Why should Sony care? Doesnt seem to imapct their sales, nobody seems to be bothered by it, and everytime it goes down PS4 fanboysd defend it. Things only change when people actually want change, and so far our wallets havent showed that.

It's an issue of balance and communication. It's not a terrible thing for it to go down if it's not often, doesn't stay down long, and we are aptly communicated with about the downtime.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter at all. That said, it is an issue when you pay for something and it doesn't work, be it game or service. How much is subjective.

The problem lies that if it goes down for too long will I still be able to play my single player games if I am not logged in? I know there is not a 24hr mandatory check but back during the boxing day outage I couldnt play games like second son or da:I. It just kept hanging up at the starting screens trying to connect to something and wouldn't load.
I did not try to disconnect from the net completely though.

The thing is not everyone has a ton of different games to fall back on if their favorite game is taken offline when these services go tits up...this applies to XBL as well. So yes, it is a concern that many rightfully should and do sound off around. Its even more of a concern as we see more and more of the digital game versions actually having some levels of DRM embedded that cause issues when the services go offline.

Does it matter? Now that we pay for online....yes. of course this stuff happens but it's been down more often now than all of last gen combined (not counting the breach).

Well I guess I am lucky that my gaming patterns have perfectly aligned with PSN's uptime because I cannot remember the last time I was affected by a PSN outage.

Does it matter? Absolutely it matters ...but some people should get out more. Can't rely on Servers to enrich your life forever! lol Jokes. Just havin' some fun, it can get pretty heavy on here. Let's think proactively rather than point at each other. It's the service providers fault, and (kinda) ours for putting up with it.

Yes we know no online system is perfect. We get it. Stop recycling the same old statement over & over. The difference is we all use many different online services everyday & not one single person can name one service that goes down as frequently as PSN!

No one expects perfection but we are paying a premium so it should be kept to a minimum & it's not.

All you need is split screen no need for online at all lol.

Sony has more than enough time to perfect their online service, this defense and excuse of Sony is new to this just doesn't fly anymore.

Short answer: it absolutely does matter.

To say it doesn't or to attempt to say that because it happens to others as much or more is not what we deserve as customers.

We deserve the best service we can get. With online activities becoming more and more prevalent, these issues get harder. But we're also having people forced to pay for PS+ just for online play, and that's at least 10 million PS4 users the last time Sony mentioned it.

Let's make sure they use that money to provide a service that is at least stable, if not improving in quality as it relates to features.

I can't believe the complacency on this stuff.

First, banks and credit card companies keep their networks up almost all the time. I think in the last decade I've had maybe twice where I have gone to a store and not been able to use my credit or debit cards. These gaming networks should be just as reliable.

Second, we pay for these networks. I have a busy life with a job and family. When I sit down and can actually game I need these networks to work otherwise it sours the experience. There is nothing worse then when I get a one hour window to play games and I find out the network is down and can't play. I feel like taking whatever console isn't working and hammering it into the ground 6 feet.

Gamers seem to have become very complacent about these issues. Personally, I don't care which network it is, if I am paying for it, I want it to work.

Well there's the propaganda campaign that says its down a lot, and then there is the reality of which it is not. In fact I haven't had any issue with PSN since the big outage years ago with PS3 that everyone still moans about even though it was ages ago. Maybe if all you did was sit around playing games all day the occasional down time might be a slight issue but I guess having a job and a life as I do I dont really notice it, perhaps if the complainers had the same it wouldn't be such a major issue for them either.

Just call it PlayStation Online, pay your subscription and you get everything. All this gold, silver and bronze membership or whatever is nonsense. Same situation with Nintendo, pay your money and you get the lot. If Nintendo charged £19.99 or £24.99 for the lot, a lot more people would pay it. When you consider Nintendo tried Switch 2 games for £75 and failed, the cost of games these days, this online malarky should be free when PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X games are pushing £70+. You pay for the cost of running their online service is tosh.

They had probably wanted to do that all the way back to 2012 when they introduced the Sony Entertainment Network and the backlash forced them to keep the PSN name alive.

