3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

I'm pretty sure that it was Sony who created and first used the terms 'Cross-Buy' (for Vita & PS3) and 'Cross-Play' although they failed to trademark them. So for Microsoft to be lecturing Sony doesn't reflect well on them.

Competition is good but only if the manufacturers are being productive and competing with superior products and services. This is just PR mudslinging and I rather not see the games media reporting on who said lies with the most charismatic smile.

r2oB3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@ rookie monster

The cross buy would most likely be limited to games published by Microsoft. I doubt most publishers are willing to give away the PC versions of their games for free.

And will cross play work with PC gamers that use Steam?

EDIT: @ the commentator

How will 1080p/60fps streaming work if the game itself doesn't meet those standards? Having the ability to stream 1080/60 is kind of moot if the games themselves are only 900/30. Unless you are telling me the Xbox one will stream at a higher standard than it can play the games, Also, can I do 1080/60 streaming outside my home network? Can I do any streaming outside my home network?

Letthewookiewin3804d ago

I play Final Fantasy 14 on PS4 with people who are on PC. Piss off.

Streaming from Console to your PC
My PC has an HDMI port.
The PS Vita TV does the same thing with the PS4 except it's very portable and easy to transport to your friend's house.

Cloud Destruction
Like Battlefield 4?

Appear Offline
The best way to play with your friends, play a AI Ghost version of them. Real next-gen Multi-player right here./s

External HD Support
PS4 also has external HDD support for Media, even 3Tb USB 3.0 HDD are compatible if you format it to FAT32.

Backwards Compatibility
Awesome feature, replay the games you already own. No need to keep that unreliable console. Best played on the Xbox One.
The alter-ego of that is PlayStation Now.
Play 100s of games that You Never Owned and play them for a 3 month low price.
Both have their advantages and weakness, the other compensate for the other

more voice commands / Cortana
Do try not to duplicate the same feature.
PlayStation did add more voice commands, but who needs it? It's easier to navigate and it goes there faster on a controller.

TV In
You can use it, but my TV already has a lot of HDMI ports. I guess you get an extra HDMI In slot.

Snap
Is that supposed to be Xbox answer to Share button? Cuz Share is better on PS4.

Change Gamertag
A feature begged by PS fans but has not arrived yet. But I wouldn't change mines.

Unlimited Cloud Saves
Remember PlayStation started Cloud Saves.
I have plenty and you can store your save files on a USB/HDD.

Achievement tracker
Trophy is the same.

DVR
Mostly incompatible with most Cable providers.
My Cable has a DVR with pre-programmed channels that shares content with other boxes.
On top of that. PlayStation Vue - Unlimited Cloud DVR and easy on-demand of all your favorite shows. Everything is getting streamed now.

Remixx116 has some of the PS features, not all of them.

PC/PS4 crossplay(ish) = War Thunder

DragonKnight3804d ago

@Rookie: None of the games you say. Funny because I didn't mention only 2 games now did I? Cross buy is a nothing feature. Oh look, I can buy my Xbox One game on my PC AWESOME! Why can't you buy it on the console? Anyway, you haven't provided any proof that these are features that can't be done on PS4, since cross-play already exists as does cross buy between PS4 and Vita, you just don't like the fact that it's between a console and a handheld instead of a console and PC. By your logic, I can easily say that MS aren't able to do cross-buy and cross-play because they don't have a handheld.

@TheCommentator: Explain how the PS4 literally CAN'T do those things. By that I mean provide technical reasons that outright prohibit the PS4 from implementing any of those features. Remember, this is about things that the PS4 can't do, not things that it's currently not doing.

Iceman X3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@TheCommentator

Sony was 1st with Final Fanatsy 11 cross play with PS2/Ps3/PC Xbox 360 did get it after 3 years. This was done wayyyy before Shadowrun. Also all Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Orochi Warriors, Toukiden and so so many more are cross play with PS3/PS4/Vita. Warthunder Crossplay with PS4/PC/Mac.

TheCommentator3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@r2oB

It's streaming UP TO 1080p/60, with HEVC. Did I really have to spell it out for you? FYI, I'll be doing just that with Halo 5, Forza 6, and Gears, amongst others. How's your badly compressed, 540p remote play working out for you anyways? Truthfully, even if the game I stream is only 720/30, it still streams at its native resolution, which is something sony not only can't do, but won't LET you do without buying an otherwise useless Vita to do it with.

@dragonknight

You prove that it can. Unless Sony announces such advancements are possible it is already proven that it currently cannot. Meaning it can't.

