In the grand scheme of gaming history, the Sega Dreamcast was barely a blip on the radar. Sega's ill–fated console was never the most popular system on the market, and was only officially on store shelves for about a year-and-a-half. Even so, the Dreamcast produced a small number of gaming gems that many of today's fervent gamers might not be familiar with. Now is the time to resurrect these franchises.

Sega's hardware went further leaps and bounds than most people would have expected. Even in today's market.
"In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if SegaNet inspired Microsoft to do something with its Xbox Live network, which has easily grown into something on its own over the years."
It did—down to having to pay for a subscription and... Horse Armor DLC!!! 😱🤯💀. In fact, people that worked on SegaNet went on to work on Live before it was released.
SegaNet was the Demon's Souls to Live's Dark Souls—while the Sega Channel was King's Field.
It was an amazing piece of tech.. the vast majority of the games were arcade and it’s what hurt it.
I loved those games but the PS2 was just on another level, especially with Square, Rockstar and Konami exclusives and obviously GT3.
By the time the Dreamcast was canned in Japan in 2001, it'd only been out less than 2 years in Europe and the US. Turning back the clock, it should've been packaged without the dial up modem to keep the cost down, I don't think the broadband modem was released in Europe. At the last minute, SEGA canned the DVD format, although that might've bumped up the price.. With this, sticking to black casing as with previous consoles and lastly, a better controller would've bagged more sales. Dreamcast probably wouldn't have hit PS2 numbers, but when it died, it was the biggest shock in gaming history. SEGA have never really recovered.

Gary Green said: Man, what a game. I remember it like it was yesterday; The epic that was Skies of Arcadia revealed for the Dreamcast. It was the triumphant and long overdue return of Sega's in-house JRPGs, and a very welcome successor after the gradual phasing out of the Shining series. We had this huge, fresh aerial world to explore and a pirate-themed narrative. Those that invested in the ill-fated Dreamcast usually had the sky-faring masterpiece at the top of their favourites list, and with good reason.
Skies of Arcadia 1 and 2 is truly an awesome series of games. I hope that Sega remasters them some day. I would love for a physical full-fat release with all the extras from development to give new players a chance to become fans of the series. Thanks for doing a new review to shine some light on this wonderful lost gem.
Can still hear Vyse screaming Piraaaate Wraaaaaathhh! attack or how awesome it was to summon all of the Blue Rogues.
Such a great RPG I hope Sega does spit and a shine and show this game some love.
Part of the reason I still have a Wii floating around the TV in my room is to play Skies of Arcadia. Sega really needs to do something with the IP.

Today BAFTA has announced SEGA’s open-world action-adventure title Shenmue (1999) as the Most Influential Video Game of All Time, receiving the most votes in a public poll.
How does Street Fighter 2 not break the top 21? Literally spearheaded a litany of clones for years and cemented a genre that continues to be relevant to this day. Some were such a blatant rip off that it led to lawsuits (See Fighters History).
Also I agree that BG3 is one of the greatest games of all time and the game with the most depth that I have ever experienced. In fact, it’s probably my favorite game of all time. That said, I have not seen its influence on the industry yet because there is nothing that’s been introduced that is truly comparable to the breadth of the experience imo. I anticipate and hope that it will become one of the most influential games of all-time because playing it has spoiled me.
I don't get it I just played the first game on the ps4 about six months ago and for its time it was probably well regarded for bringing a cinematic feel to gaming but I feel like there were far more engaging RPG's and titles that deserve it more.
For example I find Doom is likely the most influential game of all time for shooters, Mario for platformers the list goes on.
I'm not saying shenmue doesn't deserve praise just was it honestly that good there's a ton of moments in the game where you have to sit the controller down and walk away from the game for an hour for the in game clock to get to 8pm or something there's only so many times I can play space harrier as a distraction
Shouldn't the first shooter to use the standard dual analog control scheme be on the list? As far as I can tell that was Medal of Honor on the PS1 in 1999, although I'm open to correction if someone knows of an earlier game that had it (and no I don't count N64 games where you had to hold two controllers, haha). That control scheme, which was apparently far from obvious to devs at first, has become a default for essentially every 3D game that doesn't have a fixed camera (assuming you aren't using M/K).
SHENMUE!
Let's hope somebody is in the process of working with Sega to at bring the first 2 games to light on these consoles, because they're not going to do it by themselves. Now I know people complain about HD remasters this gen, but a Shenmue HD Collection should be welcomed by anyone's standards.
The latest rumour is that Sony and Sega are working together on an exclusive project that could be revealed this year. http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
"Another unnamed IP which is coming to Playstation exclusively from Sega should hopefully be announced next year. It's had teething issues which seems to be making it take longer than I thought, as have most other projects on current gen to be fair from the looks of it, but I'm happy to mention it again because it looks like we might finally get an announcement next year. I'm hoping at least. This one's not a fighting game."
Would be a dream(cast) come true if this project is indeed Shenmue.
I liked Skies of Arcadia so much that I named my cat Vyse. The old bugger is still with me.
An HD remake on the Vita would be awesome.
I would absolutely LOVE a Power Stone 3! It's seriously one of the most fun games to play if you get a group of people together.
Don't mention the Dreamcast , mine got robbed in a house burglary when they was going strong , and it was chipped! 😿
Shenmue 3. Need an ending!
