How come everyone points at the installation of the games on the ps3. Its game after game it feels, but the games flow pretty well after the installations. I rather that than disc swaps anyway

The reason stories like this get approved is because the only stories people check out in the pending section are those that they're interested in. And the only thing people are interested in are flame bait articles and console war points. There will be a lot of stories submitted here that aren't very interesting, but at least they actually make sense.

If there is a game install that long for Bioshock, I'll just do something else while it's installing. A lot of people make PS3 installs seems more serious than they actually are. While a game is installing you could be on N4G checking gaming news, checking email, make a sandwich or run out to the store and get some snacks for gaming.

Personally I would rather have 1 initial game install and shorter load times than a game with no install and long load screens throughout the game.

But, when it comes to a 20+ minute game install for a game like Bioshock, it sounds a litte too excessive to me. Bioshock had better be taking advantage of the PS3's hardware or Blu-ray capabilities because if not, a 20+ minute install for Bioshock is ridiculous.

The install is only 5 minutes. Some people are just unable to tell time. They somehow find 5 hour installs more believable than 5 minute ones. Either that or 5 minute installs won't generate enough hits.

Still why install? Would not be better to use 16gigas of ram instead 512 megas(PS3/Xbox360) and a 20 times faster DVD(Xbox360) or 10x blu ray drive(PS3) ???

The answer is YES,these games high end today from the PC,Xbox360 and PS3 would load so fast,as fast as a cartridge of the 8/16 bit era.The problem is that ram memory huge in size and speed or a cd drive can be hellllll more expensive then a 5400rpm HDD.

Sony's pie in the sky claims of reaching 150 million units are dismal, and almost sad.

Sony's "Playstation 3" phenomenon, as well as Blu Ray will be lucky to even reach HALF OF THAT.....

Here's why....
Star Ocean 4 Last Hope is *PERMANENTLY* exclusive to Xbox360 now, in Japan especially along with Infinite Undiscovery. Of course, a spinoff of the game will one day come to the ps3 down the line but that doesn't mean much. What consumers see in Japan is STAR OCEAN, INFINITE UNDISCOVERY, new RPGs and events exclusive to 360.

Granted, this will not mean entirely all that much since the Xbox360 will push its way up in Japan but not at a fast rate...it will EASILY meet 1 million sales in japan despite being last.

Playstation 3, will on the other hand stay selling as it has......MORE THAN TWICE AS BAD as its predecessors, in Japan. Where Nintendo Wii will DOMINATE the Japanese market with literally over 10 million units sold and climbing. They're half way already, PS3 has absolutely NOTHING in japan that will get the market to grab it since dragon quest and the like literally moved to the handhelds.

Further, the HD GAMING market in JAPAN is not ever going to take off into the obscene popularity of the DS, ps1, etc. It DOES NOT interest the Japanese game media enough, as much as handhelds and ipods do. Don't be surprised when there is NEVER a repeat of the ps1 success there.

And now to the main point of the contention......Sony "CLAIMS" it will reach 150 million sales when that is entirely impossible, given that they no longer have GRAND THEFT AUTO exclusive nor the trade-mark casual games everywhere.....The Nintendo Wii does, at under $200 and more significantly the Nintendo Wii cornered the casual game market with no trouble that the ps2 dominated last time.

Further, compared to the Wii, PS2 or DS....the PS3 has NO compelling software exclusives that make over $350 a worthy investment. Its "FINAL" must have title metal gear solid, is not must-have enough to drive it to win in europe apparently. Metal Gear is not even selling as much as Call of Duty, perhaps as expected. Splinter Cell will also release for 360 only long before PS3 is even mentioned, and should literally sell twice as fast in Europe. Grand Theft Auto and Gears of War bundles, should literally fly off the shelves once the 360 puts them in packages.

Meanwhile, the Wii will continue to destroy and DOMINATE europe because it has the casual market. I see 360 getting barely a SLICE of the wii's casual empire, and PS3 taking barely a sliver. Further Singstar is not anywhere NEAR as popular as WII's new motion games, and anyone daring to say such is delusional.

