Should We Still Support DLC?

EB: Like many of you, I have been getting sick and tired of all the downloadable content launched in our faces the second a big AAA game gets released into the big open world of gaming. Booting up that game for the first time and then instantly seeing some kind of store plastered on the main menu linking me to some new skins, side quests, or characters is very much something which I, like many, absolutely despise. Despite hearing so many cries from gamers everywhere, DLC is rife and the chances of publishers calling for it to be halted indefinitely are incredibly unlikely thanks to the insane amounts of cash it rakes in, but with that we surely must have some control over the crap that runs through stores as opposed to the good stuff right?

It really depends, if its a pretty complet game that you really love, and you just keep wishing for more and more content i see nothing wrong with DLC has long has it mantains quality and its not a pure cash grab.

HAMM3RofBUDDHA4060d ago

Agreed, has to add some sort of value, even if its cosmetic, at least to the buyer.

thekhurg4059d ago

I don't support day one DLC, nor any DLC that comes out within the launch window of a game (first couple months for me).

I also value the DLC based on the content and when it's being released to try and determine to myself if I think this was actually developed after the game released or during the development cycle and just delayed for a cash grab.

I'm cynical towards DLC and publisher greed, so I tend to think low of it in general.

ZombieKiller4059d ago

It went from some games having DLC to all games having it...or so it seems. So I'm approaching it this way:

There are games I can't resist: Arkham Knight, Metal Gear, GTA etc etc....those guys get the season pass. Can't help myself and don't care to.

For the rest, IF I buy the DLC I want to wait until I completed game first. I've got a ton of games to play this year so I'll approach it by first playing the game as much as I can/want. Once I get bored with the game OR once I come back to it, I'll support the DLC. Sometimes putting a game down before buying the DLC, or playing another game before the DLC can breathe new life into it once you return to it.
If a game is that good, honestly it shouldn't matter.

Persistantthug4059d ago

I have yet to buy any DLC.

I think many of them are just rip off schemes....not all of course, but many. In fact alot of them are planned at the planning stages, and all they do is basically decide what things they are gonna pull out of the game to try and sell you.
I'm gonna continue not buying DLC.

Retroman4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

Disagree . for 64.00 each game should be fully COMPLETED!! not half-ass done to manipulate more money out of our pockets . this why crap like this exist, gamer tolerate developers BS

the Question is .........why do we gamers buy DLC ??? after reading all the online complaints ........... i have nooooooooooooooooo clue why??

Does not matter whether we like it or not. We are buying DLC and the developers are making more $.

As a positive note, games are going on sale much more quickly vs being full price for 1-2 years, which was standard for many years. So, if you wait to buy you can get the DLC included or use the extra $ to buy the DLC, problem solved.

MilkMan4060d ago

If we talking Wither 3 type DLC then YES!
If we talking Mass Effect 2 and 3 type BS like color changes and stupid guns and who can ever forget Horse Armor (the one that started it all) then the answer is a resounding NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOO!

By the way, please be sure to tell us exactly what we get with season passes, crapfest like Max Payne season pass are basically a@@-rape in your pocket.

hiredhelp4060d ago

Give me the days of real expansion packs than DLC any day.

Feriku4060d ago

Is the main game, without DLC, worth the price it's sold at?

If the answer is yes, I have no problem with DLC, day-one or otherwise. I got my money's worth out of the game.

Now, is the DLC content worth the price IT'S sold at? That's even more subjective. I'm probably not going to spend money on a costume pack, but if someone else considers that worthwhile, fine. As long as the answer to the first question is "yes," I don't think DLC really harms anything.

The answers to both questions are subjective, so it's good to research a game and DLC before you buy anything... and season passes can be dangerous that way if they aren't clear about what they contain.

The actor who portrayed Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher series of games has died

Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor probably best known for starring in British comedy drama Monarch of the Glen - but known to me for being the hilariously foul-mouthed dwarf Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 - has died aged 81.

Cause they play NBA2k26, COD and gamepass

3x less sales than Playstation.
3x less consoles sold than Playstation.

Per captita, it averages out that the same number of users are buying CDP games regardless of platform, no?

Bathyj64d ago

The exact same or possibly more because a series S, initial investment and effort to Port to Xbox consoles for a third of the return.

Simply not worth it

LMGk64d ago

“ Simply not worth it”

And yet, basically every game comes to Xbox.

NotoriousWhiz63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

A third is a pretty big number to be honest. Like would you rather make 15 million or 20 million? That's the difference that a third makes.

GamingSinceForever64d ago

Hey it’s ok. They are really impressed with XBOx’s new CEO so exclusivity is on the way. 😂

Loktai64d ago

Ok but I mean be logical ... modern PC, Switch, PS4 PS5 then you have XBOX, of all of those XBOX is probably only 10 percent... I mean, what do you expect? 10 percent increase in sales is still nothing to sneeze at, remember - this is CD projekt red and they sell a lot of software. 10 percent of their sales is probably what most studios DREAM of selling .... just playing devils advocate..... its easy to say LOL haha XBOX.... but.. I mean we know what it is at this point. I havent bought on since my xbox one X and before that I only used other peoples xboxes since the OG XBOX and stick with PC and Playstation and switch OLED, but .. I mean.... theres nothing WRONG with an xbox considering its just not the best - but they work fine. make no mistake.

Report: Evolve 2 Was Once in Development, Concept Art Reveals Scrapped Sequel

It has been recently revealed by an artist that a sequel to the 2015 title Evolve was in the works. However, this project wouldn't last long.

jznrpg307d ago

Didn’t bother with the first one.

TheColbertinator307d ago

All I wanted was Left 4 Dead 3 instead

Abnor_Mal307d ago

Was this game ahead of its time? A few years later games like Dead By Daylight, Friday the 13th and other asymmetrical games exploded onto the scene.

MeteorPanda307d ago

if lm not mistaken it started the asymmetrical pvp matches. Evolves logo was a nod to their concept.

The_Blue307d ago

They should have because I played the first one when it was already dead