@iceman

Good call, I totally forgot about that. Off topic, I'm surprised SE still makes games for Sony after the way they got treated with the PS2 HDD fiasco.

DragonKnight3804d ago

@TheCommentator: "You prove that it can. Unless Sony announces such advancements are possible it is already proven that it currently cannot. Meaning it can't."

Literally the worst reasoning ever.

donthate3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

I think this struck a lot of nerves with some fangirls.

I don't care if it is "possible" or not, but I do care about who is doing, and who is not.

So I am looking forward to on Xbox One:

* more BC games
* Crackdown 3 with cloud powered physics and destruction!
* great exclusives like ScaleBound, ReCore, Gears 4, Halo 5, Quantum Break, Halo Wars 2 and etc.
* Windows 10 integration
* new dashboard
* monthly features
* free Xbox 360 games that are BC on Xbox One on Games with Gold
* super stable Xbox Live online gaming
* Low latency, high performing dedicated servers on games with Azure (see how awesome and stable the game is on Titanfall, Forza and etc).

I personally do not enjoy "possible", but I only enjoy is and will be!....

AngelicIceDiamond3804d ago

His argument in my opinion should of been BC, DX12 and cloud gaming.

For the sake of how X1 is different from other consoles. Not saying those things make it better.

BG115793804d ago

Funny thing, there was this demo where 4 players, each player with a Morpheus, all connected to one PS4, were playing a game all together...
That is very cool. It's amazing how this isn't getting any attention.
Is this off topic? Are we talking about stuff that a console can do that the other can't? I haven't seen any of this on other consoles...

BlackTar1873804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@bg11579

If that feature was on xbox one you'd see an article about it every 30 mins from now until forever.

x_RadicalAura_x3804d ago

Tosh. Hehe I enjoy your vocabulary here, Nicholas Cage.

r2oB3804d ago

@ the commentator

So you are going to be streaming those games from your Xbox one to your PC or laptop WITHIN THE SAME HOUSE. Why not just play them on the TV your Xbox One is connected to?

Personally, playing a game at 1080p in the house I can already play the game at 1080p isn't as nice as being able to play a game at 1080p at the house and 540p/720p/1080i (between Vita and Pstv) away from the house.

BTW, how are you surprised Square still makes games for Sony platforms? That's where most of their profits come from, just like every other publishers that says the majority of their profits comes from PS4 versions of their games.

Clarence3804d ago

Thank you sir. Article is complete bias bs. How does the author know Sony is complacent. Sony is known for being the games.

freshslicepizza3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

dk,
"Some of those things aren't being done on PS4, but do explain why they CAN'T be done on the PS4"

apple is another company that can do this because apple, much like microsoft, is involved with operating systems and sells hardware along with their own software. that way they can control how their product works. sony has to work with valve's steam and/or google's android system in order to get cross play to work. sony does not have that type of infrastructure in place where they can have all of your playstation network features work like microsoft is doing with windows and xbox.

that is what he meant by that.

ThanatosDMC3803d ago

War Thunder launched with cross play for pc/ps4, so did warframe iirc.

@moldy, an app is all Sony would need to do it if they wanted to, doesn't have to be built into the o.s. Sony could partner with steam (wouldn't be the first time) to break into the pc space if it ever became a threat... But as of now it isn't.

Also, krypt, Sony is a Japanese company. Nice try, but epic troll fail.

BattleAxe3803d ago

Judging from the disagrees, Xbox just can't catch a break on this site, no matter how great they are doing with exclusive games and exclusive features.

WowSoChill3803d ago

Can PS4 even do friend notifications yet? or no? lots of basic stuff Sony doesn't have, name changes on PSN? external harddrive support?

never mind what Microsoft is doing, sony needs to get the basics down

XBLSkull3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

It's been obvious since day 1 Xbox One was built for the future and you can watch it improve upon itself monthly. PS4 was built with the idea of maintaining the status quo of last generation. I fired up my PS4 last night cause I finally got my games queue manageable and finally getting back to playing Bloodborne (damn good game, gonna get back to it after this post) and found that the system is largely unchanged from when I got it 18 months ago. The media player app is finally here which I'm grateful for, but nothing else new. The saddest part was downloading 500MB of updates I needed to play, that literally took an hour to download - something that happens in just over a minute on both my PC and my Xbox. To people who claim that PSN is anywhere close to XBL in terms of network... you are so, so wrong. Also downloaded the free edition of driveclub, which took several hours to download, and I'm sorry, that game looks no better than Forza Horizon 2.

