I wouldn't wanna be in that persons shoes right about now.
Have to be careful with these types of things, especially when there's no release was announced!

Crimzon3950d ago

I'd have thought that after all the trouble they would have done the decent thing and just given the full game to people as an apology, given that DriveClub was used as a selling point for PS+ so long ago. But nope, it looks like they're basically sticking with the heavily stripped-down "Trial version" or as anybody else would have called it, a demo.

Such a bizarre turn of events considering demos used to be regular occurrences for games and handed out for free, but now apparently we're ever so fortunate and lucky to get access to a demo that we've all technically paid for.

What a joke.

Redempteur3950d ago

Keep speaking/spreading the lies that the PS+ edition was the full game. You might wish , but it wasn't true 2 years ago , and it still won't be true in june 2015

Crimzon3950d ago

I didn't say that, you're lying.

If you read my comment, you'd see that right at the beginning I stated that they should have just given the full game to people as an apology. I then said that they're sticking with the "Trial version". Is English not your first language?

Kemosabe3950d ago

Entitled much? Buy the game if you really want to play it that bad. Knack isn't even free with ps+ what makes you think driveclub would? Plus there's already tons of free dlc and car packs to make up for the troubled launch.

Crimzon3950d ago

Everyone with a PS+ subscription is entitled to the PS+ version of DriveClub. Why would you even try to debate that?

Kemosabe3950d ago

No sh*t everyone should get the ps+ version. when I said entitled much you were asking them to give the game for free, hence why I said entitled much. Buy the full version if you want it badly.

Crimzon3950d ago (Edited 3950d ago )

I got the full version for free with my PS4, I ended up selling it on eBay because it wasn't very good. The reason I said that they should give everyone the game for free as an apology however is because they've been waiting so long for it and the game was used as a selling point for PS+. Seems like the decent thing to do after screwing people around for so long and taking their money.

Edit: @Aenea. Plenty of other games that people have bought have been put on PS+ for free, so why would it look any different to the people that purchased DriveClub?

Aenea3950d ago

Yeah okay, but they aren't entitled to the full version for free. They could throw in some more free tracks or cars but not the entire game. How would that look like to the people who actually bought the full version? Ever thought about that?

Spotie3950d ago

I highly doubt DriveClub's Plus version was much of a selling point for Plus in the eyes of most people. The online play and everything else that comes with Plus probably was, though.

And who, once again, is "we all?" I didn't pay for the DC demo. I paid for DC. I don't know how it is in your head, but in most of the rest of the world, there are no guarantees but death and taxes. Unforseen circumstances can put a wrench in anybody's plans, and it's extremely entitled of you- especially considering you troll Sony articles all the time- to think you or anybody DESERVES the game for free.

If you wanna say you paid for it, how much did you pay? How much of the cost of Plus went towards the trial version of DriveClub? A penny? Given all the other things that go into a Plus subscription, it can't have been much more than that.

In essence, then, you're bitching over something you paid a damn penny for, at best.

Just stop it.

Bathyj3950d ago

Actually it HASNT been used as a selling point for a long long time.

The only people who keep going on about it are those showing their fake concern. This game can be had for so cheap and its well worth the value that anyone who really wants it has got it by now.

If the PLUS version is just a demo like you say they why would anyone bother waiting for it if they were serious about this game. Theres enough good word of mouth and videos around to make a judgement on it by now surely.

Army_of_Darkness3950d ago (Edited 3950d ago )

Bathyj is spot on about the only people that are concerned about the free DriveClub version are the ones that really have no intentions on actually buying it but rather just use that as an excuse too continue downplaying the PS4...

I wanted DC for a while now and just grabbed it for under $30 digital(CAN) last week. Good racer, kinda hard, nice graphics, love the free DLC they offer, awesome weather effects and all, but I still prefer GT5 over this personally because the 60fps to me makes the driving much more smooth and easy on the eyes.
Here's hoping the sequel to DC is 1080@60fps now that it's not a rush to launch title.

Crimzon3950d ago

http://www.blogcdn.com/www....

I guess that never happened then? Strange, especially considering there's so many articles and other factual evidence scattered around the internet. It must all be part of some grand conspiracy?

Or perhaps it's actually you who's the troll, Spotie, given that I'm the one with the facts here and you're the one with a long history of petty fanboy trolling on this website.

magiciandude3950d ago (Edited 3950d ago )

@Spotie

The fact Sony promised PS+ subscribers the game is enough reason to be entitled to it. It's not rocket science...

It doesn't matter if it costs a penny or a dollar, the subscription as a whole is still 50 a year. Giving the game as promised is the least Sony can do. What's taking them nearly 3/4 of a year?

UltraNova3950d ago

Crimzon,

Dude give it a break already, Evolution studios gave us a shit load of free content and more still to come, they paid their dues and the ps plus version will be coming for sure, stop being such a drag.

