Are you Hardcore?

Contrary to common belief, a Hardcore Gamer is not defined by their appearance. Being overweight is not a feature synonymous with being a gamer. However, when it comes to a Hardcore gamer, there are certain criteria that ought to be achieved before a true Hardcore status can be given.

Just when I was about to say why I hated the 'Hardcore' classification, the article did it for me. Anyone particularly interested in a form of media shouldn't bare an adjective-classification in common with intense pornography. That's weird. Moreover, it just sounds way too intense and almost degrading to the medium in my eyes. Maybe even 'Core' by itself is ok, but don't put 'hard' in there. It makes me uncomfortable.

Call me pretentious, but I'd prefer the term 'Interactive Media Buff'...That is kind of a mouthful. Meh, whatever.

Hardcore actually comes from the building industry. It's the rocks and rubble that strengthen a concrete screed.
It forms the base, the foundation on which buildings are constructed.

That's how I see the hardcore tag being relevant to gaming. Hardcore gamers form the foundations on which the industry sits.

This could just be the way I see it as I used to work on building sites though.

Ah, that kind of makes sense I guess.I was joking in the first place, but for some reason I don't like the term, but the article did actually reference porn.

I wouldn't usually bother to try and define hardcore or casual gamers, but I will say someone that plays COD 8 hours a day (or any other game) is a pretty damn hardcore gamer.

That's as far as I got through the article. I gave it the benefit of the doubt after the "Contrary to common belief, a Hardcore Gamer is not defined by their appearance" line, but not twice.

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
