It will fail as a product offering. Technically it will be great of course, but people don't care about that. It's about price, ease of use, software lineup, etc.

History has proven that expensive accesories dont sell well. Im still surprised MS managed to sell as many kinects as they did last gen (25 million), but this is a more pricey proposition to jhonny- casual gamer. Sure all the PS fans on N4G will buy it ( apparently), but thats not saying much. Sony needs to be able to sell this to the mass market in order to recoup what they spent making this headset. Time will tell all, I guess.

There are more titles confirmed to have Morpheus support than the whole Move and Kinect libraries combined.

Will fail? Sound confident , I'd let it pass if you said , could fail , but considering many companies (and PC) is on board with v.r , I'm pretty confident in saying , won't fail.

It will succeed or fail based on the quality of the games released for it. I'm probably not going to be a day 1 adopter but will be keeping a close eye on how it goes. I can see some real potential so hope we some fantastic first and third party experiences.

Another gimmick. Like Kinect, move, 3D, the power glove, history has shown no gaming accessories succeed unless it is a controller. Sure it will have its cult following but it won't succeed as a mass appeal adaption will be limited.

This isn't a passing fad or the power glove like 1 sad soul compared it to this is the future, look at how many companies are adopting VR tech it speaks for itself. Zuckerberg & fb have no business/tech sense? VR wasn't feasible 20-30 yrs ago but in 2015 it is real.Move wasn't a hit bc it took a 3D tech & tried to use it in a 2D space. Move as a tech was very sound & they always had VR in mind when developing it.

This guy never even used Morpheus, this isn't 96' it's almost 2 decades later and yes sir ur a dinosaur in your way of thinking. He tries to disparage anyone interested in Morpheus by call them naive young gamers, im an experienced legit gamer who is 30 and i'm very excited for Morpheus and know it'll be a success. I'd like to see the pro Morpheus article next wk i bet n4G doesn't run it. Why is this isolating Morpheus and not occulous and all VR?

1 As low as 200 for Morpheus is a ridiculously cheap price considering the tech and the screen/lenses - considering i have only a laptop/tablet i would need to spend 1500 to use Occulous, 200-250 is very reasonable imo, this is hardly a peripheral in the normal sense it has a 6 inch 1080p OLED screen & at least 3 different processors in it u can use it in place of a tv & watch blu-rays on it. This isn't a rinky dink peripheral, get real.

2 Framerate won't be an issue considering Sony themselves said they won't allow games to run under 60fps on Morpheus and with frame interpolation technology it will run at essentially 120fps.

3Morpheus has basically been finished since gdc the only reason they are waiting until 2016 to release is because they are waiting on the big-name games to release with it. They could release it now with Eve Valkyrie ect but this shows u they are doing everything they can to have a strong lineup.

- Sony has transformed a London studio into a Morpheus only studio, obviously they are developing games solely for Morpheus as well as integrating Morpheus compatibility in such games as No Man's Sky, Rapture , Horizon ect. Whoever hasn't seen footage of the London Heist game seemingly in development needs to google it now it's amazing.

Sony created the move and PS4 with Morpheus in Mind it has been a long process and very costly no way they would dump on it early. E3 will unveil new Morpheus titles and it should be a blast.

I have been watching game play VR reviews on Portal of awesome and it seems really good...So I am hopeful....

I personally cannot wait to buy morpheus, the possibilities are very exciting.

Give me Eve's Valkrie, Project cars, No Man's Sky and War Thunder in VR and I really don't care if they never make another VR game for Project Morpheus. But I also think Morpeus lends itself well to some other sports games like golf and baseball.

My only concern is the price. If you price it for the hardcore, you better have the games to serve them. Casuals don't just run out and drop $300+ on gaming accessories So it makes little sense to populate the Morpheus library with casualware...

