PSW: Mirror's Edge Preview

Oi, Persia. Get out of it. Croft, skedaddle. All you acrobatic platforming types are all the same. Born with a silver spoon jammed right in your faces, and snooping around dusty, sandy levels like some kind of tourist. The heroine of Mirror's Edge is called Faith, and her world is a long sprint away from filth and privilege. She's a courier in a modern-day alternate world where the dazzlingly, clinically clean windows are just one symptom of a nanny government in overdrive.

It's a world approaching political satire - everything in Mirror's Edge is under surveillance. Every bit of information is monitored and controlled, and if you eat a bowl of Corn Flakes at breakfast, you'll be on the Kellogg Lovers' Register before lunch. Senior producer Owen O'Brien explains that it's not fanciful futuristic sci-fi. "It's a city that doesn't exist, but it's a contemporary city," he says. "We've taken things that are happening in the world - social, architectural, political - and we've combined it all in one place."

I have been wanting to see a game take the first person perspective to new places for a very long time now. Lets hope the controls and gameplay are spot on. These two factors will make or break the game.

M-E does look like something spectacular in the making... But I feel it will get overlooked for lack of traditional action!

The back of the cover and the commercial will show great graphics and gunplay, which will make some buy it, but when they play the game and see it is something different, some will like it, others will bad mouth it to would be buyers. Overall, this game will face the same fate as Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from butcher bay...overlooked and ignored!

Infernus6503d ago

The latest trailer shows some action, a bit of gun stealing, running up a wall and taking someone out. It does look good but I don't know if it's got enough going for it to make it worth buying though and that's the only problem I have with it, honestly.

It's a cool new take on the first person genre but does it have enough of a pull to get people to buy it?

As long as I like it, that's all that matters to me. We'll see how it turns out.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken500d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn500d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb500d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno500d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex499d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

Bioshock still looks fantastic, one of my all time favorites.

Yui_Suzumiya1200d ago

Beyond: Two Souls on PS3 can compete with modern day graphics.

SonyStyled1200d ago (Edited 1200d ago )

Same as Killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3

jasonismoney1200d ago

I wish this was entirely true, but you might want to load up Killzone 2 and Resistance 3 again.

SonyStyled1200d ago

@jason I watched some gameplay videos of KZ2 and R3 on my full screen. They are on par or succeed graphically to the first person shooters mentioned in the article that also launched on the seventh generation of consoles. Try the same and see what you think

cthulhucultist1199d ago

Killzone 3 was super impressive! I could not believe the graphics back then as I was regularly pausing the game to stand in awe looking at the surroundings! Resistance however did not impress me that much. Heavy rain is also another amazing graphically speaking game. It almost felt next gen

Fist4achin1200d ago

I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.

SonyStyled1200d ago

They did for their day. I recently played gears judgement with on the 360 and the draw distance was so blurry. The characters up close look great though

JEECE1200d ago

Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.

iNcRiMiNaTi1200d ago

It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good

JEECE1200d ago

In terms of art style it still holds up.
