When Super Smash Bros first release for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, players that owned both versions of the game could use their 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version of the game. This feature was only available if the player owned both versions. Today, without any sort of official announcement, Nintendo released an app on the 3DS that allows users to use their 3DS as a controller, even if they do not own the 3DS version of the game. This app costs 99 cents to purchase and can be found on the 3DS eShop.

NetherRealm confirms its Mortal Kombat franchise has sold over 80 million copies in the last 30 years, and here's how it competes against other fighters.
Don't care what anyone says, Smash isn't a traditional fighting game. May as well call Powerstone and Playstation All Stars fighting games. They're more of an arena fighter /party game.
Including Smash Bros in a list of fighting games, is like including GTA in Racing games.
The designer of the original Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 shows us the prototype that started it all.

Kim writes: "Super Smash Bros. will not be shown at Evo 2022, this year's biggest fighting game event. The Sony-owned sports organization announced the loss of the platformer in a statement on Twitter today, and seemed to blame the decision on Nintendo, which has historically tried to control how their games appear in the wild."
In away this hurts Nintendo Smash Bros has some dedicated fans. What better way to help build hype and sell more of the game then showcasing it at EVO.
Great! Can't get enough of SSB on my new 3ds XL when I'm at work, and love SSB Wii U when I'm home! Haven't loved SSB like this since N64 also really enjoyed the GameCube version as well. I'm puzzled as to why Nintendo didn't release this from the beginning or when the new 3ds XL launched. Really disappointed Nintendo is charging (US) $.99 but I guess it's cheaper than buying an extra controller or buying a copy of SSB 3DS.
You have to pay to use a console you already own as a controller? That is stupid. I can use my Vita as a second controller on any PS4 game via remote play.
