My experience with the new demo is fairly positive it's a huge improvement over the base game however theres now a ton of stky that wasn't there before and is unskipable this hurts it significantly.

Layoffs are always sad but in this case, it makes sense? They've only developed two games of their own and their third is a remake of the first that's been taking a very long time. I can't imagine there's much revenue flowing in to sustain them

Well, they're also dipping their toes into publishing.

It's sad, I was hoping they'd be super successful with how fun Yooka-Laylee was despite being rough around the edges. However they did only 2 games and the 3rd game is a remake, I was kind of expecting a proper Yooka-Laylee 2 by now.

I wish they were allowed to make Banjo-Threeie

Yea, there was really no need to remake Yooka-Laylee again. They should have saved the new graphical fidelity on a sequel and I maybe would have been a day 1 purchaser if the game was $30 or 40 tops. With a remake, I'll just wait for a sale.
