GWN Preview: Saints Row 2

GWN:

''Most people remember Saints Row as the Grand Theft Auto clone, just like most people remember Crackdown for having the Halo 3 beta attached to it. What most people don't remember was just how fun Crackdown was except those who actually used the disc for something other than making sure a slightly broken game got fixed, just like those who played Saints Row had a good time with it and are looking forward to its sequel.

Saints Row 2 takes place five years after the first game leaves off, players awaken from a coma only to find out that everything that happened five years earlier has gone to hell. The Saints have dispersed and Stilwater is now split between three different gangs. It's the player's job to get the Saints back together and take back the city.

The first thing I noticed from Saints Row 2 was that it isn't like GTA IV, in that it isn't a serious game with humorous undertones. It's an over-the-top explosive extravaganza that can be as serious or funny as you like, and this all happens based on what customizations you make.
Let's look at character customization first. It's not the best ever, but it works and is detailed, similar to Rock Band's.''

Broken Games That Never Got Fixed

While a lot (like way too many) games launch in sorry states these days, a lot of them do eventually get polished up over time fixes. The same can’t be said for these properly broken games.

Worst for me is wipeout 2048.
I got gold in every single player race, made it extremely far into the great online shop platinum was a finger away.. then lost all my online progression. Many players experienced the same and hadn’t been fixed since

Cyberpunk and No Mans Sky are obviously the 2
best comeback stories. Cyberpunk is literally one of the best RPGs ever made now.

Christopher313d ago

I wouldn't call NMS broken at release, just under-delivered.

Michiel1989314d ago

junctioning is only broken now because it's been datamined which monster which gives which card and which card gives which items and every single spell to junction with the highest points for each stat. For it's time when that info wasn't readily available it was good, not without it's flaws, but not broken,

-Foxtrot314d ago

Exactly. I never got this because what made it broken was the knowledge of what to exploit.

Playing the game for the first time back then you never had any knowledge to make it so easy.

One minute the Junction system is complicated, the next it's super easy / broken. What is it?

gold_drake313d ago

i mean, ff8 is not "broken" per se, its just that the junction system is too good and easily exploited even an hour into the game. haha

Ashunderfire86313d ago

Star Wars Jedi Survivor is one of them. I can’t get in the Cantina bar later on in the game. The door and other doors throughout the environment is locked off. It is a shame, because I wanted to complete the game, but I can’t until they fix it.

You know usually when someone says "you may have missed" it's games that were lesser known, hidden gems, underrated games. These are all super high profile games that sold extremely well.

FPS_D3TH1273d ago (Edited 1273d ago )

You know the 2000s is 20 years ago too? Maybe, just maybe this wasn’t an article targeted to 30+ gamers? Still says at the very beginning of the title “THE BEST GAMES you may have missed”. Regardless of how well they sold there’s tons of gamers who haven’t touched these older well known games lol.

Welshy1273d ago (Edited 1273d ago )

It's games you "may have missed", insinuating you were around and gaming in the 2000's and were there to miss them. If it was aimed at everyone else then they missed literally everything, not just the top games.

The original commenter is right, this is a badly written article at best pointless at worst.

Crows901273d ago

Besides only being able to miss it if you were around during that time..if your point stands then this is a horrible list. Tons of better games people may have missed

I would like the original max payne remade in a new engine with ray tracing. 😊

FPS_D3TH1273d ago

Remedy games already working on that and I’m so stoked for it

XxINFERNUSxX1273d ago

Oh yeah thanks for reminding me I totally forgot they were doing it. Also what the hell happened to Kingpin: Reloaded? On Steam coming soon and nohting from the dev.

MadLad1273d ago

Yeah, I was just going to say. It's interesting seeing them back behind the series. Max Payne 3 was amazing, but then Rockstar just sat on the IP.
Well, they sit on virtually anything that isn't GTA and Red Dead now.

porkChop1273d ago

What is this list? These are all hugely popular games. I was expecting games like Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Advent Rising, Arx Fatalis, etc.

FPS_D3TH1273d ago

the title didn’t say lesser known titles from the 2000s. This is 20 years ago now lol. Big assumption this list was made for older gamers.

Dirty_Lemons1273d ago

That makes me feel so old.

Inverno1273d ago

I've only played 3 on that list. Part of me feels bad about how little I used all the consoles I've owned as a kid. One bright side is, there's over 30 years of games to experience for the first time.
