Since when aren't achievements tiered? You get different scores for different achievements don't you?

I didn't like they way it sounded as I was reading him describe it but when I seen his example gamercard I liked it.

The only issue I can think of at the moment is sometimes I play a game I don't want to continue or friends bring them round for me to try and I get an achievement I wasn't trying to get and have a few low scores on some games. This could lead to a number of bronze i shouldn't really have and makes me look like a poorer player.

The good thing about his system is it's retroactive.
The dashboard could work it out on older gamescores you already have as it just needs to look at your score and add the medal.

None of the devs having to add trophies themselves problem sony fans have.

Achievements are better because they are in EVERY 360 game, and they started tha whole idea.

Now each system has its best thing...... that others are copying, but tha original will have best, heres why..

360 achievements, and PSN Trophies... trophies are only in a few titles right now, because its been a add-on after watching 360's great idea. Like I said, 360 theyre in every game, its mandatory! PS3, not in every game, and Sony isnt making it mandatory.... so tha idea is a big fail!

360 Avatars, and Nintendo Miis..... yeah, this is a fail on 360. Unless they can take these avatars, and make them your in-game character.... and form parade's like Wii, and all that other g4y crap.

360+PS3 Motion Controller, vs. Wii.... Another stupid idea, just like tha achievements vs. trophies.... Wii has had this feature from day one, so every game has been built around it. Now bring this feature to 2 systems that havent been built around motion sensor controllers, and its a fail. We have games that never had required motion controller, so if they bring them out, then were not gonna be forced to use them.. get my drift?

Now I myself like acheivements better than trophies. Tha higher gamerscore just is more competetive to me than a leveling system and a little bar filling up. Having a friend have 100 more GS than me just makes me want to earn that extra achievement, stay up a little later to finish off that boss on HARD, instead of easy.

Theyre both good, but yeah, achievements definately have it this gen, and possibly next. Nice try tho Sony.

Everything I see so far is being copied from PS3.

XBL Medals copied Trophies.
XBL new dashboard copied from XMB
XB HDMI, Wireless WiFi, even they were thinking of copying Blu Ray.

There is no creativity at Microsoft.

One reason that the new proposed system will fail is because achievements are not necessarily used to show progress through a game.....therefore it will not be able to tell what percentage of a game is complete. For example, getting MVP in Halo 3.......or playing a song perfectly in Guitar Hero. And as somebody mentioned, the fact that there are games that do not include trophies...as well as the fact that it is not a requirement.....it prevents the system from being able to be better at this time. Then for gamers like me......I have garnered no excitement for the trophies..I have not even explored it on the xmb.

Ohh yeah, look at sports like baseball where you have the 3000 club.you do not need medals, but you are recognized as part of the club based on your number.

And finally, to end this long rant.....Microsoft can up the significance of achievements by saying that your gamer score puts you in a certain bracket....which that bracket opens up certain items for your avatar. Just like in real life, the amount of money you have can be shown through dress....the amount of points can be shown through how decked out yoru avatar is.

PSN award system isnt even a month old!

360 award system is over 5 years old!

All you need to know is that MS responded to what Sony has done with these medals and they KNOW for a fact that gamers want to level up more then they care about a gamerscore!

Now you might feel like me. Gamerscore and leveling up are the same thing in my mind. I myself fully expect every PS3 title from here on 4ward to have the award system in the game!

In 5 years EVERY PS3 game will have these awards and all these silly fukrs saying "WE HAVE EVERY GAME" will maybe grow up and learn what patience is all about!

This whole debate is dumb and exactly what I've come to expect from from N4G. Lets debate some other dumb comparisons...

1. The PS3 is better than the 360 because its larger and obviously has better parts in it because of that.

2. The 360 is better than the PS3 because its DVD tray pops out while you have to push the PS3 disc into a mysterious hole.

The over simplified trophy system is just an easy way to say "we have that too". In no way is it better than acheivements. What a stupid post.

im a grown adult gamer like most ppl that own a PS3! Im not one that cares about leveling up dude! PPL say we have 600 games with achievements but in all truth i havent played 600 games in the last 10 years! I dont buy everything and i will never buy a game just because it has awards!

If i was to guess i have played 30-40 games since Socom 3! Thats about 3 years?!?!?

The only game i have bought in the last year over hype was Bad Company! I thought the story would be funny! Well the story is lame..online is fun but COD and Warhawk are still better!

is give people free xbox live for getting achievement points. Like 2 months for every thousand. This way people really want to buy games.

let them work as a dual function, let us use achievement points to buy items from the market place, then have a two tiered system of:
Current achievements - points that can be spent
cumulative achievements - that display your total achievement score, including your current achievements and those you've spent already.

What "criticism" has MS achievements fallen under? Droid/PS3 fan criticism maybe, I mean with that one game with trophies and 2 more on the way, they are reaching a new high.

Like many other posters have said, trophies are the better idea, but aren't even close to be implemented as well as achievements. When Sony forces them for every game, they will be better. But right now achievements have the upper hand.

No ones barely buying it anymore so Gamer71 if you think XBox 360 has creativity then prove it achievements have been around way before the XBox 360 had it have you heard of pacman that has gamers cores? every arcade games had that and you call copying miis creativity you would have to be dumb to think they have creativity since when did they create?

and when Sony puts there own system of rewards they actually make it much different then there competitors and Stryfeno leveling up is not exactly like a score Sony wanted to make you feel like its a RPG more special then some dumb numbers but gave a percentage but of course it takes longer.

at first when i got my 360 i was uninformed, i THOUGHT the points, gained from achievments where used to buy things off XBL and thats why microsoft where charging from everything from trailers to themes and so on, sadly not.

I like the idea of trophies, but they have got to be implemented in more games. I'm sure future games will support them.

Please don't replace the unique "badges" you get with ultra generic trophy icons. Achievements are so far ahead of trophies they shouldn't even be compared at this point. I would be p!ssed if I was a PS3 owner and I bought all kinds of games the first 2 years on the market and none of them have trophies or contribute to my "level".

when ever sony makes something MS has to copy. even though sony copied they at least made it a little different. I new MS copys everything but i didn't know they were this bad. i think MS stands for MimicSoft.

I own both systems. And I can say without a doubt that Achievements from Xbox are the best. And they don't need to be changed whatsoever. I agree with the dude that says that xbox 360 achievements are already trophies in a way with the picture icon. Achievements are perfect. Now with Sony, only one word comes to mind. Pathedic. The trophies look horrible. And Sony doesn't gurantee that all future games will include trophies. Soul Caliber 4 anyone??? And what about past games like Resistance and Motorstorm. I'm glad to see Warhawk will be adding them, but I'm very dissapointed that I won't be rewarded for beating and play Resistance and other games. The trophies are a welcome add-on especially since the PSN is free. But they have a lot of work to do to match to xbox live. I love going on XBox.com and checking all my achievements and my friends also. And its a rather smooth and quick way to view it. The PSN trophies you can't view it yet through the internet. and viewing it through ur PS3 kind of sux.

Achievements are better but that doesnt mean trophies suk, (only when compared to achievements). The trophy system has a lot of work ahead of it. For those ignorant people trophy icons can be different graphical icons depending in the developer. It sad u have to compare the 2 because honestly MS has it right, and Sony is walkin down that road. The winner in the future can be either one. Nothing is written in stone.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
