Destiny, Is This The End?

Bungie the makers of Destiny has recently announced that the House of Wolves DLC will not include a new raid. Instead it will include Trails of Osiris which will be a PVP event and The Prison of Elders which will be the end game PVE event. Below is a small explanation of what you can find in the new expansion, and then my thoughts.

No Raid this time, but there will be another Raid released in a future expansion.

Halo2ODST24050d ago

I'm confused, the HOW picture for this article says "plus an exclusive raid", i thought we weren't getting one ???

Neonridr4050d ago

lol, good catch. But I believe that is an error. Bungie confirmed on their website that there was no raid to coincide with the release of the HoW expansion. The exclusive Raid may still release (Bungie confirmed they were releasing another raid in the future - not sure if that was exclusive or not), and it may be related to the HoW content but it will not be available May 19th.

z10n4050d ago

The problem that isn't an official bungie released image. They themselves stated that anything shown in that leaked image are subject to change. And I believe when they say they were humbled by our feedback of the current raids. they decided to pull the raid to add more to it and take more time to refine it as to avoid another crota atrocity.

JeffGUNZ4047d ago

The picture was months ago from Datamined information. It was never from Bungie, officially.

EvilWay4050d ago

Should have been a long time ago in my eyes. You people are literally playing for no reason. Most friends I have that still play it do not play pvp so idk what you are grinding for gear for, some please enlighten me.

You kill the same enemies over and over HOPING to get the item you want, after hours of doing the same thing over and over you still may not obtain the item......

Truly sad what this game turned out to be, though I am not suprised since we are talking about Activision. Destiny has the most potential out of any game I have ever played, a awesome scenery, great gunplay, and characters that could be built upon, if told a better story. That is the big thing the sequel needs to do is tell a way better story because that is what killed Destiny for me

zidane13414050d ago

Dude the grind isnt even that bad. Its a fun game. They are adding two new game modes so ppl need to chill.

Hereiamhereibe24049d ago

The grind is worse than any other game ever made, i worked my ass off in destiny day in and day out completing every nightfall, hard raid, 300 plus strikes, and hours of crucible. And not one time while playing this game have I acquired a gun i was happy to have. Bought the season pass but i really cant see myself turning this game on again, besides Evolve is better.

Crimzon4050d ago

I think so many people are still playing the game because good gameplay is more important than story to them.

rawrock4050d ago

I am tired of people complaining about Destinys story when games like Bloodborne have a terrible story as well and get a total pass on it...

Eiyuuou4050d ago

You don't have a lot of experience with From Software games, do you?

darren_poolies4050d ago

"when games like Bloodborne have a terrible story"

Have clearly never even played it them.

Baka-akaB4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

See , you may not like the story in BB , or how it's told , but it's actually there , with tons of layers and hidden stuff that people are still discovering to this day .

You can search all you want in Destiny (which i happen to like) , it's not there ... it's within collectible cards in an app that they couldnt even bother to integrate to the game

Giru0174050d ago

Ummmm, what? Did we play the same game?

kayoss4050d ago

@giru017
No, you guys didnt play the same game. Obviously he never played the game so you cant really ask him that question.

aLucidMind4050d ago

Maybe nobody would complain about Destiny's story (or lack of one) had it not been advertised to have this intricate and fully fleshed out story, only to be met with "I have plans for you" and "I could tell you what happened, but I won't" being the only two things this game does in terms of narrative.

EveryPlatformGamer4050d ago

agreed what annoys the hell out of me is that some of the story missions are so awesome to play through, yet once you play through them once there is literally no point what soever to play them ever again!

Why cant the story missions when played on harder difficulty also award the player with random loot, vanguard drops, coins, ascendant shards etc?
Its bull thats why!

Seriously we should at least be able to play through some of the story missions with better rewards but they essentially are useless once played through for the first time with each character.

I think if they added modified story missions into strikes then the repetitiveness wouldn't be so bad, all they have to do is cut out all the cut scenes or allow us to skip them.

Either way i love destiny it is addictive as hell, and is one of the best 30fps shooters i have ever played.
The mechanics are just so tight, but playing halo master chief at 60fps has me convinced that destiny could of ran 60fps on consoles but because of last gen we were given a gimped version.
Regardless the story is terrible.

SonofGod4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

Bungie has never made a bad game before, and the moment they start working for Activision Bungie releases a mediocre game where the only reason to actually play it is to grind for gear. That can't be a coincidence.

Destiny also has overly expensive dlc, that could might as well be in the game from the start. Wouldn't surprise me if Activision forced Bungie to take content out of the game to sell them as dlc.

_FantasmA_4050d ago

LOL Bungie's made plenty of bad games. Halo 2-4.

JeffGUNZ4047d ago

@ Fanstasma

Halo 4 was by 343.

brettyd4050d ago

It's alot of fun, thats why I play. Best PvP right now imo. Why do people on this site always feel the need to push their opinions on others? If you don't like the game keep it to yourself.

CorndogBurglar4050d ago

We're not playing for no reason. We're playing because its a fun co-op experience.

What you're saying is ridiculous. By your logic, everyone should stop playing Battlefield as soon as they unlock all the weapons, right? Whats the point after that? You dont have anything left to play for, right?

