People hated the PS3 because they Could not afford it. Its still too high for teh average consumer to pick one up. But then again, so are HDTV's. I think Sony knows what they are doing. I'll trust there 10yr vision. As far as I can tell, i'm not going anywhere soon. I'll stay along for the ride. Graphics are at teh poitn where they are eye pleasing, do we need a Huge jump in graphics in a couple years.... No. But the Cell (which he hates on) is actually teh answer to this. Which will allow for greater Physics, Animation, Simulation, Particles etc... The Graphics will top out but everythign else will continue to evolve in the PS3 life cycle. man sometimes i really hate this site anything that says wii xbox360 or ps3 gets thrown into this site and its just people with no expertise in anything just mouthing off claiming facts. when i decided to get a ps3 its because i knew almost every third party game was coming to the ps3 and 360 but would i trade sony's game division for microsoft game studios hell no sony is unmatched with its first party development so this guy shouldn't worry about the ps3 nobody should in fact.

Most of ps3's success is due to people who previously loved sony from ps2 and ps1. Now they feel burned by ps3. Sony used to be the market leader and they blew that.

I dont think many people will be in line to get ps4. Sony lost Final Fantasy, Metal gear solid is finished, gran turismo takes 6 years per game now, Sony has lost its way

This guy honestly thinks Sony is doing bad? It takes a risk to deliver the best technology to the market. Sony took the risk and it is only now starting to pay off. PS2 got the jump on the xbox last gen, and that was when no one knew what the heck the xbox was. 360 got the jump on PS3 this time, and people some indication that the 360 would be awesome. Sony is not doing bad. They just have more competition this time around. The Wii is a huge success, so of course it makes the PS3 look worse. This guy needs to pay attention to whats happening a little bit better. This time around MS and Nintendo are putting up a fight, and Sony is giving it right back. The very definition of PS3 is quality. The hardware is quality, the games are quality. PS1 and PS2 were littered with failure rates compared to the PS3. If anything, this shows Sony is stepping up. They are working on making their online gaming a lot better than last generation. They have a working video store that is on par to the 360 marketplace. We now have in game XMB for most games. We just got trophies for completionists like myself. Give me a break, this guy is living in the past.

The RSX is defiantly weaker than the 360 GPU but he is underestimating what the cell can handle, according to DICE the cell helps to push texture res up, not down. Also in an age where graphics are being maxed out(too much more and the development costs won't justify the sales) the PS3 will at least be able to look toward advanced physics and other number heavy systems which the CPU allows it to do much more efficiently than any other console.

The PS3 can not output the raw polygons the 360 can but between the cell, disc space, and HDD it can do things the 360 cannot. The 360s GPU is praised for the assisted AA that is almost never used. Neither Halo 3 nor Gears 1&2 use AA at all instead using it for lighting, this puts it neck and neck with the PS3 which does not perform both simultaneously either.

If you say the 360 is more powerful than the PS3 you would be incorrect just as saying the opposite would be. This gen we have two platforms the really do have separate strengths and weaknesses. Also he mentions more exclusives on the 360, this is true but there are many that are far from AAA.

This article is not really too accurate, it undermines some of the advantages the PS3 has over the 360. They are not the same or even similar platform, if you wish to compare than do so equally. There are many points the writer missed.

Also from a numbers standpoint the PS3 is doing very well, as we saw last gen the power of the system means very little in the long run. We are continuing to see PS3 sales rise faster than the 350s at the moment, to count them out now is simply foolish.

I think the blokes bit of a plonker. I will say though that Sonys first year was pretty bad. The online side of things should have been there ( as promised) day one. It should have also been easier to program allowing games to come to it quicker and the entry price point was misjudged. And i think it was the sony playstation name that got them the sales that year cause lets face it if had been microsoft they would be dead out of the race by now.
But things have improved , theres great games, the online is getting better and better and it looks to have a good future and some great games coming. I just hope they learnt there lesson.

How many times do I have to say this?, again, the infamous RSX weaker than Xenos arguement, I'll tell you now that the RSX is stronger than Xenos in some areas, so I confirm them both equal in terms of performance and quality, I'm not even going to go into more detail, but I'll just say that when the next OpenGL updates come for the RSX (which is what it was designed for, aswell as working with the Cell), that will shut Bruce up...

How shortsided is this article. It's obvious the PS3 is headed for second place. The sales will be dramatically different than now four years into the console's lifespan. It's already rapidly catching the 360.

The PlayStation brand has dominated for the last 10 years due to problems with the competition (N64 seemed like old tech which couldn't compete with adult PS games, Saturn was expensive and had few games, Dreamcast was advertised out of existence, Xbox was expensive out marketed and too late to the shop shelves and the cube had a kiddy image) but this gen the competition has got its act together and the market is much closer; I'm not saying Sony has not made some screw ups but with the other consoles getting their act together then the market shares of this generation were bound to change.

The reason why Sony put Blu-ray, the Cell Processor and other advanced technology in the PS3 is because they wanted to future proof it. Even though the PS3 got off to a slow start because of the hefty price tag, things have pointing back in Sony's favor, PS3 sales have been picking up, and this is just the beginning. Microsoft is a fool for thinking that they will outsell Sony this generation by just selling in the United States and hardly anywhere else. The U.S. Economy is in shambles and Microsoft can't count on the U.S. economy like they used to.

An article like this isn't even relevant anymore. Articles like this were written about the PS3 last year whenever everyone thought that the PS3 was a failure, but the PS3 has come a long way since then and all of that extra baggage that people were talking about last year is old news.

-and its true tht the Xbox`s GPU(the xenos) is way better than the RSX(the gpu used in the ps3)...the xenos is based on Ati` sR600 gpu..like the one used in the Ati HD 3870...THe RSX is based on Nvidia 7800gtx...FOr those of u who dont have Rigs...a 7800gtx would get owned by a 3870..

-and with the lack of memory(only 256mb) in the ps3 u`ll never see its full potential...(dont reply telling me its has 512mb..cause it doesnt....i has two 256mb`s...one for the cpu and one for the gpu..it cant be added because each has its seperate functions...the 360 however...has 512mb of unified mempry..meaning it can be shared by the cpu and gpu and OS...the os can acces a maximum of 32mb...

Some of his points are true. The Cell was expensive to make and is hard to program for. Every tech article I've seen says the 360 graphics chip is more powerful. Blu-ray was expensive and the shortage of blue-diodes delayed the PS3. Blu-ray and the Cell are the reason for the 4 billion in loses in the games division. Sony and Microsoft are trying to follow Nintendo, they didn't misread the market, they just didn't go after the new market as much as Nintendo did. Sony is broke as hell, they have far more debt than cash. Just look at their yearly report. The games division used to be where they made their money, now it loses hundreds of millions every year. They have lost a lot of their exclusives. They are playing catchup online. It is free, what did you really expect. Sony's divisions don't talk to each other? That's not new, I think the first time I heard that was from Sony's CEO Howard Stringer. That's one of the things he said he would change first. Bruce does seem to have something against Sony, but disagreeing because you're a fanboy makes you just as bad. Most of what he said is true, don't just shoot the messenger. They've done this every single time. Its just Economics, you go after the hardcore enthusiasts/ EARLY ADOPTERS with a HIGH PRICE, then when you make back some money you lower the price to make more accessible.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.
