In this week’s Start-up Spotlight, we’ll be focusing on Winterflame: The Other Side. Winterflame combines traditional elements of puzzle platformers with more modern and simple puzzles found in mobile games such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope to create a puzzle platformer that is as unique as it is beautiful. It takes everything enjoyable from mobile games and puts it into a highly polished PC game, using a serious physics engine for all of its puzzles. Along with that, the game is based off of a novel of Vandaria by the same name: Winterflame.

Joanna Mueller writes: "After only two “backer only” updates throughout the whole of 2016, Artoncode has finally (10 months later) come clean with backers about the state of the project. Namely, that quite unexpectedly, they have canceled the whole thing."

Vincent Baker writes: "Winterflame: The Other Side is a 2D adventure puzzle game being developed by Artoncode. I managed to have some time to sit down and play their demo that they have for download on their Kickstarter page. In Winterflame you play as Lev, a human incapable of using magic and thus an outcast that lives in the society of the Frameless, who are both responsible for the city’s destruction as well as saving him in the aftermath. Raised by a family of Frameless, Lev becomes friends with the family’s daughter, Raina. Their friendship becomes deep, until eventually she vanishes."
