The Downgrade Paradigm

Does the marketing of game presentation need to change, given people noticing downgrades? Of course. But so does the narrative surrounding the issue. Graphical downgrades are a problem, sure. But we could deal with the reality of it better.

I get that downgrades have to happen, but there are things companies can do to avoid an angry mob of pitchfork-wielding gamers:

1. Don't announce games so early! Wait 6-9 months before release. That's enough time to build hype and by that time they should have a good idea of what the game will actually look like.
2. If you must announce early, don't show gameplay. Or if you MUST show gameplay, add a disclaimer like "Pre-alpha footage, rendered on (PC/PS4), subject to change."

I still don't get the idea with announcing games early, then showing what it offers if it's still 2 - 3 years away. Do they honestly need that long a hype period to bounce pre-orders, because for many that hype wanes with long releases.

And yes, honesty is sorely lacking these days.

I agree people lose their excitement after awhile. It would be nice if every game announced at E3 would be released before the next E3

FarEastOrient4003d ago

6-9 months would be perfect, this way the conferences hold more surprises and expectations are kept in check. Announcing games 2-3 years ahead of time forces people to sit on their hands and invent things that are not part of the original scope or worse yet give outlets time to create false news.

Fireseed4003d ago

To be fair most games have those "Pre-Alpha Footage" disclaimers, but many gamers are far too stupid to realize that things can look worse and not necessarily better.

uth114003d ago

Some do. I don't think watchdogs or witcher did.

Fireseed4003d ago

The Witcher didn't but at the same time the devs stated many times what state the game was in, and that things would change.

But yeah WatchDogs most certainly is guilty for attempting a bait and switch. Ubisoft is one of the Publishers I would say actively abuses this ploy.

Developers just need to be honest.

The actor who portrayed Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher series of games has died

Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor probably best known for starring in British comedy drama Monarch of the Glen - but known to me for being the hilariously foul-mouthed dwarf Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 - has died aged 81.

Cause they play NBA2k26, COD and gamepass

3x less sales than Playstation.
3x less consoles sold than Playstation.

Per captita, it averages out that the same number of users are buying CDP games regardless of platform, no?

Bathyj52d ago

The exact same or possibly more because a series S, initial investment and effort to Port to Xbox consoles for a third of the return.

Simply not worth it

LMGk52d ago

“ Simply not worth it”

And yet, basically every game comes to Xbox.

NotoriousWhiz52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

A third is a pretty big number to be honest. Like would you rather make 15 million or 20 million? That's the difference that a third makes.

Hey it’s ok. They are really impressed with XBOx’s new CEO so exclusivity is on the way. 😂

Loktai52d ago

Ok but I mean be logical ... modern PC, Switch, PS4 PS5 then you have XBOX, of all of those XBOX is probably only 10 percent... I mean, what do you expect? 10 percent increase in sales is still nothing to sneeze at, remember - this is CD projekt red and they sell a lot of software. 10 percent of their sales is probably what most studios DREAM of selling .... just playing devils advocate..... its easy to say LOL haha XBOX.... but.. I mean we know what it is at this point. I havent bought on since my xbox one X and before that I only used other peoples xboxes since the OG XBOX and stick with PC and Playstation and switch OLED, but .. I mean.... theres nothing WRONG with an xbox considering its just not the best - but they work fine. make no mistake.