InactiveUser3950d ago

DriveClub PS+ Edition was promised at E3 2013 that it would be available to PS+ members "Immediately Within The First Year".

That's the point people are making. And since it's been over that promised year, they should make it the full version, not still the stripped down originally planned version. They're already like 8 months later than the absolute latest they said it would be available.

Rookie_Monster3950d ago (Edited 3950d ago )

The DC and Sony defenders are something else. They keep defending Sony when it is apparent they lied and hoodwinked many PSN + owners into giving in a full year of PSN plus and not only was the "promised" PSN plus Driveclub is still MIA all this time, the decent thing for them to do is to include a free copy of the game to all PSN plus members as a sign of good sports and as a sign of apology. How can you people sit there are defend this BS?

Not Only That, But What Is Worst Is Since We PS Plus members have to pay to play online now, Sony added no incentive to pay subscribers by omitting MP in new releases like The Orders 1886 and remake of the Uncharted Trilogy. And time and time again, the apologists like Spotie keep defending them to the bitter end. Smh

1nsomniac3949d ago (Edited 3949d ago )

@Redempteur DriveClub PS+ Edition was very much initially proposed as the "Full game with absolutely nothing stripped out" back in the reveal. It was said live on stage. It was also later publicly stated that they would In fact be stripping it down.

Let's just choose to forget the massive up-roar this caused at the time shall we??

vikingland13950d ago

Well at least it looks like we still get the free version we were promised. Glad they cleared that up.

FallenAngel19843950d ago

This whole game has had a messy development

badz1493950d ago

Just the PS+ version. The game itself was fully playable offline and online just over 2 weeks after release and the weather is patched in in December despite people trying to portray it being worst. It was all smooth sailing thereafter with the slew of tour packs and free cars which are totally worth it if you have the season pass. I think it's easily the best value for money Seasin pass yet. L

Now the much awaited Nissans are coming and they just patched in accolades level for DLC manufacturers. They have also added compatibility for the upcoming Logitech G29 wheel with the latest update. I am already lvl 60 myself but still can't stop playing.

They marketed the game as a social experience but for me, screw that. The racing itself is what keeps me playing and the there are always a lot of people to race with online. With the level of support Sony and Evolution are giving to Driveclub, it will have long legs.

Everyone's Talking About DriveClub Again, PS4's Underappreciated Racer

In this day and age, it’s rare we experience a warm fuzzy feeling when we boot up X (formerly known as Twitter, of course).

But the past few days have been lovely: our feed is full of people talking about DriveClub again.

The discussion started when someone posted a clip of the game and its infamous rain effects. The caption reads: “Still can’t believe this is a 12 year old game.”

This was one I was hoping would have some kind of boost from the PS5. The devs locked that sucker so tight...

I play the PSVR one even though it doesn't look as good, because that one is 60fps.

fr0sty11d ago

To this day, there still hasn't been a game to pull off better rain effects.

Cacabunga11d ago

Evolution Studios.. another waste of talent

fr0sty11d ago

I interviewed them twice back in my gaming journalist days... Once at E3 2006 and again on a podcast about a year later. Really nice folks.

fr0sty10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

The guy we interviewed both times' name was Simon, I can't remember his last name, it was 20 years ago, but he was a really nice guy, and was very passionate about his job. It broke my heart when I saw Sony shuttered Evolution. I do hope they bring some of those folks back, but I remember another studio ended up hiring most of them back in those days, and they've been releasing new games since under that studio... Codemasters, maybe? I forgot which....

But the amount of talent that Sony has shut down over the years, it's disturbing. Psygnosis, Evolution, Zipper... just those three studios produced some of the most innovative games that PlayStation has ever seen... and those games need to be brought back.

Agent7510d ago

Driveclub VR was graphically tragic.

maximusprime_12d ago

If they were to release that game on the PlayStation 5, there would be absolutely no need for a remaster or a remake. The whole appeal of the original game was that it consistently exceeded people's expectations.

fr0sty11d ago

Higher rendering res and textures, higher framerate, maybe toss in some global illumination/ray tracing, but other than that, they could keep every polygon the same and it would still look absolutely incredible as a current gen title.

Reaper22_11d ago

That game has good graphics but bad AI, though.

Agent7510d ago

The AI was what I'd call aggressive, but superb to play.

Jin_Sakai12d ago

Sony should reassemble the team and make Driveclub 2. Driveclub was so ahead of its time it’s crazy.

lodossrage12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

This is what I hate about gamers sometimes

There is a segment of gaming communities that always want an old game to come back. But when the game(s) were in their prime, nobody supported them or not enough people supported them. Driveclub, Killzone, Resistance, etc all fit that profile.

I want Driveclub, Killzone, Resistence, and etc all back too. But I say that as someone that bought into, played, and own those games.

Too many people like to talk but not put up the money to support when it's needed. I even lump two of my own personal friends into that. I remember how one of them constantly said "I always wanted to play the Resistance games", yet never made an effort to buy any of them. No way that's an isolated event.