LOL! REALLY?? wasn't Sony like a decade ahead with the video games (1st being Nintendo)?? Please google when did playstation 1 release and when did xbox release. Also before you comment please be informed, Sony is a Japenese company not a Chinese company. This is a competitive market and everyone will try to bring in features or match their competitor products. MS does it, Sony does it. So stop whining here...

its_JEFF3803d ago

Here's the deal, Latst year is playing out much like this year: Sony had a steady amount of releases brought the year, front loaded from what I remember, then seemed to have a lot less at the end of the year. MS had a lot of releases at the end of the year but a lot less at the beginning and middle. Seems like their strategies a complete opposite or so it seems... short-term memory much? One company is focused on loading the holiday season the other is focused on spreading out what they have. And yes, I was disappointed in Sonys offerings in the holiday season, it just wasn't as packed as the Ms holiday, but there was almost always a new game for me to play through out the year.

Milkshake3803d ago

@TheGreatGamer

Sure, why not.

"When one platform is "losing" gamers as a whole" - You're using quotation marks to show sarcasm.

"and owners of the "losing" platform in particular win big." - See above. Win what exactly?

"Just look how complacent Sony is since they're ahead." - How diligent of you to make hyperbolic sweeping statements in regards to Sony. Could you elaborate their complacency or should we imagine that as well?

"This is why I own both both consoles and hope both continue to sell well because it fuels competition." - Are you sure? It certainly doesn't seem as if you do. I mean your submissions and comments paint a very bias picture.

Do you believe you're neutral person? Your past 15 submissions are made up of 13 pro Xbox article and 2 opposed to Sony.

CartBlanche3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

@XBLSkull The "updates take ages" argument is so flawed it is beyond belief that any thinking individual would actually use it.
Here is something that happened to me 2 days ago. I turned on by Xbox One and it had a 2GB download that took an hour to download. Poor me!!

FACT: If you don't touch your console, regardless of X1 or PS4, for a while, the next time you turn it on, it will have lots of updates, for either games, the OS and anything else in between. If you constantly use a console, you will naturally keep the updates incrementally happening, so you never notice the "big" update, like you do when you turn on a console you haven't powered on for a month or more and all the pending updates are backed up waiting for you.

So in future please use some deductive reasoning before posting. That goes for everyone else too ;)

Xbox pr team can spin things all day but they can never spin the fact that ps4 is way more powerful than the xbox one. Every game that is on multiple platform( ps4, xbox one) looks better and performs better on ps4.

He spoke about having several exclusive titles coming out this holiday season but sony has been releasing exclusives all year long.

remixx1163804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Ughh Cindy my dawg, my homie, my girl I'm primarily a PlayStation guy but at the end of the day there's more to video games than hard ware, that's why I even play vita and 3ds Gamez.

......they are the weakest forms of gaming hardware but I love their games and that is what this entire gaming thing is about.

I don't buy these systems for crossbuy or share play, snap t.v., remote play, kinect, touch pads or any of that other crap, I buy them for gaming strictly, if we're basing a platforms quality off of things that aren't games or at least heavily influence the gaming portion then we're doing it wrong.

Also ps4 , 3 and vita have been doing crossplay and cross buy for years, its not really new.

Who would have thought it, eh? The best game console being bought by gamers, crazy world. That useless MS bullshit and PR crap just reinforces my confidence in my PS4 purchase. Most importantly to me its the best console for MGSV.

AngelicIceDiamond3804d ago

"ps4 is way more powerful than the xbox one." Pixel power is everything to some ppl I guess, sad but true.

Yukonsbud3804d ago

If you call a few more pieces of grass more powerful then ok. I'll take the frame rates.

dantesparda3804d ago

You do realize that the PS4 version also has the better framerate (in GTA5), right? So you get neither. And most games not only have a higher res but also the higher framerate on PS4.

freshslicepizza3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

why is it so hard for some people to give microsoft credit for improving the xbox one? many asked they focus on their own ip's. they are. many have asked they drop and stop focusing on kinect. they have. many have made remarks about how much more powerful the ps4 and in the meantime the xbox one has gotten better performance and has closed some of the gap but to offset the ps4 being more powerful the xbox one is also $50 cheaper. some also talk about how microsoft dumps all their eggs into one basket and release everything in one quarter. that is no longer the case for next year. quantum break is coming in spring, scalebound in summer for example. the ui has gotten better and faster as well. microsoft is also giving what consumers most wanted, backwards compatibility. does sony ever mention what the number one request is on the ps4?

