PSLS Hands-On: Super Stardust Portable

Super Stardust Portable hands-on by PSLS:

"Being a well known fan of Super Stardust HD, you can imagine my excitement when I noticed that there would be an iteration coming to the PSP. I searched the showroom floor and was disappointed not to find it down there. Fortunately, I was able to get a chance to play it in the "Exclusive" Sony Room..."

But why would I want to buy this game again when I already bought the better version?

UnSelf6518d ago

its for those who did the opposite.

1 - This game looks good.
But why would I want to buy this game again when I already bought the better version?

what? there are currently 37 million PSP owners and 14 million PS3 owners... it makes sense to make a PSP version. also, those that play the PSP version may well want to play it on the PS3 (when they buy it) and those who play the PS3 version now have another incentive to buy a PSP

ThanatosDMC6518d ago

But chances are though that most of that 37 million people will download it illegally.

Is this something like geometry wars with better graphics?

UnSelf6518d ago

Dont be foolish

but to answer ur question...i guess yea, u can say the 2 are alike. Its just this is much more fun and robust wit a lot of different modes and trophy support. Try the demo on the PSN

The closest game to geometry wars on the ps3 is Everyday Shooter, which revolves around learning the chaining systems and "tricks" in order to either survive or build up that score.

Super stardust relies more on your decision making in what weapon type to choose and pure dodging skills. Whereas most of everyday shooter and geometry wars levels revolve around specific chains, Super Stardust has you fighting the physics and elements of each planet. Yes there are bosses in Super stardust and yes some of the bosses carry specific patterned movements. The only difference is that 90% of the time your in pure chaos.

PS Plus Premium Game Super Stardust Portable Receives Trophy Support

Super Stardust Portable on PS Plus Premium now features full Trophy support!

MrNinosan1216d ago

Amazing. Time to get back and grab that Platinum before Hogwarts, PSVR2 and Octopath Traveler 2 will steal all the time.

darthv721216d ago

I own this on my PSP and Vita. I did not see it in the article but will those versions get a patch for trophies as well?

MrNinosan1216d ago

It was never released on Vita, and PSP doesn't have trophies.
So no, the PSP versions won't get trophies.

PS3 version already had it.
VR had it.
Now "PS4 and PS5" have it.

darthv721215d ago

Just like the PS4/5, you can play this PSP version on the Vita. So I dont see how it too can't have trophy support. I was playing it on my Vita [tv] last night seeing as i could not play delta (too many touch specific options). Now i did also try it on my PS5 and noticed it looked more polished than on my Vita so it may be that the game was completely rebuilt for the tv experience.

On my vita tv it looked rather grainy but then again that was running at 720p on my tv unlike when i play it on the actual vita oled screen (looks more natural). The 5 version was very clean and vibrant.

This game could really use twin-stick support. On PS Vita, you were able to map the face buttons to the right stick... can't seem to find a way to do this on PS5. Anyone have any luck?

darthv721215d ago

I like that the vita has that option. It does suck that trying to do the same on the DS4/5 controller results in nothing. I like how it looks cleaned up on the 5 though, but I will stick to playing on my vita with that added right stick acting as the face buttons.

Remember when the PS3 launched? It didn't have trophies at all. Trophy support was added in soon after launch. SO adding it to games is not unheard of.

GamesRadar: Super Stardust Portable Review

Action is intense as you navigate your tiny ship through screens filled with asteroids and other nuggets of multi-coloured debris and the PSP's screen is constantly full of dangers. In fact, this makes the game a rather tough nut to crack as it's all too easy to miss pieces of flotsam and get wiped out. Annoyingly, Sony chose to make three modes (Endless, Survival and Bomber) available as premium DLC, so for the full package you have to fork out an extra few bucks. Not bad, but not essential.