IanTH10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

There are certainly games that fit that description, but I'm not sure these are a good fit:

- Driveclub infamously launched in a truly terrible state. It had a central focus on online & social features, and those were broken for about 6+ months before people could reliably play it as intended. It was so bad that the PS Plus Edition was delayed, along with its companion app. It also released less than a year after the PS4 launch, so it had to deal with a smaller total of launch PS4 owners to sell to, and Driveclub's rough launch certainly did it no favors.
- Resistance got 3 main console entries, and one handheld title for the PSP and PS Vita. Killzone got 5 main console entries across 3 generations, and one handheld title for PSP and PS Vita. This was also the era of millions of shooters, especially of the First Person variety, & genre fatigue was getting heavier by the year. So I feel these did pretty good at 5 and 7 titles respectively, pointing to enough people showing up for at least a while.

I'm not saying people don't exist who fit that criteria for these games, but I also don't think they were the primary issue. I think after a solid break from the IPs, as well as a lessening of shooter oversaturation, these titles could find healthy audiences if they came out with new entries at this point.

Agent7510d ago

Killzone on the PS4 had the graphics, but the gameplay was tragic, I only rated Killzone 3, although the first game on the PS2 was decent. The Getaway was another game Sony canned, the sequel was so bad. Plenty of games need a sequel, the likes of Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Project Gotham, Wave Race and F-Zero have been retired. The racing genre these days, I'm sick of Turismo and Forza due to the same tracks and any other clones.

robtion11d ago

I think the original Motorstorm was the game that convinced me to buy a ps3. Way ahead of its time.

Storm2311d ago

I played the sh*t out of MotorStorm 1 and 2. Incredible games.

darthv7211d ago

Pacific Rift was the best of the bunch for me.

badz14910d ago

Pacific Rift for me is still the best off-road racer ever made

Agent7510d ago

Surprised Sony didn't release a collectio, but all they seem to do these days is release God of War and Uncharted collections. It kills me that I no longer have a PS3, so a collection would be awesome.

Classic PS4 Racer DriveClub Is Now a Decade Old

PushSquare:

DriveClub, the legendary PS4 racer from shuttered Runcorn studio Evolution, has such an interesting story.

Originally announced alongside the PS4, the game had been intended as a launch title – we even played it in a big London church Sony had rented to showcase the new system prior to its release.

Evolution was done dirty... DC is still the most stunning visual game of its generation. They certainly deserved better in the end.

VenomUK554d ago (Edited 554d ago )

DriveClub was pretty and I loved the experience of driving in the rain, it was immersive. I had some good races with people from an old forum, but at times I found it to be a bit boring. MotorStorm was such a fun game to play and I loved the controls - it would make sense to remaster that.

DarXyde554d ago

I'd give the visual showcase award of the last generation to The Order: 1886. That game was immaculate.

Uncharted 4 was also absolutely insane, and perhaps manages to use the PS4's power in extremely clever ways.

jznrpg554d ago

It didn’t get good reviews unfortunately

obidanshinobi554d ago

Cause the game was mediocre at best, and surpassed in pretty much every area by Forza Horizon 2.

IRetrouk554d ago

Apart from visuals, driving model, weather effects, only thing forza had was an open world...

Inverno554d ago (Edited 554d ago )

It's multiplayer component was the only thing struggling at launch but the game was still perfectly playable offline. Done dirty is an understatement because how many games after came out with broken online components that got a pass? Now games with an SP and MP get separate reviews for SP and MP smh! SONY shut them down as if Evo had been bleeding money instead of putting out great games. Their fate was undeserved and they were the targets of a media smear campaign due to that one trailer.

Knushwood Butt554d ago

Loved it.
Now here's a game that would benefit from a remaster.
4K, 60 FPS
I'd buy it.

ravens52554d ago

Might have to fire it up. Got it day 1, it was great to me.

outsider1624554d ago

See? Another reason why physical is important. Going all digital will have you miss out games like this.

Gabrielmpf554d ago

I loved tackling the leaderboards. It's a shame they couldn't even keep them.

Yi-Long554d ago

Brilliant game, I really miss it, and it deserved so much better than what Sony did to it.
Most important reason I liked it; It was FUN. That’s it. The actual gameplay, throwing a car around corners, the challenging AI opponents, the entertaining tracks which were peak-design, etc etc, it was above all just FUN to play.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

darthv72825d ago

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85825d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972825d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183824d ago (Edited 824d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim825d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Notellin11d ago

If Microsoft boosted several hundred 360/XB1 to 60 FPS without patching the games I'm sure the modder and therefore also Sony could do the same.

But PlayStation gamers aren't really worthy of receiving those kind of free updates according to Sony and the community. You guys enjoy paying for really easy things like a FPS boost and kneeling down to lick the boots.

Inverno825d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183824d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 11d ago
Chocoburger825d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai825d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC825d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.
