What happens after those 500GB fill up? It can be messy...

"A buddy of mine pointed out to me that his Xbox One can enjoy the luxury of plug-and-play with up to a 5TB external drive" - 16Tb max

I don't understand how anyone can complain about storage space. Surely if you have 500Gb of games there's a couple on there that you haven't played in a while, or most likely will never play again? Delete those games, just enough to make room for the new game. Whether you own the disk or bought digitally, the game can be re downloaded.

I play a new release or two a month, plus a few smaller download titles, plus games with gold that I havn't played yet and I'm at 30%... and that includes Halo:MCC.

boyscout2994030d ago

Kiwi, you'd be surprised how many games I visit and revisit :)
I know I'm in a niche category here, but for me, downloading and reinstalling isn't that simple. I still have crappy internet that is about 1 mbps best (rural America for the win...)
Meaning? If I uninstall a game with several gigs of updates *cough* Destiny *cough* it'll take me the better part of an entire day just to be able to play it again. Again, I know I'm in a very small affected group here, but that's my personal issue with it all.
Not to mention, I enjoy the ease of tossing a disc in the tray and playing when I get the itch. Previous generations never required us to wait to play, and it's kinda unfair that we're still paying out money for the products, yet without the same level of accessibility as before.
So although the "suck it up and deal with it" argument is there, it's also one we shouldn't have to deal with. I didn't shuck out $400 for a ps4 so I could just "suck it up and deal with" the major shortcoming that is small hdd space (or spending another $100+) to fix the issue that simply wasn't present in older consoles.

You know what I mean?

KiwiViper854030d ago

Ye man I get the complaints and they are all valid. It just boggles my mind that someone could have 500 Gb worth of games in constant rotation.

I am the extreme opposite from you, I put a disk in, complete 100%, eject disk, Trade in or Sell on Ebay, delete from harddrive, put next disk in.

I also lasted the entirety of last gen with a 0.5Gb Arcade 360, the concept of storage was foreign to me, and I only realised it when games with gold came out. So perhaps I'm feeling a bit spoiled for space at the moment, as a result of my ex-console.

boyscout2994030d ago

Oh, I totally get what you mean. Aside from game save files, I NEVER used my HDD for anything last gen. I never thought I'd fill 500 GB this time around, but boy was I wrong :P

And I do play some games like you do. The Order 1886 was one. I beat it the day after launch and had it in the mail to a buyer by the end of the week. Other games (MP like Battlefield, Destiny, etc) I'll revisit from time to time. I logged almost 150 hours into BF4 within about the first 9 months :P

OB1Biker4029d ago

One more reason to get retail copy instead of digital.
I delete games and when I want to play them again it takes just a few minutes to install them back and still have the saved files.

gamer78044030d ago

i had reached my max a month ago on my xbox one with only 5gb to spare left, so i couldn't install my latest retail game. I had already uninstalled 4 games that i don't want to play again.

Its nice to not have to reinstall a game and its updates every time you want to play it, it is a deterrent from playing a game you uninstalled again, which is why i uninstall games i know i won't ever play again.

So i got a 4TB external usb 3.0 drive. Its actually a bit faster on loading times than the internal since the internal on the ps4 and xbox one is sata2. This is a nice bonus, plus not having to worry about what games to uninstall.

Fro_xoxo4030d ago

"Storage wars" lol.

That jus' sounds ridiculous.

BrandanT4030d ago

I blame the mandatory disk installs.

Volkama4030d ago (Edited 4030d ago )

But those are a good thing. Seem to recall one prominent dev even highlighting it as the single best thing about these consoles from a dev perspective. Reading from a blu-ray is too slow. Even the crummy 5400rpm drives in the consoles are a lot faster, which is essential for things like open world games.

Having said that, why MS and Sony both made these consoles with mandatory installs and then shipped them with 500gb hard drives is anybody's guess. Cutting costs obviously, but when they're both trying to sell us games and movies you'd think it's in their best interest that we have room for more games and movies.

Why o why4029d ago

Im guessing after some point 1tb will be the smallest sku sold by both manufacturers. I know many say the price difference between 500 and 1tb hdds is minimal but there is still a difference and both manufacturers wanted to keep their prices as low as possible whilst keeping their profits as high as possible.

Hopefully a jump straight to 2 tb wont be too expensive by the time my current reaches its limit

kraenk124030d ago

those intstalls are quite a joy on PS4 though. No problem to just de- and reinstall games

zsquaresoff4030d ago (Edited 4030d ago )

Storage space can be easily managed if you just delete the games you havent played for some time, to make space for the game you will be playing.

I have 500gb of space on my Ps4 and have 9-10 games on with 200 gb still left.

Got 50gb ready for Witcher 3.

kraenk124030d ago

it sure is an easy thing if installs take that a short amount of time on the ps4.

n4rc4030d ago

my xbox storage is 3.5tb.. think i have 2.7tb free but have 20+ games

They for sure chose the worst way to deal with it

-Foxtrot17d ago

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose19d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE19d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername18d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy19d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde18d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8618d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8618d ago (Edited 18d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

pwnmaster300019d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle18d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
