No Zelda in 2015 means bad news for Nintendo

If Nintendo could pull out Starfox and make that game as big and grand as Zelda that may be the blockbuster it would need.

And I mean a huge Starfox game with a combination of space dogfighting, on rails arcade action and planet exploring. That should be the next Starfox game IMO.

rdgneoz34063d ago

A new starfox would be sweet, but I think we've seen less of that than we have of Zelda.

maniacmayhem4063d ago

Well Miyamoto did say Starfox would be out before Zelda.

And since Zelda has been delayed it should only mean that Starfox would be the next game in line to be shown off.

That could be a big reveal at E3, Starfox gameplay.

3-4-54063d ago

uhh this literally doesn't effect Nintendo at all.

The people who were buying that game are going to buy it.....but now it's going to be even better, which will get even more people to buy it.

TheDivine4062d ago (Edited 4062d ago )

Star fox hasn't been a blockbuster for 20 years. Its not relevant outside of a few nostalgic Nintendo fans (being honest as a Starfox fan back in the day). Nobody cares about it and the genre is relegated to 10 dollar digital download games.

Nintendo has dropped the ball worse than they ever have with the WiiU. There are no games period. At least the N64 had timeless masterpieces that defined, hell created the genre with Mario 64, OOT, and Goldeneye. WiiU has more of the same but its lacking the magic. For me Bayanetta 2 is the only game worth buying the system for. Then there's a couple good games that I'd never play because I'd rather play Bloodbourne or The Witcher or two dozen other titles before them. Two big releases a year doesn't cut it especially if your not the type of gamer to count days off the calendar unto Yarn Yoshi or MK8.

They are stale boring and deliver 1/100 of the games and variety of the competition minus all of the standard features. This is the reality of the WiiU. Not to say I'm not fu**ing pumped for Xenoblade X or the new WiiU Persona (SMT x FE) because I am. Just nothing else. Not even Zelda excites me anymore. It's been stales bloated and tedious since Wind Waker. Metroid is MIA. No real Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, or Baten Kaitos. No third party exclusives. Its a dead system.

I'm a huge gamepad fan but the support just plain blows. The 3ds is the exact opposite. Best library ever. Go figure. Nin should ask devs to make console versions of the best handheld titles and problem solved.

Also anyone who though Zelda would release this year was a fool. They always delay the series and the game had zero actual footage outside of a horse riding demo in an empty world.

BrandanT4063d ago

There's still Zelda. Aonuma said the release isn't priority. Instead of working towards the release date, he thought it'll be best to work on making the game the best it possibly could be.

DHagen104063d ago

I know there is still Zelda. This benefits the game itself but is bad for Nintendo for 2015.

miyamoto4063d ago

Don't waste your time trying to have a sensible discussion with the commenters here. They are so out of touch with the times like Nintendo Corp. Like Nintendo Kyoto, they don't know what is good for themselves.
They are so blinded by the Mario brand they can not see true potential.
Where is Iwata's promise of keeping up with the hardcore hobby gamers?
Its 2015 and where is a full production AAA sci-fi Metroid Prime FPS?
Where is that kick ass Zelda tech demo they showed last E3 2011?
Where? Nowhere in the horizon. Not even a hint.
Instead they say "we are not targeting children enough".
So they make a cartoony shooter Splatoon and a cartoony Zelda game.

Nintendo has abandoned the NES, SNES, N64, era gamers to make a quick buck from the casuals and soccer moms still.
What a disappointment.

ChickeyCantor4063d ago

" They are so out of touch with the times like Nintendo Corp."

How many times did people declare Nintendo dead because X?

" Where is that kick ass Zelda tech demo they showed last E3 2011?
Where? Nowhere in the horizon. Not even a hint. "

TECH DEMO.

" So they make a cartoony shooter Splatoon and a cartoony Zelda game. "

Whoever bullied you, go find your solace.

" the casuals and soccer moms still. "

Yes, cause they obviously buy zelda. Just like they did with Wind waker. Obviously.

I'm going to pretend you're a troll, because your intelligence isn't showing anywhere.

tinkypop4063d ago

@miyamoto
Tech Demo, Everybody knows you never go full retard!!!!

deadpoolio3164063d ago

Soooooo then your clearly must be one of those people who had problems reading between the lines....Its been cancelled for the Wii U and development was moved to the NX that will be releasing NOV 2016....

BrandanT4063d ago

Isn't reading between the lines just speculation?

SnakePlissken4063d ago

Whats going on with this game? Release the dang thing already! Shouldve been ready when the WiiU released at launch. Getting sick of game delays all the time, and that goes for all of them!

MSBAUSTX4063d ago

Dude we had Windwaker HD and Hyrule Warriors with TONS of DLC. You got some LOZ love already and they were flawless releases without any bugs or lag. That is why Nintendo games are so gre ata. They dont release the title because goons like you tell them to. They wait until it is ready and at its best. Thank God Nintendo doesnt approach game making and releasing the way you want them to.

SnakePlissken4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

Windwaker? Already played that on the gamecube years ago, thats not a new title! Hyrule Warriors is Dynasty Warriors with Zelda characters, didnt like it and thought it was very weak.

People like you are the reason that weak games even get released. Youll accept whatever you can without any questioning, thats pretty ignorant.

Dont keep announcing false release dates then, getting peoples hopes up for nothing! F all that dlc too, you can have at it, and pay extra bucks for stuff that shoulddve been included in the first place.