I get it. People don't like Destiny. Why is it so hard for YOU PEOPLE to accept that there are millions of fans that do like it though?

Kurt Russell4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

I'll play a bit, but I really regret paying £35 for it. I haven't recieved half the content I expected to at that price. I won't be doing that for another franchise ever again that's for sure.

z10n4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

You sure about that? Cuz a lot of COD dlc is about the same price as the destiny dlc but you get what? 3 maps and a zombies map in the COD dlc, in the destiny ones you get a raid or some sort of pve endgame, 3 or 4 multiplayer maps, a new strike or 2 depending on console, new bounties and story missions, a bunch of new weapons and armor, sometimes hundreds of hours of more play time, definitely worth it more than most other games

Kurt Russell4047d ago

COD might have less, but that doesn't mean Destiny has enough. Both are over priced for the content received. I really want to love Destiny, because the mechanics are flawless... but even with the DLC is really is lacking content.

Baka-akaB4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

Co-Op is its own reward and reason by itself , so it wasnt for nothing and i dont regret one minute of it . We didnt care that much about the grind , we were mostly having fun in co-op action within a game with tight gameplay and mechanics .

It's just that after so long , not enough content has been released for me and my friends to continue . Especially at those prices , and when other good games came along or are coming along

iSuperSaiyanGod4050d ago

I gues "playing for no reason" mean nobody plays to enjoy the game . A lot of people actually like the game . Hell way more fun then the order was ..

Neonridr4050d ago

I've gotten to the point now where I want triplicates of all my popular guns so each guardian can have their own set. You think getting Gjallarhorn or Hawkmoon is hard enough on one character, well let's try getting 3 of each.. ;)

I do question why I still play, but doing the raids are still pretty fun and you meet some cool people as well.

Owvi4050d ago

Perhaps people have different tastes in games than you? Enjoy playing with friends? Enjoy the gameplay mechanics? Either way, why should it matter to you?

ninsigma4050d ago

But are raids not being released as free updates to the game?? That was my understanding. The first certainly was anyway. So if that's still the case why would they put a new one in a paid for dlc?? That would be worse imo.

JeffGUNZ4047d ago

No. They said a raid will be released sometime this year. With Comet coming out in September (which won't be officially announced till after HoW), that will include a new raid. They clearly stated the HoW will not have a raid.

Drithe4050d ago

Know what I hate? Having to wait 5 months for new content when the content was already small to begin with. 90% of everyone on PS4 plays this game for the PVE aspect of it, not the pve. Yet they keep making cheap levels of the same of pvp stuff because it is easy and fast to do. They try to force you to run the Crucible because that is all there left to do.

Stories, adventures, and great epic battles are not easy to make. Oh well. Im still playing it until something else can pull me away from it.

martinezjesus19934050d ago

Apperantly not because 7 and half months after launch, everyone is still talking about it. Heck even the biggest gaming website, IGN, has a podcast centered around Destiny, how many games have accomplished that?

BiggerBoss4050d ago

I agree. Say what you want about Destiny, but the fact that people are still talking about it and playing it is admirable.

Mehmeh4050d ago

Depends on which reasons ppl still talk about it.

I fell like the game is alright enough for what it is, but not for what it pretended to be.

Like the story was such a letdown at least storytelling wise, failing to get my attention at all, be it small or big events. Ie when your killing the "god" in the last story mission(pre dlc), it is supposed to be something major, yet the game makes it feel like just another generic kill this thing.

Bounties generic and boring, same goes for public events. Even though the public events was quite fun the first time they happened.

VoG was the highlight, really enjoyed it the first times, before starting to grind it.

PvP was alright, nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing less either.

Gameplay and feel was awesome! (The only reason i think I played it so long)

The first DLC was imo bad.
They continued the bad storytelling(Possibly making it worse). Like except a small trailer there was no intro to Erys and her character. She just suddenly stood there in the tower. Starting a new quest line of whopping 3-4 quests, which in turn was as generic as the original ones.

CE was really bland in comparison to VoG.

My mates and I got the items we wanted quite fast after grinding the raids. After grinding out VoG we started to grind all other thing in the game, but it lost our interest quite fast since we were maxed, nothing to really grind for, and nothing to do. Then the same thing happened after CE, except this time the gap was much longer(maybe it wasn't like if u count the dates, but since u had to go 1-30 in original that took quite a bit longer than 30-32). And week by week the game looked more and more bland, up until we all just quit one by one, realising there was nothing to do.

And i was hoping the next DLC would bring something good, but im hesitant.

I think Destiny has lost a lot of core players during this content gap, and im not sure if they'll get em back. Not until Destiny 2, post review.

Microsoft bought all of Zenimax Media for 7 billion, while Sony paid 4 billion for Bungie. I think Microsoft got the better deal due to acquiring Fallout, ElderScrolls and Doom.

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_623d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince1981623d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension140623d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy85623d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj623d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman623d ago (Edited 623d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake623d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg623d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot07623d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

Knightofelemia623d ago

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom623d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac623d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake623d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark623d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde623d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand125623d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.