I knew this would happen. Now is the time for Microsoft strike back and send Sony back to only making TVs.

ANOTHER REASON DIGITAL ONLY SUCKS.

I have a sizable game collection that includes a lot hefty download files and takes a lot of time if you want to ever play a game rather than have it on tap. So, I actually have 3 PlayStation 4 consoles and PlayStation treats me like a criminal for my troubles. Why do I have 3 PS4 consoles? Because of the size of games and also functionality. My 1st Gen PS4 is for disc-based games, which is getting smaller because now I have digital backups and keep my games sealed. But, I also have a PS4 Slim which houses all my base PS4 games and VR. My PSVR hooks up to the slim for VR gaming as well. My PS4 Slim has an internal 2TB SSD and 4TB external mechanical HDD and both are beyond full. Then I have PS4 Pro that has a similar setup and is also full. My PS4 Pro has games on it that are optimized for PS4 (benefits that come from the PS Pro). Because size is so limited, this is what I have and when the Internet goes out or PSN goes down, I can't play any of my games. If I'm playing games on one room of the house on a PS4, and someone in the house wants to play on a separate PS4 at the same time, we get locked out. I pay for games, in my own house, and I'm treated like a thief. I have digital I buy and when physical media goes on sale at a low price, I then have my physical media, which remains sealed and turns into a savings account as well as throughout my gaming life, I've learned a lot about the value of games over time. The older they get, the more valuable they become.

So, yeah, I'm locked out. Can't play anything so I go to PS3 or Xbox or other consoles. What a croc

So I'm guessing if you paid premium dollars for that PS5 Pro bad boy, it is now a brick. This outage may be a good thing for gamers as it reminds everyone of the consequences of an all digital console that Sony is desperate for consumers to embrace.

I was unaffected by this because I know how to properly set up my PS5 as primary so that I don't need to be online just to use digitally purchased games. I feel bad for those with multiple PlayStation systems and since I don't have a Portal yet, I'm still not sure if access to PSN is really required after initial setup just to use a $200 remote peripheral, but I feel bad for those impacted by that as well and will just have to take everyone's word for it that Portal requires PSN.

In any case I'm vindicated again for buying physical games wherever possible. Yes, I might not be impacted because I only have one PS5 system that is cleared for true offline play, but all disc-based games I own are clear for offline play.

I am a pc gamer these days and was warning about this for a while, now that games like god of war ragnarok /horizon zero dawn remastered require a psn sign in to play single player campaign, does anyone think this was a good idea or "cmon guys you already have to login to steam so whats the issue with another login ?" , well imagine you get a "verifying licenses message after paying 60$ for your games and waiting to play until the server is back, utter madness

The first time this happened to me was the rockstar launcher for rdr2 which I purchased legitimately, was having server issues or some crap that prevented me from logging in, I became a pirate that day 4 years back and played rdr2 when the legit copy did not work for hours.
Honestly ill just admit it today lol, ive been a pirate for the last 4 years, I own an external hard drives of 20tb each which holds around 1500 cracked games, basically I own 95% of all the games I ever wanted on this 20tb external hard drive, what I additionally did is get 5 portable external drives of 4tb each, so for 20tb of external portable ssd, I have made a copy of all my games as well in case my external hard drives ever dies + much higher speeds with ssd, so have a 2nd copy of 1500 games, the rate at which I finish my games is around 75 games in 1 year, so it will take me about 20 years to finish the 1500 games I have, probably dont need to buy games for a while which I still occasionally do , this was the exact kind of scenario I did this for, absolutely no login needed, 99% of the cracked games work without any tweaking.

It sucks that people that paid for ragnarok for example will have more issues that a pirate, insanity that I will never willingly accept, straight up piracy or ideally GOG games for the win, which is one company I absolutely support , no DRM crap and you get the actual games files, even sony put their main games like god of war 2018, horizon zero dawn, days gone, uncharted collection all on GOG, and I supported them by buying each of them, clearly sony is taking a different route now with this mandatory PC login crap, im sure the future games wont come on GOG as well, just horrible decisions they have been making lately, not sure what's up.
