I think it started shortly after Nomura left FFXV production.

I just hope he finishes Kingdom Hearts 3 first lol. I dont want to wait for 2020 to play it.

ninsigma3910d ago

Kingdome hearts 3 is looking really good, so I don't think we need to worry :D
I would imagine the brunt of the work has been done by now!

Shazz3910d ago

i think it will be out come end of next year start of 2017 latest

pivotplease3910d ago

That's just unrealistic. Expect 15 and KH3 to drop first. Remember how long it took them just to remaster FFX? More like 2018 at the earliest.

Shazz3910d ago

do they not have seperate teams making those games? kh3 had gameplay so that could be out 2016 and maybe summer 2017 for ff7 then , one can hope haha

Square Enix has domestic subsidiaries all over the globe outside of acquired devs like Eidos, IO, and Crystal Dynamic, but the question lies on how big and how many teams they have working at each studio.

If I'm not mistaken, Square Enix is the only major Japanese game publisher who doesn't publish arcade cabinets, which is the source income for their competitors Capcom, Namco Bandai, and Sega

2017 will be 20th year anniversary for FF7.

I would think that Square will work tooth and nail to get it out during that year.

Benjammin253910d ago

2017. 20th anniversary of FF7. I put money on it being released then.

N4G4L3910d ago

I can definitely see that happening as they could make it a special edition 20th anniversary copies and such (crosses fingers)

AtariFanboy3910d ago

January 31st, 2017 release date

Jeff2573910d ago

That is very likely. It is even a Tuesday which is the general release day for games today. Would be a perfect way to kick off that day and honestly I could wait until then.

pivotplease3910d ago

Only if KH3 gets thrown on the back burner. Otherwise I don't see it happening.

Lenns3910d ago (Edited 3910d ago )

Release on 20th anniversary

Double_O_Revan3910d ago

I'd believe that's the target date, but reasonably, it'll hit a delay or 2.

I’d love to know how many units have been sold of all the Final Fantasy VII franchise games, including the original, the remakes, spin offs such as Crisis Core, and mobile games Ever Crisis. I bet a fair few copies.

Modern day publisher be like: "Failed to meet sales expectations. Pivoting to live service."

It's an absolute legend of a game. And I honestly really love how the remake trilogy is shaping up so far.

blacktiger6d ago

If you already own it... There, I saved you the click on a deliberately misleading article.

DivineHand12530d ago

I bought the game yesterday on steam for $4 because Square Enix is trying to replace it with a version that has no mod support.

Prior to yesterday, I had no idea the game had so many great mods until people started making a fuss out of it.

Knightofelemia30d ago

I wish Square would port other old games to newer systems I want Xenogears.

gold_drake30d ago

You can thank FF7 scaring Baldur's Gate 2's director 'S***less' for every RPG since

But BG2 didn't emerge in a vacuum, and in a recent chat with Slandered Gaming it emerged that—while we can thank BG2 for a lot of our favourite RPGs since—we have a whole other game to thank for BG2. That'd be Final Fantasy 7, which lit a fire under BG2 director James Ohlen to go all out with the game's structure and companions, per Trent Oster—who worked on the original Baldur's Gate and has since become CEO of Beamdog, the studio behind the BG1 and BG2 Enhanced Editions.