yet here we are with the same attitudes

This crap about "Sony is complacent" is really starting to get old. There is ZERO factual evidence that Sony isn't trying hard. No product EVER at the top of it's market had a lazy company behind it. The very idea is childish

Death3804d ago

They aren't complacent, they are cash strapped. We are seeing the effects of the last decade where Sony was bleeding money. It will take time for them to get back to where they were as far as software releases go. Sony is now starting to turn a profit and they need to pay off debt. Once this happens they can start to invest like they did in the past. This is why we see so much emphasis on indie and third party content this gen.

remixx1163804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Yeah but let them think that lol, the upcoming events will like crush allthe logical discussions agagainst ps4 and only fanboys will be left flinging hate and baseless rhetoric to attack Sony.

Hell FFVII, the last guardian, street fighter 5, uncharted 4 and horizon were all I needed but of course Sony just keeps it coming.

BlackTar1873804d ago

LOL @ Death if what you say is true WTF is happening with MS?

Sony has more games has more conferences to show games add gaming features like Shareplay and remote play. If sony is cash strapped an we're getting all this then Xbox needs to step it up since they obviously have enough money to buy everything.

Spectre_StatusN73804d ago

@Death

"This is why we see so much emphasis on indie and third party content this gen."

The bigger emphesis on indie has nothing to to with Sony themselves. The indie scene in general is on the rise and keeps growing. It is getting easier and easier for indie devs to make and publish their own games. As for Sony's third party deals, they also cost money. Third party deals aren't free and given the fact that Sony has Call of Duty which is probably the most expensive third party deal possible, Sony is investing a lot in PlayStation. I agree Sony as a whole still needs work but the PlayStation division is heavily invested in because of it's success.

WillyC0093804d ago

@Death....that was the most comical thing I read this morning. Thanks for the good laugh bud! Couldn't be any further from the truth. But feel free to keep thinking that hahaha!

Spotie3804d ago

That makes no damn sense, Death... not that I should have expected it to.

Don't all those third party deals cost money? More money than developing and owning their own product? Why, then, would a cash-strapped Sony be spending money in that way?

And why would they STILL be going toe-to-toe with Microsoft in the exclusive department if Microsoft has so much more money? I know you Xbox fans like to discount them, but hasn't Sony fielded more exclusives this year than Microsoft already? Aren't they just about even for the generation?

You didn't make a case for anything, except your own ignorance and willingness to see the worst in whatever's going on with Sony.

Death3804d ago

Third party deals do indeed cost money. Sony is now making the money needed to secure third party deals which they need to supplement their releases. It's amazing how many people want to deny the fact Sony is second to none as far as first party content is concerned. This gen it has been debatable who has the better first party line up. Since when has Microsoft even competed with Sony on this level? If you want to continue to stick your head in the sand and believe Sony is cranking out games just like they have in the past, that's fine by me. It's far from true, but if you feel better that's awesome. Personally I am waiting for the games to roll out. I have absolutely no doubt this will happen, it's just taking longer than usual for Sony this gen.

JasonKCK3804d ago

"No product EVER at the top of it's market had a lazy company behind it."

Absolute BS

dcbronco3804d ago

Sometimes when you see someone post "Why is this gaming news" you hope like hell it's because they only want gaming news right now. Unfortunately too many people on this site might actually only read gaming news. For those who that actually applies to, read other stuff. Stuff like, the business section. Annual reports. Sony had a very good last quarter and Kaz has done a great job trimming the poorly performing parts of the company. I believe they made over 700 million in profit. That's extremely good for Sony in a first quarter.

But Death was right about the last decade where they lost seven or eight times that. Sony's own CEO stated they lose on six of ten exclusives. Kaz is not a moron so doesn't common sense lead you to believe cutting back on some of the exclusives makes sense for Sony right now.

As much as gamers love the idea of "I don't care about sales I just want great games" the reality is it's a business and all companies cut back based on the current and near future of their business. Gaming is very strong for Sony right now, but Sony is more than a gaming company.

2016 is a better year for them on exclusives. We'll have to wait and see after that. We also know Microsoft set aside a billion dollars for games alone and a billion for Xbox TV. They aren't buying much early DLC anymore so you have to expect they plan to compete on exclusives.

