IM PLAYIN discuss the combat aspects of Elder Scrolls Online.
"In The Elder Scrolls Online, combat is probably one of my least loved features of the game. I still love it, mind, just not as much as other aspects of the game. My main issue with it is that it’s nowhere near as good as it was on Skyrim and Oblivion – but I’ll get to that."

Not sure what was the point of the aurthers article other than pointing out how he plays eso which was pointless. So I'll fill in the gaps. This game suffers from massive bugs some intermittent like lag and or Npc characters that disappear. Others constant as of this writing I still can't save the silvenar because the boss won't spawn. As for the mechanics of the game it wasn't until I reached veteran rank that I realized there is absolutely no reason to continue playing the quest are all rehashed versions of the original with a sprinkling of unique ones along with mundane fetch quest. Also this game refuses to let you feel powerful at all no matter the weapon or armour you have there will be bosses or areas that you simply cannot do alone. All the weapons and armour if you find any are completely worthless in veteran ranks which makes no sense. Trying to make your own is pointless because you are limited to how strong you can make them. This game is cool but it needs a lot of work it's not hard to see why they decided to go free and not charge in its current state it's not worth even buying it.
I actually like the combat, it's different than most mmorpgs...granted it is repetitive but isn't every mmorpg combat repetitive? The only difference is instead of cycling macros you fight in real time.
Either way I'm vet 2 and still enjoying it. I'm sure had I started with pc at launch I'd have hated it but I waited for console and it's polished enough to enjoy
Edit: I do agree with Grim, in that the two handed sword I got for beating the main story quest is still better than anything I've gotten from vet levels
I'm just waiting for the Elder Scrolls VI.
