Nintendo Underwhelms at E3 2015

Though Mario Maker was an exciting talking point last year, a 15 minute in-depth look to a game that has a limited audience wasn't the only let down.

Really underwhelmed! They started really well with the World Championship, but the digital event was horrible. As i said in another post, i'm glad they showed us more footage of upcoming games, but we have seen them all so much that e3 isn't the place to show them again.

I hope they make announcements over the coming days to make up for this.

mikeslemonade3977d ago

My grades so far:
MS: B-
Nintendo: B
Sony: A

Bethesda: A-
EA: B+
Ubisoft: B+

Elit3Nick3977d ago

Really? EA, Ubisoft and especially Nintendo above xbox, do you even try to troll anymore?

curtis923977d ago

@mikes

I disagree with this so hard that I'm going to leave now.

Concertoine3977d ago

@mikeslemonade

I'd say more like:

MS: B+
Sony: A
Nintendo: D

pompombrum3977d ago (Edited 3977d ago )

EA and Ubi the same grade? EA's one was so dull and boring they felt it necessary to at least three times remind us that Battlefront was still to come.

ABizzel13977d ago

@Concertoine

Exact same scores I have for the big 3 on my blogs. I'm hugely disappointed in Nintendo, because this was their chance to push the Wii U and have a second wind, and they basically gave up and let Sony and MS take this generation unchallenged. I was rooting for Nintendo and hoped they'd come swinging with a $199 - $249 price ($229), some Metroid U, 3D Mario, Earthbound, Star Fox, Mario Maker, and F-Zero U all shown, but they completely flopped across the board on all of these except Mario Maker which looks great (Star Fox looks decent).

I don't think the Wii U would have ever came back, but it could have at least been a good selling console if they nailed those things. Now it's doomed to be another GameCube sales wise if not worse, and potentially it's library could be one of those worst ever if NX is truly a Wii U replacement since it'll only have 5 years of support max, and the entire first year was barren due to the struggle of adopting to HD, and now 2015 is underwhelming at best.

Really disappointed in Nintendo this E3, they went from one of their best showings ever last year back to some of their worse.

Seriously; where's Devils Third, Project Treasure and Retro Studios? How about that Tantalus project which is suppose to be in the works? Mother 3? Where exactly were the answers to the questions we asked?

Zodiac3977d ago

I mean, if they wanted to show upcoming games we know about, they should have shown games we really haven't seem much of, such as : Project Treasure, like you mentioned, Fatal Frame 5, gameplay videos of FE X SMT( not another cinematic trailer).

Also, that Metroid reveal was just a huge middle finger!

-Foxtrot3977d ago

Are people defending Nintendo going to finally open there eyes now. It's always "Lets wait for XXXX"

You are only going to help Nintendo is if you complain and tell them what you want.

No Metroid for Wii U they give us one which we didn't ask for

Two Zelda games on the 3DS

Mario, Mario, Mario and more Mario with a hint of Paper Mario

Two Animal Crossing games...both spins offs

One AC game has features that should have been in New Leaf

Selling their soul to Activision

Amiibos...they are getting out of hand just as I said they would. Greed...total greed. Well done people who buy them you've made them exploit it even more. God knows if this is going to influence their next console now with another gimmick.

gangsta_red3977d ago

"You are only going to help Nintendo is if you complain and tell them what you want."

With the recent sales of WiiU I am pretty sure the fans have been telling Nintendo what they want.

All this conference did was confirm that the WiiU is on it's last leg and more than likely all development has been shifted to the NX console.

Lighter93977d ago

You have lots of bubbles for a reason. :D

-Foxtrot3977d ago

@gangsta_red

Nintendo are funny, they'd rather hide under a rock and focus on those defending them so they can delude themselves into thinking that everything is fine and dandy. If you focus on those white knights then you'll obviously think nothing is wrong even with the sales being low.

Only when this die hard fans join the rest of us in reality instead of attacking people with legit complaints THEN Nintendo will snap out from it's long day dream

pompombrum3977d ago (Edited 3977d ago )

Nintendo just seem so content on being Nintendo. They kept using the term transformation which is ironic because every gamer with fond memories of Nintendo can see that they are in desperate need of one.

mandf3977d ago

Foxtrot

The problem isn't the fans. They are too young to type on the internet yet. People that defend nintendo don"t understand sale demographics. Nintendo has always been a gateway console for children. Nintendo caters to children type games. They get away with rehashing the same ips over and over with a new gameplay element to them. As children grow up they move to pc, ps, or xbox for more mature games that other people their age are playing. They get away with it because children grow up and the next wave takes over so there never is any backlash. They don't have to change. If halo was on number29 us older gamers would grow tired of halo. If nintendo hadall the 3rd party support of multiplats parents wouldn't buy nintendo products. Nintendo is safe for parents and it should be. Gamers need to realize we need a childrens console that is safe for parents. Some of you defend nintendo to death look at its sales children aren't buying it. They want a 3ds. Nintendo are in a tough spot.