Not all nintendo games are great either these days. Ive been gaming since the late 70s and you dont sound very smart about gaming. This is the new trend and kids like you fall for it. They had plenty of time to work on the game. Theres no excuse, period! Release it now!!!

AWBrawler4063d ago

i sincerely hope you're lying, Snake. I always assumed my fellow oldschool gamers were much more patient and understood delays a lot better than this. Its not so much announcing a fake date as it is announcing an estimated time, but complications, or in this case, new ideas arise, and they decide they need more time. what's wrong with that?

oh and by the way, I love musou games, and Hyrule Warriors is my favorite musou game to date!

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

it started development in 2011 smart

ChickeyCantor4063d ago

" Shouldve been ready when the WiiU released at launch."

Yeah, just like GTA5 did on PS4 and xbone. Let me get my magic wand and swing it around.

marloc_x4062d ago (Edited 4062d ago )

HELL YA!

Release it NOW..

..and PATCH it up as we play it!

THIS is the new trend Plissken!

*goes back to Web Wars on Vectrex*

SnakePlissken4061d ago

At least there were no downloading, dlc, updates, delays or any of this nonsense back then, and you still got quality games! I do understand we have to be patient and how much time and effort goes into a game these days. I get all that! Why even announce it so early, like we should all expect it within the year, then 2 years later youre still waiting and in some cases gets cancelled. Last Guardian sound familiar?

Vectrex haha, havent heard that one in awhile. Those overlay cards that fit over the screen were big for its time!

I prefer the Sega Master System myself, maybe some Alex Kidd or something. Trojan and Ghosts and Goblins on NES, maybe some BlackThorne on SNES afterwards lol.

TheDreamCorridor4063d ago

Like anything is even really gonna help Nintendo anyway.

Xof4063d ago

At this point, competent marketing and branding would be way more effective than any one--or any dozen--games.

GordonKnight4062d ago

I agree! They have a great line up of games for the Wii U.

Captain_Wormy4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

I'm actually hoping it comes out for NX.

poppinslops4063d ago

It won't... I know people who've bought Wii-Us just for Zelda (I was very close to doing so myself).

If that was taken from them, Nintendo would find themselves on the wrong end of a class-action lawsuit - one they would almost-certainly lose.

One day it'll be remastered for NX... say 2018/2019?

deadpoolio3164063d ago

Your aware the same thing happened with Twilight Princess right? Your delusional if you dont grasp the concept that Zelda on the Wii U was cancelled and will be a NOV 2016 launch title for the NX console......

The Wii U is a failure for them, they want to get away from it 10mil in 3 years is pathetic...The NX IS coming in Nov 2016

MSBAUSTX4063d ago

@Deadpoolio316

You do know that Twilight princess did still release for gamecube so that the owners of the gamecube that expected it to come out for it didnt get screwed right? You are a true doomsayer when it comes to nintendo. every encounter with you has been negative or just wrong the last couple of days. Why not leave the Nintendo forum if you have nothing good to say or contribute.

kurruptor4063d ago

You're an idiot. You can sue Nintendo if they don't release a particular game?

Well sure you can sue, anyone can, but 0% chance of winning.

poppinslops4063d ago

Sony got sued for lying about Killzone's resolution... false advertising is illegal.

Nintendo have marketed this entry as 'Zelda Wii-U'... it's been designed from the ground-up for (and shown running on) that specific console.
If they don't release it on Wii-U, it will be seen as a blatant ploy to sell a 'dead' console and they will get sued.

kurruptor4063d ago

Poppins, first of all like I said you can sue for anything, but they haven't won yet.

Secondly, that isn't the same thing. Sony's suit is because they potentially lied about a product that was sold to consumers. This isn't the same. This Zelda game doesn't exist yet and was never sold to anyone. Games get cancelled all the time before they are released. You have no right to that product.

poppinslops4063d ago

They're not gonna cancel it.

IF they 'failed' to release this Zelda on the Wii-U (which they won't), it would severely damage Nintendo's reputation... it would also constitute a breach-of-trust, for which they would get sued. A good lawyer with a list of legitimately 'grieved' clients (like my buddy Axl, with his game-less Wii-U and Tri-Force tattoo) would have 'em settling in no time.

Even if that wasn't the case, moving Zelda to the unknown quantity that is the 'NX' wouldn't be worth doing, financially... Zelda's big, but it's not going to suddenly sell millions of consoles.

Majora's Mask on N64 suffered in stores because it required you to double the console's RAM with a physical expansion pack... I still got it ('cause I'm a hardcore, die-hard Zelda fan), but a lot of people didn't play it until it's recent remaster.

Oh, and for the record - I have an IQ of 148.5... I'm no idiot.

hasamalaha4063d ago

Who cares what your IQ is. You're talking about something (the law) which apparently you don't know much about.

You cannot successfully sue a company because they cancelled a planned product. Do you realize how stupid that is? A law can't force a company to finish and release a product.

It happens everyday in every industry, no one gets sued. Show me where it has ever happened?

Do you know how many games have been announced and never came to light?

Can you sue Nintendo because they didn't release anything for the Virtual Boy? Can you sue Sega because they abandoned the Dreamcast? Can you sue Microsoft because they changed their mind about Kinect being a central part of the Xbone? No, no and no.

When you bought the WiiU, there are no guarantees of what games will be released.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

Nintendo filed a lawsuit in the United States Court of International Trade.

Nintendo of America is suing the United States government over the sweeping tariffs President Donald Trump put in place last year, according to a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. Court of International Trade and obtained by Aftermath.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer83d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot83d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno83d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay83d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno81d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK82d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