As an owner of both systems, it was just an observation but I understand not all will see it the same way

Death3804d ago

raWfodog3804d ago

@TheGreatGamer

Maybe I simply look at each individual product differently. I do not own an XB1 yet but speaking as an owner of both PS3 and XB360, I recognized that each console both had their strengths and weaknesses but really all I cared about was playing the great games that both systems had to offer. I see that other people like to compare the features of each console to the other but it really didn't matter to me which one had the better UI or which came with the better BC options cause I just played the games. The only updates I cared about was the updates that improved gameplay, not my time on the home screen. I know not everyone is like me but I never really cared for comparing Sony to MS. Whoever had the game that I wanted to play then that would be the system that I would be playing it on, regardless of all the little extra features. Case in point, PS4 has Shareplay but I have not used it and have no plans on using it. Maybe my kids will get some use out of it.

@Death
You seem to think that an indie title can never be as fun as a AAA title and you aren't wrong to have your opinion but, personally speaking, I enjoy many of them and generally have more time for them since I don't get to play as much as I'd like. Even though I love exploring the vast gameworlds of some AAA titles, its still fun playing some of the quirky and highly imaginative games from indie developers. Bottom line, a good game is a good game regardless of its budget or how many people worked on it.

Death3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@Oreo,

I do not use Shareplay on my PS4. Giving remote access to my console sounds like a bad idea. I still feel for the kid that lost all of his characters and equipment in Destiny. I have no problem buying my own games to play unrestricted with my friends. If you actually use it and enjoy it that's great.

As for the last exclusive on Xbox One, it was indeed Rare Replay. Why is it you are choosing to ignore one of the best console collections to come out this gen? I've also been playing Fable even though it hasn't officially released. Not to mention quite a few games from the backwards compatibility update. I've also been using remote access to my Surface and Windows 10 PC which I like much more than remote play to the Vita from my PS4 which isn't ideal in screen size/format or button layout for many games.

As for Spotify, Sony uses Spotify. Microsoft uses Pandora. It works on my Xbox, PC, tablet and smart phone just like Spotify. I use both free music services, but listen to Pandora more. It really depends on my mood and if I want to listen to a mix of artists or full album.

@Blacktar,

I'm not a fan of indie shovelware. The fact that Sony has more isn't appealing to me. I'm glad you like them and happy you aren't one of the legion that talk about how powerful the PS4 is and then brag about all the games that it has that can run on a decent smart phone.

@Raw,

Quite a few people like indies. I have no issue with that. Many of the games are similar to retro gaming. If you never played "old" games then indies can be a blast. If you are old and played these games when they were new, the charm isn't quite there like it is if you are new to them. My phone is cluttered with indie games. They are nice when you don't have the time to sit in front of your console and TV. When I do have the time to game on my console it isn't with an indie title.

triple_c3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

@TheGreatGamer

"Yes I was talking about games because it seems like we're having to wait ages for a lot of ps4 games"

Mr. Kudo, did you know that PS4 owners already play games with PC gamers? Games like Rocket League, Planetside 2, FF XIV etc... and soon Street Fighter V? And also cross-play with Dust 514 via PS3-PC before. So much about thing that you do what others don't. And cross-buy already exists on PS platforms. Since PS3.

If Sony is complacent with the most conferences most exclusives most indies and most sales then what does that make ms?

callahan093804d ago

The only thing the Xbox One does that the PS4 can't do is act as an HDMI input. The rest is all pretty much stuff that the PS4 isn't doing, but not that it necessarily CAN'T do. There are lots of things the X1 does that the PS4 doesn't do, such as snapped multitasking apps, and backwards compatibility, but that doesn't mean the PS4 can't do it. Some day the PS4 might do app multitasking/snapping type stuff, but who knows. I am kind of arguing semantics here. Cross buy is a thing that Sony's done a lot with Vita and PS4/PS3 games, and they've even done it on PC with Portal 2 where the PS3 version came with a Steam unlock, although your save file doesn't transfer between the versions in that case. I don't really expect Sony to compete on PC cross-buy, but that feature really doesn't matter that much. I'm kind of mystified by that feature, to be honest... if I have a PS4 or a PC, why do I need to play a particular game on the other? I only need to play it on one platform. But I guess the feature isn't intended for me. Oh well. Xbox 1 is definitely trying some random and different things that will again shape the future of how videogame consoles are featured and built in the future, like they did with Achievements on X360. Good for Microsoft for trying some new things all the time, gotta give them credit for that!

Death3804d ago

PS4 will never do snap. That is something that the multiple OS's makes possible on the Xbox One. Crossbuy on the PS requires a Vita and in many cases it's just a Vita game that you can play on your PS4. That's pretty much the idea behind universal apps. The biggest difference being the amount of PC's, tablets and smart phones on the market vs the limited amount of Vita's. Sony's solution is more of a proprietary solution where Microsoft is going for a much broader audience. Same can be said with remote access. Sony allows a Vita to access their console remotely and isn't restricted by local networks where Microsoft is allowing any Win10 device to access and play the X1, but within your own home network.