Well if you are underwhelmed because of lack of announcements you shouldn't be as this is to be expected on a dieing platform. Everything for Wii U has now officially been announced. Everything else is being pushed to NX and of course NX might be a worse platform than the Wii U based on the current rumors.

3-4-53977d ago

I think they are saving it for their own direct a different day.

Only think that makes sense.

That way all the focus is on them. Otherwise, I'm not sure why they wouldn't announce more.

New zelda came out of nowhere, but even that seemed off. A Zelda game that focused on fashion?

bcornett143977d ago

Gotta look good if you're in Hyrule...

-Foxtrot3977d ago

Links been wearing the same outfit for decades and no one has complained

Fashion moves slow in Hyrule :)

Nintendo finally abandoning wii u? It seems Yes, they have not shown any games in this E3 for WII U D:

Neonridr3977d ago

Star Fox, Yoshi's Wooly World, Xenoblade, Animal Crossing: Amiibo whatever it's called, Mario Tennis, Mario Maker, That Fire Emblem game.. those were all Wii U games.

iSuperSaiyanGod3977d ago

Don't call that mess animal crossing ....

Neonridr3977d ago

@SuperSaiyan - ok, Mario Party dressed up as Animal Crossing..

3977d ago
ritsuka6663977d ago

There is no doubt in my mind now that Nintendo is moving on to NX.

Neonridr3977d ago

how do I get so many disagrees for stating a clear fact?

I really wonder sometimes..

ABizzel13977d ago

@Neonridr

They were facts, but like the article says nearly everything was underwhelming.

Star Fox looked like a GameCube game.
Yoshi is just anoter of the many 2D platformers
Animal Crossing was Mario Party 17
The other was an interior design sim
Mario Tennis is still just a Tennis game

Mario Maker looks great and the best of the bunch, but it's not the huge 3D Mario people wanted, although it's still a great game to have.

Xenoblade has been shown at least 3 E3's now.

Fire Emblem was nothing but an Anime trailer.

SMT x FE was a freaking JP anime trailer with no subtitles at a conference being shown to a primarily American audience in studio.

It was a freaking disaster, aka hot@$$mess.

And science proves a hot@$$mess spawning a disagee > an agree posting facts.

ALso I didn't disagree with you.

Neonridr3977d ago

@ABizzel1 - fair enough, thanks for not disagreeing, lol

I'm a huge Nintendo fan, and while some of the games do look good and will be picking them up for both the Wii U and 3DS, the show was still awful. I didn't mind the muppets, they looked funny enough, but jesus.. tease us a little bit with some 2016 stuff.

LegendZelda3977d ago

No reason not to show a zelda wii u trailer. That would have gone miles.

bcornett143977d ago

I appreciate the sense of humor Nintendo has with these events. They have fun and it shows. I thought the muppet stuff was clever and ultimately thought that was a secret hint of a Mario Puppet type game. But alas, I was reaching.

jcnba283977d ago

That's it though, they didn't tease anything new for 2016 on Wii U which makes me think NX is sooner than we expect. I hope they've learned their lesson from Wii U and don't make the same mistakes again.

Neonridr3977d ago

well they confirmed that Zelda was still for the Wii U. But we now know that the game isn't coming until fall/holiday 2016 now because you know it will be front and center next E3.

But does that mean there are ZERO games between January and June of 2016? This was their chance to show those games off too.

Djkmilo3977d ago

wow...it was soo badd..i knw they sed only 2015 and early 2016 but they should of have shown Devils, Third and Fatal Frame v, they should done Earthbound Beginnings in the Direct...and In-brace the Indies... also just at least show some of the games comming up in the later on in a mix 1,in video...... AND NO NEW IP??!!!!!!!. just bad... im a die hard fanboy but come on...NO RETRO GAME?? NO NEXT LEVEL?? and also sed EXITING 3rd PARTIES collaboration.....

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

Nintendo filed a lawsuit in the United States Court of International Trade.

Nintendo of America is suing the United States government over the sweeping tariffs President Donald Trump put in place last year, according to a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. Court of International Trade and obtained by Aftermath.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer59d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot59d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno59d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay59d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno58d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK58d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
