Does Star Citizen Have Too Many Features ? Its Creator Replies

Star Citizen has been accused of having too many features and that those features will do it more harm than good in terms of development time and money invested. Star Citizen creator Chris Roberts responded with an announcement disagreeing since he sees this as the reason that people want to try Star Citizen in the first place.

Star Citizen is one of the biggest space universes any game have featured so many features are a must-have for this game

* By the time this game releases, there will be 10-15 other games that just blow this away.

Star Citizen has the potential to be a great game, but I don't see it happening in the way most of us thought it originally would.

* Announcing something and not getting to experience that full idea for years is just dumb for dev's to do.

* I get you announce it early because of kickstarter but still they should have been further along with the game before they did so.

I hope it's awesome, but my intuition is telling me something is "up" with this game and it won't live up to the hype.

* What if another game comes along, does the same stuff, but we get to play it sooner and when SC is released, it's just "ok" in comparison?

I'm a backer and trust me when I say that this is gonna be the best space flight/fps game ever made.

EliteGameKnight3990d ago

It's important to remember that publically funded games are just that, backed by fans. When a developer tries to get private investors, they aren't showing a fan ready build, they'll doing exactly what kickstarter does, they explain their vision and maybe show an extremely early build to drive home the point of what they're trying to accomplish. Many people look at the development times for kickstarter games with a gamer perspective, where especially now'a'days, the game is released within a year or two. Games are announced in the concept period, where things can still fall apart or be massively changed, it's just the side effect of publically funded games.

Exactly, it seems like at some point we went from backers who used to play these games 15-30 years ago when the genre still existed, and wished for these things, and so when Roberts talked about them, we were like hell yeah....

...to now somewhere along the line, people either weren't aware of this, because they got caught up in it at like the 20-30 million raised mark or whatever and missed much of that beginning explanation because at that point there was so much info and hype out there it would be an easy thing to overlook.

I for one am glad he's doing it, that's what I backed, and I'm glad he's sticking to his guns.

Yeah I've already upgraded my GPU, and odds are, will again before it finally releases, but hey, we don't need the game being rushed. Let it take a couple of years if it needs to.

I don't game pc, but my father does. He donated $500 for some custom ship and I have got to say, this game deserves all the dev time it is getting. It will be the crown jewel of pc gaming when it's official launch happens. Integration with occulus rift plus the bazillion features they have this game will test my steel in holding off buying a game pc. The struggle is real......fml I need it.

Perjoss3991d ago

By the time SC is finished people will have their own real space ships.

Grap3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

2016? i guess next year we all have ships.

Godmars2903991d ago

No one told you about the warp drive in development?

EliteGameKnight3990d ago

@godmars290

It actually is a thing, look up the Alcubierre Drive. Last I've checked NASA is experimenting with it.

Mostafeto3991d ago

By the time they implement all the features they want you mean

Perjoss3990d ago

sure I guess.

I mean they haven't even announced the RTS, point n click adventure and pinball modules yet.

Sure....since they raised close to a billion they don't even need to make a profit.

blacktiger75d ago

Well You know GTA 6 is like 2 billion dollar. So I don tknow why you trippin

jznrpg75d ago

But it’s not funded by players for over 13 years. And it will release before Star Citizen

blacktiger74d ago

what difference does it make, it's being funded while you are pissed off, money is money. Why do you have emotion?

Pergele74d ago

Did you know you are so stupid? Like it's almost funny

Azurite75d ago

The money is allocated between two games, most of it goes to Squadron 42.

peppeaccardo75d ago

Feels like when at the mall people stop you to give you free products and once you accept they won't stop to follow you until you buy the rest ..... F-DAT !

Noskypeno74d ago

What, you don't want shoe cleaner that costs more than the shoe?

raWfodog75d ago

I do wish they'd release this for PS5 Pro at the very least. I've been craving a good realistic space exploration game since Frontier Developments stopped supporting ongoing updates for Elite Dangerous on consoles. I put a ton of hours into that game and then they just stopped console support when the Odyssey update came out. Pissed me off LOL. I guess I'll get back into No Man's Sky for the time being since there's a bunch of new stuff since I've last played.

andy8574d ago

I didn't even realise you had to pay. Who on earth is paying to play a game that is still in alpha over a decade on 😂

thorstein74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

"A decade?"

This started before No Man's Sky was announced.

2011. It's been a decade and a half.

Shameless plug for NMS: you can build all of Star Citizens' ships in NMS for free. The only difference is that one of these games has launched...a decade ago. And the new update allows you toto capture creatures and battle them in an arena.

Knightofelemia74d ago

It's still a giant money sucker fools and their money are soon parted.
