Sony loses so much money on all this, by trying to keep it free. Everything they add just comes out of thier pocket, they wan't somthing to equal Live so bad they are willing to pay out the a$$ to get it. It does work, to a point but with each new update they are still a step behind. What they need to do is stop with the updates for about 6 months and come out with one big bang.

I just want to listen to music in-game. NO MATTER WHAT. Almost every game has the feature to turn off its own soundtrack of music in-game. Sony, I thought you wanted the PS3 to be a Media Center/ Gaming Console. Where is the inbetween? Xbox 360 certainly can. I want my custom soundtrack!

I would rather them tweek the speed of the inter browser and add more codec support.

Cross game voice chat and voice messaging. Add those two things and I will never say a bad thing about psn again.

i'll tell you something else they should do. when you are about to start a game your background changes. i'd like to be able to capture those images and use em as backgrounds.

Me and my friends were playing Warhawk, and Burnout, and it seems that we all get some problems with our mics at some point. In warhawk, after a round, one or two of our mates can't hear us, but we can hear him pretty good (and it's not the same dudes all the time BTW).

In Burnout, after awhile, the same thing happens. I heard this happens in Resistance and in COD4, so I point towards 2.4 as being faulty in this area.

How about all the features from 2.40 but this time they work flawless with EVERY game, is that really too much to ask

In game web browsing? who and why? Cant it wait? No computer? Why not ask for the ability to send videos to people on our friends list? Wouldn't that be nice to download videos or movies sent from your friend with the push of 3 buttons?

Am I the only one who wants background downloading? This is one feature that comes in very handy with my 360, and I've wondered why it has been so difficult for Sony to implement this. It would be so nice to be able to download in the background of non-online games, and to have the ability to download when the console is turned off as the 360 does. I hate having to leave the PS3 on forever to download at times when I'm downloading large bits of content.

My opinion on there features:

Possible:

Send voice messages -> Not impossible but last on the list of things that would be useful. Text is fine.

Access the XMB no matter what -> Definitely possible down the road.

Change more settings while in-game -> possible feature in the future.

Custom Soundtracks -> possible, I still cannot see why the PS3 cannot overwrite a games sound with your own, it would cover music and sound effects but devs can alter that if necessary.

Cross game invites -> possible I suppose but may not be worth the trouble this far into the consoles life, many games would need patches.

Smoother in-game XMB -> positive this will happen down the road.

Appear offline -> simple enough.

Delete Multiple messages -> do you really need to do this in-game?

Any Avatar -> I would love to see this.

Very Unlikely:

In game web browsing -> Will never happen, the in-game XMB only has the single SPE and 32MB(I think) of ram to work with, most all of which is used by the OS. This is just too ambitious.

Access the Playstation Store in-game -> Another feature that just cannot be done in-game, to many resources required.

Aslong as they speed the XMB up a little while in a game and add 3 or 4 way voice chat with friends (no matter what game they were playing) that would be great.

There are only a few other things that i "need" in a future update..
- Ability to create playlists with songs in flash cards
- In-game audio/video chat with friends
- An updated theme compiler with ability to create custom icons for ALL icons in the XMB

another cool feature would be
- Ability to use GIF's, Flash or others to create moving backgrounds..

As far as I am concerned the only thing I wanna see in firmware 2.5 is for the standard def DVD player to be made multi region because I have a few region 1 and 3 disks floating around which I would like to be able to play on the PS3.

Also, just a mad suggestion, how about gadgets that sit on the xmb home page for the future.

My number one thing I want is sequential video playback. If I'm listening/watching music videos at a party, I don't want to have the remote on me at all times. To go with that, how about a video playlist?

Speaking of the background changes when starting a game. I would love to have that noise it makes as a ringtone for my phone. You know, the little chime it makes. Anyone know where to find that at? Also, I'd like to find the PSP one too.

You guys may not need it, but being able to use the PS3 to web-browse while in games lets me turn my PC off and thus save power. Also I can switch back and forth between MGS4 and Youtube for help for my Big Boss Emblem.

he know alot but one thing is the Delete multiple messages. YOU CAN DUMBA**. you hit triangle on the inbox or sent box and hit delete. ti will get rid of all messages.

I think that In game music is nice but I don't want to have any MP3s on my PS3's hard drive. I want to leave the hard drive for Downloaded games, Game Data, movies, etc... Why can't we have access to the media server while in game?

I don't know about the rest of you, but the current implementation is near useless for me. As noted above 98% of the options presented to you in the XMB are not possible in game, and therefore are useless distractions. A FAR better approach would have been to allow access to features through the in game menu. Now when I hit the PS3 button I get a useless XMB. 99% of the time I just hold down the button to quit the game, as the XMB method is simply too slow.

So add listings to the original in game menu such as:
1. Soundtracks
2. Headset Pairing
3. Messaging
4. Video resolution change (for those titles that truly support 1080p)

I cannot think of a scenario in which I would EVER want to look at my stored pictures, videos, etc etc from within a game. The current implementation was a rush job to appease the masses. How about we get some more dev time to do it right.

Trophies are cool, but they need a better approach to get more titles patched to support them....and SOON!

All in all the PS3 is still the best bet in town, and is continually improving.

The thing that bothers me the most is small but annoying. To access the messages a person has sent you, you have to push triangle and then go to message list whereas before you would just have to push X. I know it's just a small thing but that means it'll be easy to fix right?

There's even an option to turn your music up on the little music player that Sony integrated. If hackers can get it to work with the PSP then I don't see why Sony can't get it to work on the PS3.

Heres a idea with the new update. How about being able to mute anyone at anytime in pre-game lobbys and after the game.

I hate it when I'm in call of duty lobby and pretty are talking in there headsets and it sounds like a bear is yelling into the mic. or they have there music loud as heck and i cant mute them till we get into the game.

How about we are able to mute them right away. Like being away to see there profile from the lobby instead of seening them in the xmb. or being able to mute them from the xmb. either or Lets have a mute bottom on there profile.

The only 2 critical upgrades for me are:
- Flash 9 support
- In game media server server access for in game music

I dont think they would ever allow custom PSN pics because people will just upload tits :P

I don't understand the want for in game web browsing myself. I don't plan on surfing the web while playing a game. I can't see why anyone would really.

The only improvements I'd really like to see are cross-game voice chat and cross-game invites. If they'd add those two features, I'd be pretty happy with the PSN, and everything else would be gravy.

I hope that they don't get lazy just because they think that they have given users every feature that they asked for. Sony needs to continue working on the firmware so that the system can be the best that it can possibly be. No slouching, Sony! Listen to your consumers and you will reap the benefits!

I realise this is News for GAMERS, so most of you guys probably are not that interested in the media centre aspects of the PS3 but the music player needs to have a proper folder/search function implemented. I can't see this as being a technically challenging overhaul of the firmware but a little tinkering with the existing music interface could easily provide A-Z folders by artist rather than the pointless song titles. I spend about 70% of my time on the PS3 gaming and the rest of my time using it an entertainment hub, which it excels at, but scrolling through 70GB's of music is not much fun and really detracts from the overall polish and convenience of the XMB.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
