Media Molecule Dreaming Up Dreams Beta Trial for PS4

Push Square: "There's still some confusion over what Dreams actually is. Media Molecule's brand new project was officially announced at E3 2015 and received a mixed response; the Guildford-based developer was intentionally vague about the title, and that's perhaps resulted in some scepticism around the web. However, it did promise that more information would be revealed at Paris Games Week later in the year – and it sounds like some kind of beta could surface during the event."

I want in, Dreams looks incredible and progressive. I love how Mm pushes the industry forward with their creative genius. I want to create art, and games.

When a game (like this or No Man's Sky) is so radically different in concept that it leaves people scratching their heads, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be good, but it does mean that the people who make those games are being given the freedom by the people who make those game systems to take chances and do something completely new, rather than just sticking to tried and true genres. This is one area Sony has always excelled at, finding the games that break barriers that are on other systems and getting it onto theirs, and also funding their own genre-defining projects. Taking risks.

I agree the reveal was incredible.
'mixed response? scepticism around the web?' pushquare must have dreamed that up IMO.
Unless 'around the web' means their own website I can imagine the like(...)

Rimeskeem3974d ago

"players can repurpose and remix practically anything that they can imagine"

"that polar bear that you saw in the trailer was a model created for one Media Molecule employee's daughter. It was then "borrowed" by another staffer and incorporated into a snowboarding game. Everything created can be shared, remixed, and repurposed"

*starts drooling*

Sora_19943974d ago

Holy crap man!! Its like lbp but on steroids the possibilitys will be insane! Im hyped these guys are so creative

Rimeskeem3974d ago (Edited 3974d ago )

I really want to see levels they create just to get a glimpse of what can be created

I can already see a Crash and Spyro being created

Didn't mean to disagree with you, sorry

Sora_19943974d ago

No worries but yea im excited if look at the bubbles at the end you can a couple of games looks very intresting

uth113974d ago

So I could take those same Polar Bears and turn them into a "Flying Robotic Polar Bears From Hell invade Manhattan" game?

Rimeskeem3974d ago

I believe that is possible if you have the time and talent

Germany73974d ago

The concept looks amazing and innovative, just like any game from Media Molecule, i hope for more information in Paris.
Wild could appear too.

ArnoDorian3974d ago

Anything i can want :D
That does mean i can recreate PonyVille :D and have My Little Pony Fantasy on my PS4.
Besides I find My Little Pony adorable

kevnb3974d ago (Edited 3974d ago )

I want to try the beta because I really couldn't understand what it would be like playing the game just by watching the e3 demo.

lol
its a fangame.

but nice either way

I don’t see this single level as a fan made but as a demo pitch from the studio to revive the franchise with a new game and to measure the want of PlayStation for a full game

Michiel1989171d ago

and they're gaging that by making a level in a dead game?

fr0sty171d ago

It's a great engine to quickly prototype and publicly test a game concept. Honestly, had they approached the business model differently, Dreams could have been very successful... They could have made their money from the creators, not just off game sales, if they'd made a system that lets you pay a fee to export your games/levels so that they are playable on any PlayStation even if you don't have Dreams installed. That would have opened up an additional revenue stream that would have made the game profitable. Charge an export fee, then take a cut of each sale for the games created... it gives financial incentive for developers to invest serious time into making games in that engine, which increases the quality of the projects made within it. Dreams was just ahead of its time.

That's happening when you’ve got a great IP but no clue how to use it, while others are yelling at you to get to work on them.

Babadook7171d ago

Nice. This put a smile on my face. Good job to the Dreams developer.

Abnor_Mal171d ago

I always said that Dreams should have released on every PC/console capable of handling its graphical prowess, not like it was so much of a powerhouse anyways. It should have also had PSVR2 compatibility.

It’s a shame the game was put out to pastures so early in its life.

Babadook7171d ago

Yup. Should be on psvr2.

Miraak82 171d ago

It should have had kb/m support and no mp implementation was a mistake ..... I miss lbp , they should have just stuck with that franchise . If they didn't kill the servers it would still be installed on my ps , it was a game of endless fun

gaffyh171d ago

That's actually super impressive

Knightofelemia171d ago (Edited 171d ago )

Banjo Kazooie isn't the only franchise Microsoft is sitting on and doing nothing.

Miraak82 171d ago

Same can be said for Sony also , a couple years after the ps4 launched and after the success of TLoU they basically abandoned everything except for GoW, GT, R&C and MLB .. such a shame . Was never a XB or MS person but knowing all the franchises Sony will never touch again stings a lot

This just makes me want an official Courage game.

Such a shame media Molecule and sony didnt know what to do with this game. Now would be a perfect time to release it multiplat like helldivers 2. It needs a large community.

Dreams had potential but it really needed to get off of the PS4. It released so late in the gen when everyone was already wanting to move on to next gen systems. It should have come to PC, and a native PS5 version should have definitely released.

I bought it Day 1 but the 'campaign' was pretentious and just didn't work for me. I had no intention of making content so was left to fumble through the user created content. Some good stuff, with the pig detective being the most memorable. However, just moved on to other stuff, and despite owning VR, never once played in VR either.

Knushwood Butt476d ago

Media Molecule always seem to be too ahead of the curve to have a big hit. Hopefully whatever they are working on now finds a big audience.

YoungKingDoran476d ago

For whatever reason/s they somehow dropped the ball hard with Dreams, our loss

Lionsguard476d ago

Dreams was fantastic, especially when VR was added. The things people managed to build was incredible. Some of the best VR experiences are still from Dreams experiences. The huge crux for it was being on consoles however and it was missing one thing that they didn't have back then and that we have now..... A.I.. With the advent of AI today, if they could have had Dreams running on PC and somehow got AI to work where we just typed in a prompt and it did things, it would have been a massive game changer, it could have just made the AI "Dream" and create its own things. It could have solved their problem of somehow getting one dream to just change into another one seamlessly. I really think Dreams deserves a second chance.

Rancegamerx475d ago

It was an awesome idea but even with tools that were supposed to make it easier to make a game, it was still so hard and convoluted. It tried to do to much at once. It would have been better to separate everything into easier parts, build the world, then the character's, then the music, etc. Not everything all at once. Some people understood it but most were overwelmed or confused.
