Its great but not worth the money

crazychris41244069d ago

Tell me about it. 4K rig I would love to build would set me back $4k. I can obviously build one for a lot less but it wouldnt meet some of the requirements I need out of a PC. Plus with all of the new tech coming out like Intel's skylake, DX 12 and much more I'm just gonna wait till next year, probably 2016 black friday/ cyber Monday for some great deals.

As of today if you want to enjoy 4k gaming you will need a GPU with atleast 6GB of VRAM. Which would mean a GTX Titan or GTX Titan X.

Yes its expensive but it looks amazing. I personally have GTX Titan X in SLI. I have a 3440 x 1440 monitor its not 4k. Its about 5M pixles where 4k is 8M pixles.

Usually when a game is not demanding enough i use DSR, which gets resolutions upto 6880 x 2880. I can say the games look amazing at that resolution.

Its the same arguement people were having 7-8 years back 720p VS 1080p. Today everyone wants 1080p.

I would think at least on PC 4k becomes mainstream in the next 2-3 years. On console i would think it would take PS6 to make that happen.

@edmix

I would strongly recommend 1440p. 1440p is quite a step up from 1080p. Its about 3.6M pixles which is about double the res from 1080p, not a bad upgrade at all.

Agreed and agreed. I'm just seeking about $1300 or so for my next build. Not even wasting time with 4K for a while.

Bimkoblerutso4068d ago

4k does look good on a computer monitor because you're sitting so close to the screen. I think people need to be aware, though, that in most instances 4k is barely discernible from 1080p content.

Unless I'm smack dab in front of whatever screen I'm using, I can really tell very little difference. Certainly not enough difference to pay the entry fee at this point.

Apollosupreme4068d ago (Edited 4068d ago )

Edmix, I built something earlier in the year for around $1, 300 with the intent of having a machine which could put out Ultra settings at 1080, looking much better and running better than consoles for quite some time. It will take a while for 4k gaming to take the world by storm and by that time there will actually be value in such an investment. No point in getting in now but if you're building you want to make sure you have something that can be upgraded to 4k later.

I think it goes without saying. No one can deny 4K would be incredible. But right now why would spend the money required to run at 4K??
My rig is worth near 3k but is at 1440p. I'd need to trade in my 970s for 980s or titan x. There's another 1000 euro added on. I'm happy with 1440p for now.

iistuii4068d ago

1440 looks great, I was lucky to play the witcher 3 on my friends PC. Going back to my PS4 version is cruel. It looks great, but I noticed the smooth 60fps more.

_-EDMIX-_4068d ago

Agreed. Well if your running things on all high, your getting a pretty incredible experience already. I tend to never mind how much other PC gamers are spending or running on their rigs, its like.....well you don't have a GPU like those workstations at NASA or a supercomputer in Japan lol

Who cares? Someone will always have some beast PC doing some crazy numbers. From what I've experienced on PC, some of the settings are not even worth it. The differences are so small, that a some point for 1 quality setting above, its like $1k more lol.

For me to spend that much, it better look like damn near real life! I'm already looking to spend $1300 to $1400 on my next build too.

ninsigma4068d ago

I agree sometimes the cost of a rig is not worth the benefit.

The reason mine cost so much is because it is my very first PC so I was starting from scratch. I also wanted to have it future proof so I went with the x99 chipset and DDR4 which are quite expensive at the moment.

It's all down to what benefits do you think are worth what cost. Different for everyone.

freshslicepizza4068d ago

why would you spend the money going to 4k? i guess the easy answer is because you can. why spend 10,000 on a set of home speakers? same thing.

currently i don't think 4k is there yet that makes the upgrade very feasible. they had 3 gtx 980 cards and still could not run the witcher 3 at ultra settings and get 60 frames at 4k. even home theater set-up's for movies isn't there yet for 4k. what content is available at 4k? not much.

ninsigma4068d ago

Well that's what I mean. It's not overly viable yet and the money it costs isn't really worth it if you're doing it to play the newest and biggest games at 4k.

Lennoxb634068d ago

That's like asking an average joe, "how cool are designer clothes?"

zsquaresoff4068d ago

Im sure its enjoyable for those who can afford it. Im happy with my 1080p's, for now.

The actor who portrayed Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher series of games has died

Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor probably best known for starring in British comedy drama Monarch of the Glen - but known to me for being the hilariously foul-mouthed dwarf Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 - has died aged 81.

Cause they play NBA2k26, COD and gamepass

Fishy Fingers114d ago (Edited 114d ago )

3x less sales than Playstation.
3x less consoles sold than Playstation.

Per captita, it averages out that the same number of users are buying CDP games regardless of platform, no?

Bathyj114d ago

The exact same or possibly more because a series S, initial investment and effort to Port to Xbox consoles for a third of the return.

Simply not worth it

LMGk113d ago

“ Simply not worth it”

And yet, basically every game comes to Xbox.

NotoriousWhiz113d ago (Edited 113d ago )

A third is a pretty big number to be honest. Like would you rather make 15 million or 20 million? That's the difference that a third makes.

Hey it’s ok. They are really impressed with XBOx’s new CEO so exclusivity is on the way. 😂

Loktai114d ago

Ok but I mean be logical ... modern PC, Switch, PS4 PS5 then you have XBOX, of all of those XBOX is probably only 10 percent... I mean, what do you expect? 10 percent increase in sales is still nothing to sneeze at, remember - this is CD projekt red and they sell a lot of software. 10 percent of their sales is probably what most studios DREAM of selling .... just playing devils advocate..... its easy to say LOL haha XBOX.... but.. I mean we know what it is at this point. I havent bought on since my xbox one X and before that I only used other peoples xboxes since the OG XBOX and stick with PC and Playstation and switch OLED, but .. I mean.... theres nothing WRONG with an xbox considering its just not the best - but they work fine. make no mistake.