Sony can do a lot of things, but they don't really drive the features with software. It's odd to see all the PS fans say Sony can technically do anything. It's no different than saying Microsoft could technically make a game exactly like Uncharted, they just need to hire all the people from Naughty Dog. Same is said about cloud compute. Sony could do it if they invested billions in server farms and hired the right software developers and engineers to make it work. With the right people and enough money they could do anything.

The biggest thing separating Microsoft and Sony today is Sony is happy to charge for everything and anything while Microsoft is doing everything they can to appeal to gamers. Demand is what makes this happen on both consoles. Sony has the demand and doesn't have to add value where Microsoft has less demand and has to do more to attract buyers.

solidboss073804d ago

Only thing I care about on these consoles is Metal Gear Solid V in 1080p ha ha. Oh wait, its just HD on PS4, while the Last Gen consoles are sub HD.
(DirectX 12000 or whatever, cloud processing, 480p output, yes I'm sniggering)

MasterCornholio3804d ago

OK it appears that the headline was corrected to reflect the article better.

Whoever changed it, thank you.

user99502793804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

I agree with you on some points, but you aught to leave Sony out of your ramblings. Its a sign of weakness to dwell on the competition when we know your interest in them in next to 0.

I agree with what you're saying though. Xbox gamers have benefited big time from the XB1 announcement fiasco. Support for X1 has been insanely good.

I own a PS4, but TBH nothing Sony has done or seems to be doing seems particularly interesting to me. However, Microsoft is just hitting absolutely every note perfectly. Impossible to complain at this point without sounding like a cynical dunce.

TwoForce3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

What are you ? Way too defensive about Microsoft. Seriously, you love Microsoft way too much. Maybe i should call you TheGreatXboxGamer. Because you don't care about the other and you don't have PS4 really. I have Xbox One and i want to show it to you, but nope. Because you won't believe me. Ok, what if Microsoft screw you big time, what would you think about it ? You won't respond because you afraid what people say to you. I'm Playstation fans, do i think Sony are perfect ? No, they are not, but i want them to be better If Sony screw something, we playstation fans would be mad too. And also, i looked on your comment of Until Dawn, i have to say that is a biggest pathetic troll i have ever seen in my life. I'm feel disturbed about it. You need to shut up about your opinion, because you act way too much like AussieGamer. This is not trolling. This is how i feel your BS.

Spotie3804d ago

Not that it'll matter, but I've marked you for trolling.

Starting off with that flamebait headline, you move right into some BS about complacency with NO evidence to back it up. Further comments completely lie about waiting for games on PS4 while simultaneously ignoring this nearly year-long wait for games on XB1, as well as praising Microsoft's updates without acknowledging that the XB1 was behind from launch as far as system software is concerned.

It's not at all a level approach, and the fact that you do it regularly behind a veil of "I'm a multiplat gamer so I'm unbiased" just makes it look THAT much worse.

Antwan3k3804d ago

@remixx116

In response to your list of:

"PS4 to vita cross play
Share play
PS4 to vita remote play.
Controllers without batteries
Trophy tracker
Touchpad support
PS4 to vita cross buy
Use of vita as additional controller
Project Morpheus vr support
Etc etc etch"

Share Play is the only unique feature that doesn't involve a dead handheld (PS Vita), a controller feature that is barely utilized (Touchpad), total irony (the PS4 is widely known to have horrible battery life), or referencing a piece of tech that hasn't even been released (Morpheus)..

So yea, at the end of the day, Share Play is the only thing on that list worth mentioning and I agree, it's a cool feature that isn't currently available on the Xbox One..

guyman3804d ago

You forgot pause/resume which is actually a great feature, but yea keep on trying to convince yourself all those features are pointless. You're not fooling anyone with your bias.

New Sony first party titles for the rest of the year is Until Dawn, a Tearaway port from Vita and Uncharted Collection.

Are you talking third party exclusives?

MehmetAlperTR3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Yes and Yes. Why yes ? Let me tell you. There s FAcebook and Twitter share on PS4 But nothing on XB1. And let me ask you this " Where the hell is the Disc Eject button on MY Xbox One Menu ? " so i see Xbox One cant do what other consoles can do ?
Edit I have XB1 and PS4..

