What DmC: Devil May Cry did wrong

GCO: "With the definitive edition released recently, I figured it was a good opportunity to have another comparison between the old series of Devil May Cry games and the new reboot. As a big fan of Devil May Cry (as well as an avid fan of hack and slashes in general), I have played all but the 2nd instalment of the original series."

What Capcom did wrong is not give DMC4 Special Edition a physical release just like they did with DmC DE. Thank goodness for import.

MrSwankSinatra3975d ago

Crapcom really wants DmC to become a thing. They reboot the series, to no avail since DmC was a flop. Then they remaster DmC which was an even bigger flop. Then they purposely sabotage the Special Edition of DMC4 by only making it digital in the west. An to top it all off, Virgil the selling point of DMC4 SE, Crapcom have took it upon themselves to replace some of Virgil's movesets with ones from DmC.

When will Crapcom learn that "REAL DMC FANS" don't want anything to do with DmC.

Well that's easy, main character.

^^This. I've enjoyed every DMC game Ive played(DMC1, DMC3, and DmC)

Still, DmC on Hard Mode(Nephlim) without the modifiers is WAAAAY TOO EASY. I was shocked at how easy it was and Im not even that big of a fan of frustratingly hard games.

I understand the hate it got when it originally released. I expect my second run through to be awesome once I turn on Hardcore Mode modifier and take on Dante Must Die difficulty.

@HumanAfterAll Going by DmC sales numbers, Capcom are the ones who should be building the bridge not me.

They complained DMC4 didn't sell enough, but were so arrogant that the reason it didn't sell to their expectations was because it was flawed. In some aspects it was a step back from DMC3. Instead of fixing the flaws with a DMC5, they threw everything out the window and made a game that was barely reminiscent of what Devil May Cry actually is. REAL DMC fans did not need to get over because they actually spoke with their wallets. You take the term "REAL DMC fans" too literal. When I say that I'm talking about the people who chose to stick by their guns and chose not buy something they felt wasn't DMC.

@HumanAfterAll I'm whining???? You're the one getting all upset and took what I said to heart. I'm just voicing my opinion. If you don't like what I have to say then don't reply. That's why there is a dislike button, dislike anonymously and keep it moving.

They should just separate the series into two different games, reboot the new one with a different name and back story, then everyone to be happy.

I personally don't find anything interesting about the old DMC series, but I can understand why people love old Dante, his cheesy style gets people off who are into that sort of thing lol

LOGICWINS3974d ago (Edited 3974d ago )

What made the old series great thats missing from the new DMC is the gothic/horror vibe and environments. Also the bosses were tough in the original DMC games. The new DmC can be beaten simply by spamming Arbiter over and over again.

DmC is still an enjoyable action game and I appreciate that more thought went into the story this time around, but for it to be enjoyable to a person that regularly plays hack n slash games...you NEED to crank it up to the higher difficulties.

I agree with you in the sense that the new DmC SHOULD have been a side series called "DmC Origins" or something.

DmC was punching above it's weight

RyuX193975d ago

What DmC did wrong was piss way too many people off. If Ninja Theory was just cool about the whole situation then more people maybe would have been okay with it, but you can't piss off a whole community and deliberately jab them with insults and expect them to still buy your game. That's just plain stupid.

Nobody liked dudebro dante, they shouldve gone with DMC3 personality if they wanted success.

You sound like you’re just a ton of fun to be around.

franwex314d ago

It’s been sitting in my backlog for a while now. One of the first games I wanted to try for this current gen due to the long load times of previous gen. I’ll get around to it soon!

Zenzuu314d ago

One of the best, stylish, and fun action slasher on the system. You definitely should get to it, as soon as you can.

solideagle314d ago

they are taking way too much time with DMC6...

VersusDMC314d ago

The DMC5 team went on to make Dragons Dogma 2, the DMC director (3,4,5) left capcom to make an action game at another studio and the rumor is that a DMC remake is next...so i wouldn't hold my breath on DMC6.

ZeekQuattro313d ago

Everytime its on sale I think about buying it but never do. I only played the orginal and somr of 3 so I guess that's part of it.