After all is said and done and Halo 4, the next Gears, the next Perfect Dark, and the next Killer Instinct number 3, the 360 will naturally be crowned the champion in Europe and "LIPS" as well as Rock Band 2 should do mass sales across europe. The Wii will always stay ahead, but between the 360 and PS3, the 360 will likely at the very end take the second spot entirely.

And as everyone in the world knows, now with Final Fantasy multi, Grand Theft Auto multi, and Halo Blue as well as the casual games + Xbox Live & Call of Duty, Xbox360 will completely dominate its home market of North America & even sometimes surpass the Wii. Though this will take a long time and price reductions, the 360 will even run away with some of the Wii's North American audience.

The remaining "PS1"crowd look to literally jump to the 360 by default, since they have all the same games like Resident Evil & Final Fantasy as well as Half Life EP:3 and exclusives. Plus any first party games from Halo Blue onward. The "PLAYSTATION 3" and its first party games, are not inspiring enough, nor worthy enough(yet) for anyone including Blu Ray fanatics to justify buying the PS3 in gigantic numbers. In EITHER the market of Europe, or North America, its largest markets.

Blu Ray NEVER took off, and it will NOT take off to dominate. It will do barely alright while Flash Drives, and future drives better than Blu Ray will come out that eventually take 40% of the movies market away from DVD. If they are lucky because DVD will take another 10 years to achieve market saturation. DVD is so popular, that that's all people need, besides VHS and other old junk. Further, Digital Distribution will NEVER be as popular as Flash Drives, the optical media which surpasses Blu Ray, or IBM's new cards. Bank on it!

Suck it up Sony and ready yourselves for the Playstation 4, because the war is JUST about over for you. Next time might be more important.

I don't mind installs, you don't have 10 minutes to spare in your precious life. If I had a 360 I would lose 20 minutes a day just transfering my account from my PS3(360) in the livingroom to when I want to play on one of the PS3(360) in the back room..See you can't have 2 360's with the same account which sucks because it takes 20 minutes to download and retreave your account. On my PS3 all I have to do is turn it on and sign in and whoala playing cod4 in 2 minutes. 360 fanboys are blind and paying for a service that should be free and it's just a way for M$ to charge $700 for a 360.....

...last time I installed Sims 2 off CD it took about 30 mins. Installs are necessary for improved loading/caching during the game.

Although I would like the choice of being able to install I'm not going to cry a river over not being able to.

One thing developers can do to cut back load times without install is to repeat the data multiple times on the disc. Most games one blue ray don't come close to filling up the 25gigs, so lets say you have a 8gig game on a bluray, just repeat the data 3 times over and then the system will have multiple sources to load from instaed of having to search through for 1 instance of the file.

This ps3 installs are crap. I hate them, having to install bioshock wtf... stuck it in the tray on 360 and bam was playing... why can't my ps3 do this? hate these things as running out of space on my drive. Just utter utter crap.

bluray tansfers at 8 megs per second on the low end. so that would be a min of 11.5 gigs on yor HD. I think not!

Also not all HD speeds are the same. My 320gig is much faster then the stock HD.

Big whoop GT5 prologue took over an hour on my PS3 to install and it's the biggest game on the PS3 in terms of required space ~5.5GB. I have had PC games that have neared the 2hr mark so 24mins is no big deal at all

Regardless how long it takes (more like 5 minutes and 24 seconds) the game is going to be awesome. I already beat it on the 360, but I will probably give it a rent on the PS3 and see how it plays out on there. I think it may be finally time to get a new controller with Dual Shock.

Reason they annoy me is i have 3 people in my household who use the ps3 and so i can't delete there games can i?? It all takes space. I f i wanted installs i would have brought a pc and also i could install games on my original xbox (it was chipped) and i never used it.. you know why ? cause its a console not a fricken pc.
So know i wont be using installs on the 360 because space is at a premium and the benifit isnt really that much. But at least its an option for those who want it. Unlike the ps3,, say what you want but mandatory installs on ps3 are a bad idea and the only ones who think otherwise are blind sony fan boys.