From the article: "There's a reason we're able to put on two shows of content together," Tsunoda continues. "We've got seven exclusives coming this holiday, and then everything coming in 2016. Not just the blockbusters, but the ID@Xbox games, the indie games. We're giving people a lot more."

Sony's response: "There's a reason we're able to put on four shows of content together," Sony continues. "We've got [however many games and unique content] coming this holiday, and then everything coming in 2016. Not just the blockbusters, but Indie Games, the Indie games. BitbyDeath3804d ago

If Sony are complacent then MS must be in a coma.
Console sales closer to Wii U than PS4;
Games in general selling poorly;
3rd parties jumping ship;
MS pushing games to PC to boost sales;
Blatantly copying the PS4 UI and labelling it Windows 10;
No big exclusives since November last year.
The list goes on...

PistolsAtDawn3804d ago

Tells truth....gets downvoted. smh.

JackStraw3804d ago

Why do people keep saying Sony is being complacent when they have 3 upcoming conferences at which to announce and/or show off new games? Makes no sense. The PS4 has one of the most diverse libraries of games I've seen on a platform in a while, especially relative to the amount of time it's been on the market.

Stop talking out of your neck, bro.

DarXyde3803d ago

@most of the comments here,

Just so the lot of you know, "can't" and "won't" are two very different things.

"Can't" implies impossibility.

"Won't" implies an explicit decision against doing something.

There's a lot that's possible on PlayStation 4 and I'm sure we're going to see it going forward.

3803d ago
JMyers3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

How exactly has Sony been complacement? Have they not released more ecxlusives so far this year? Are they still not going after great Indie titles and offering amazing PS+ games? Are they not seeking third party deals (like MS with the 360?)...? Are they not pursuing exclusive media content on PS4?

Just because MS has more over the holidays doesn't mean they have more in total or general. In fact, far from it. It's the stream of content over the year, it's keeping the console relevant without constant deals, price cuts and offers. If a console can maintain mindshare, imagine the performance when an actual price cut happens? What MS is doing may not be sustainable long term.

Cross Buy, Cross Play, Cross Save is something that has been pioneered by Sony. Kudo Tsunoda is the same guy that showed us we can look at the bottom of our shoes with Kinect...

Imagining an upper hand those not make it real, and for some reason you believe you have more exclusives.
Andrew house admiting first party line-up is sparse means exactly that, first party line up is sparse, not exclusives.
BC is the only you have over the competition, Looking at the ps4 and ps3 in a business manner, the work and the cost is greater than the return, to them its really not worth it, I also assume that its not really requested by players.

stonecold33804d ago

sammarshall1023804d ago

Backwards compatibility is huge it automatically increases the Xbox One library and options

I expect people to come in here and downplay BC but the choice of new and old games to play is great

remixx1163804d ago

Actually, I think BC is great, wiiu has had it and being able to go back and play super Mario galaxy, metroid prime collection and skyward sword really help make the console more appealing.

Though its funny to see people act like this is a brand new game changer and its even funnier to see people act like it doesn't matter at all.

If you enjoy going back and playing your old games, then yes this has relevance to you.

ShadowWolf7123802d ago

I can understand how it adds appeal to a degree, but really, I fail to see how it provides a lot of incentive for people to buy the system itself. It's a perk, not a pillar.

I mean if one really wanted to play Xbox 360 games, why should they spend $350 on the new console when they could hit up ebay or Amazon and get a 360 and all the 360 games they'd want for less? You'd need to rely on other selling points to actually sell the system.

I get that it's a cool thing and all, it really is, but people act like it's a system-seller or game changer when it's not.

showtimefolks3804d ago

Imo and I could be 110% wrong

Is that bc is looked at as a big feature but if both ps4 and Xbox one had it than it won't be as talked about

How many people really cared Sony removed it from ps3?

And you talk about big library but you have to own those games than insert disk to download

Wouldn't it be quicker to just play them on Xbox 360.

n4rc3804d ago

"How many people really cared Sony removed it from ps3? "

everyone... if you believe the internet.. lol... vocal minority can make a big impact..

i completely agree it was a relatively small number.. just a lesson on the internet not being public opionin

showtimefolks3804d ago

N4rc

You can find a 60gb ps3 for not that much.

