Battlefield should return to skill-based gameplay

MWEB GameZone writes: "Battlefield has become less and less about player skill with each game and the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront seems to continue the trend.

Here is why things have gone downhill since Battlefield: Bad Company 2."

Looks like Battlefield is following the Call of Duty trend. More about flashy looks than actual gameplay.

Sillicur4015d ago

Exactly. SW: Battlefront looks amazing on the surface, but when you see how scripted the AT-AT's walking is, no player control and a mini-game to take it down, it doesnt impress me too much :(

Ghoul4015d ago

so your not impressed because of a small detail about the scripted AT-AT ?
Currently we know literally nothing about the game exvept some teaser footage.

maybe just maybe, people wait until we know what its all about before we start rating or discussing its gameplay ?

just a thought....

"Battlefield 4 is more than two years old and there is "still a lack of balance" because there are just too many powerful, easy to use items.

BF:BC2 got it right, for example Assault players could hand out ammo and equip C4 if they wanted to. Engineer’s had rocket launchers but they weren’t lock-on; Simple roles with pure gameplay. BF:BC2 had more skill based guns."

These arguments always amused me. I feel like nudging the author and saying, "hey guy it's a freaking war simulation, remember?" Ever try telling the sides in RL to play fair? I didn't think so.

I've been playing Battlefield since the bad company days. I remain convinced that it is one of the best console based first person shooters ever devised. I say that as memories of SOCOM eerily dance in the memories of my mind.

So by this same line of thinking that the author puts forth, if one is really really good at driving tanks or fighter jets or choppers should those assets be removed from the game as well? There are always going to be people that are better than other people in a first person shooter because that's just the way things are in real life, no matter how balanced you try to make it.

I understand the old days and I love the old days because I am an older person. But to clamor for Battlefield 2, Halo Reach or Gran Turismo 3 or Killzone 2 as the only titles worth playing in a series, is not realistic. Yes those iterations showed us the "halcyonic tops" of those ip's (to some), but certainly doesn't mean it's not attainable again.

I agree to this but the knowledgeable gamers know they are already working on the new battlefield.

Each year we will be getting a new battlefield game so if hey want to return to a skill based game wait till 2018 because the first set is crap.

battlefield hardline
star wars (not bf related but shows there thought)
new battlefield going to be future bs

The last in the 3 set will no doubt be like these ones.

Battlefield hardline player count tanked fast but if the cod boys enjoy the next battlefield nothing skill based will happen.

After playing sense bf2 i am just done with this series though all first person shooters online now are the same made for casual's rushed out the door.

HanCilliers4015d ago

Can't we have both? Casual & skill-based?

plut0nash4015d ago

Who'll play the games the most? The bias should go there.

HanCilliers4015d ago

Why should there be a bias? Why not both

Sillicur4015d ago

I think its possible. The thing is, a game can be both casual and skill-based in the idea of "easy to play, difficult to master". In BFBC2 u could still play it decently, but the skill cap was just much higher in my opinion.

PurpHerbison4015d ago

I don't see why a "skill based" game would make casuals not want to play it. I mean, everybody wasn't a pro on Counter-Strike back in the day. Make a bad ass game skill based game and it will attract everybody.

plut0nash4015d ago

I'm all for new IP rather than return to the old ways. Hardline was just rubbish, though.

Sillicur4015d ago

I kinda enjoyed hardline during my review, then suddenly i just stopped playing. Felt as if i didnt have reasons / options to grow in skill as an individual player.

coreyweb4014d ago

Hardline's better than BF4 by a long shot for me.

SonZeRo4015d ago

I can't speak for BF from BC2 days but I had fun in BF2 and it started going down from there for me, maybe I'm just getting old.

Sillicur4015d ago

I never had the pleasure of playing BF2 except for against bots, but i hear great things :)

DeusEx-Machina4015d ago (Edited 4015d ago )

Battlefield should return to tactical-based gameplay, like it used to in BF2.

Not saying it has to become like ARMA, but toning down the twitch gameplay a bit and greater emphasize team-mechanics would do the series good.