With Sony dropping HMZ line, there is strong rumors that Morpheus will also be able to act as personal viewer.
Personal viewer market is pretty small at 1000$ but it's huge at 250-350$ (that the price of a small Tv or computer monitor). How many people would buy this a a second (or third) TV to be able to game/watch TV/movie while the wife or kids are using the other?
If Morpheus can be a display (not VR just a 'huge' screen) for computer, other consoles (PS3, PSTV, XB360/ONE, WiiU), Blueray, TV setup box, etc the market potential is huge if they keep the price low.
If they do so, I am sure PC support for VR if come as well (from Sony or homebrewed ones).
What is the risk then (for casual or hardcore gamer both) to buy Morpheus. Even if support drops you still have a very capable device that can serve as another monitor/tv that was much cheaper than a big screen TV.
I can imagine Morpheus selling tons a PS4 after the fact for people that bought Morpheus as 'a viewer' and then want the total experience by buying the device (PS4) than make Morpheus capable of VR. And the software sale will follow.

Clearly some people have not yet experienced VR, its a no brainer to a gamer in my opinion. Its that good. The potential is through the roof.

He's right in every way. Who wants to play games like "ride the roller coaster" or "walk around the castle"? Unless Morpheus gets a lot of AAA games on board, it will inevitably flop. No games, no future period.

Morpheus will have an uphill battle to be sure. It's (a) an accessory that (b) won't be cheap and (c) it will take considerable time to build up a respectable library. We're sure to get a fair share of proof of concept games a la Wii Sports and Kinect Adventures until more must-have software comes in.

It's hard to say, but if Sony plays their cards right, it can be very successful. E3 advertising isn't enough. You need the games, testimonies, air time, store kiosks, you name it. Peripherals just about never do incredibly well and are very rarely ever well-supported, especially at a premium cost.

I'd love to see it thrive, but it would be remiss to say Sony will have an easy time selling this technology.

If morpheus has day one support for GT7 you can bet people would want it. Dedicated fans have either a decent wheel, a seat & mount or all the above The only thing missing would be a genuine hydraulic rig. (Which is boss btw)

I understand people's apprehension based on Kinect, and other motion controls, but people are forgetting one simple truth when it comes to VR vs. Kinect/Motion controls....

That is Kinect/motion controls required NEW types of games and most of that was very gimmicky. It required thrown on ad-hoc gimmicks, didn't work well in most games, and was trying to replace a much more precise device that also was an industry standard, the good old regular controller, which also had far less input lag.

Contrast that with VR, which, for most games are already made in 3D, which means literally every 3D game, at its core, basically already is ready for VR. Whether it's your favorite RPG, or FPS, or even sports title, you already play in a 3D world, it's just presented on a 2D screen. Thus, support for VR is pretty much nothing to implement. You aren't changing the game, you are just presenting it in a different way. You are not ditching the controller, rather, you can still use a controller with VR.

VR augments the games you already play, it isn't trying to reinvent the wheel with a square like motion controls.

Yes some people will have problems, some people won't have the money, and some people might not like it and prefer it the old way. But many won't have these problems and there won't be enough of them to slow VR down.

VR is not motion controls. No one was dreaming of a laggy alternative to better regular controls in niche genres which require a ton of effort to play when you just want to sit down and have fun.

Gamers HAVE been dreaming of VR for 25 years, and it fits in perfectly with games they already play and they get to keep their controller in their hand, and you don't have to flail around looking funny while also tiring yourself.

All those negative points of motion controls doesn't exist with VR. You don't need separate studios creating distinct games for VR, again, just about every game most people play will fit in with VR, and no, it will not cost them a ton to implement support. Not even 1 percent more cost. Maybe 1/20th of 1 percent. Sure you can have VR only games/studios, but you don't need to. Most game you likely already play will work with VR if supported, which again will cost almost nothing to do.

Morpheus will fail because OCULUS makes him sick and KINECT has no support. Clearly SONY who has NOTHING to do with either device is at fault here... SMH

If there is support, it works well, and there is porn for it it will succeed. Is Sony allowing porn? Does that even go through Sony or is it just on a blu ray disc?

At one time, gaming consoles and joysticks were a "gimmick" too, and look where that went...

Author seems to ignore that many VR games will be multiformat, with UE4 having tools for easy porting.
Kinect was a solo format, with low user numbers.
Morpheus using reprojection ( a software solution from Sony to double framerate. This apparently works, according to users. This is also in UE4 middleware).
I used Occulus and didn't get sick.
I'll be buying Morpheus. VR is amazing.
More people that get eyes on with it, more or will sell.