I have a no issue with people loving the bc feature but those who like it make it seems like 13 million Xbox one owners care

n4rc3804d ago

thats what im saying... it happened then and its happening now..

not many cared about it being removed because they didnt use it... same with many not caring about it being added now since they play x1 games..

but... spend time on the net and you'd think everyone in the world feels one way when in reality its the opposite

Death3804d ago

How many people actually care about B/C? Ask Sony. They invested millions in Gaikai to make their back catalog of games accessible to as many gamers as possible. There is much more value to these games than what many want to believe. Many of their first party offerings are PS3 games that have either been ported, remastered or put into collections. To say not many are actually interested undermines what Sony is doing. The ones that say it isn't important are the ones without a free option to play their old games on their new system.

PhucSeeker3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Maybe the feature was designed to help those, who don't own an X360 but have an Xbone, play some old X360 titles ?

iceman063804d ago

@Death...you are right...but I think that Sony wants to use Playstation Now as a two pronged approach. They want to have some form of BC. But, also, they want to be able to provide Playstation games for set-top boxes, smart tv's, and probably eventually mobile devices.

Kudos Tsunoda is an important fella to Microsoft. His 'departure' to a new role within the same company demonstrates Microsoft value him enough to retain him. Does this move signify a winding down of the Xbox division before an offer to sell it to a third-party?

I can understand having ones opinion, but please, stop with the "concern" about xbox division.

back to reality,..all the best to him, sure Micro have an idea about whats the future holds for them and him

Kingdomcome2473710d ago

That's a bit of a stretch for sure. Sure he played an integral role in peripheral designs such as Kinect, Hololens, etc..., but I wouldn't say that he's integral to the Xbox brand as a whole. As someone recently pointed out to me, Panos Panay, the designer and architect of the Surface line has been named as the designer for the next generation of Xbox hardware. Microsoft as a whole has without a doubt shown their desire and blueprint for moving towards one unified ecosystem, wherein Windows will be the platform, but I believe that the Xbox brand is still a major component of that roadmap, and they've made enough moves and investments as of late that have centered around the Xbox division to show that Satya's public commitment to the Xbox division including future hardware weren't just hollow words.

Mr Pumblechook3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

@frankdrebin77 said "some would think you are trying to incite a "fanboy" war,..but not me,..I understand that you are just expressing your hopes and dreams."

Er... Overreaction much? Nobody should let an overwhelming brand loyalty prevent them from discussing the future of gaming.

Back on the subject. The gaming landscape is constantly changing. It is naive to think that everything will remain the same. Once upon a time Sega ruled the worldwide console market, now they are no longer in the business of making hardware. At the start of the 360/PS3 generation there was no such thing as iOS/Android now mobile gaming generates billions. Sony have released PlayStation Now which enables people to play PS3 games without even owning a console -who knows if this will be a dead end or become something...

Now Microsoft have a new boss, Satya Nadella. His business strategy is to take Microsoft software and make it available on as many platforms as possible. In recent interviews he doesn't talk about Xbox One as a platform, he talks about Xbox LIVE as a platform. Whether you agree with the opinion or not it is a fair and logical to speculate that Nadella might want to make Xbox platform agnostic.

Every big company in the world feels as if they have the best products in the world. What other way are they supposed to feel?

raggy-rocket3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

Before I start, I really hate making stupid lists like some people do so I thought i'd go a bit more in depth cus I'm so hyped about Xbox games right now.

Great exclusives this holiday. Glad they're spreading them all throughout next year cus I know the spacing of the game releases bothered a lot of people this year. Having a game like quantum break in April is great. I also expect inside and cuphead to be early year. Scalebound and halo wars 2, along with gears of war 4, Q4/Q3. Then we have recore, Crackdown 3, presumably another Forza and Sea of thieves (so hyped for that) early year-Q3 year. I think that's a great lineup.

That's 10 'exclusives'. I estimate 5 of those will be full exclusives, with inside being timed and Forza(?), Sea of thieves halo wars and cuphead being 'console exlusives'. Interpret that as exclusive or not as you will.

Out of those 10, 6 are new IPs (or 3 of the 5 full exclusives)
On top of all the third party games next year, that's gonna be insane.

And to top it off, we have Gears, Rare replay, Halo 5, Tomb raider(not rly exclusive), Forza 6, Fable (apparently) and the likes of fallout 4 and battlefront to top this year off

God that's gonna cost so much, but it really shows they're improving the spacing of their games and focusing on new IPs like the original Xbox did. I wouldn't be surprised if they're releasing some new IPs on PC to see if they work only to make the sequels fully exclusive if the game does well

Sorry for going on, game on!

KiwiViper853764d ago

Thats a whole lot of level headed, unbiased facts right there. No one can doubt that's an amazing line up, this year and into the next, and hopefully a pattern for Microsoft moving forward into the future.
