The family sharing they originally talked about needs to come out. I understand that things changed when they did away with the always online and no resale of games, but that should only affect store bought games. The family sharing platform should still work for digital purchases.

Personally I'd like the ability to share my digital purchases over my home network. Both my son's room and my daughter's room have XB1's in them, and I have mine in the living room. I buy most of my games digitally, and because of it they can only play on my system. A way to authorize same network consoles for using my games would be appreciated.

And the concept of digitally trading a game back to Microsoft/Sony is absurd. The reason Gamestop and stores like it do trades is to make profit, why would a company give credit for something they don't need because they have infinite copies already? Now the ability to sell directly to your online friends, be it through an actual program on the system or a gifting method that would allow the currency to be handled personally instead of on the digital marketplace, that would be ideal.

There's quite a few problems with digital downloads. Game install sizes are always getting bigger, and the console makers never put a big enough hard drive in the machines, then there's the bandwidth problem, not everyone has a super fast connection. Then there's the price issue, a boxed copy of the game is almost always cheaper than the digital version, which doesn't really make any sense. And then to top it all off once you're finished with the game you cannot trade it in.

I never trade in my games anyway, So I don't care that you can't trade in digital downloads. To me it makes no sense to trade in your games to a place like Gamestop just so you can get 5 bucks cash or 10 bucks of in-store credit and then they turn around and sell the game for 40 or 50 bucks used. I've started buying more and more digital because although I prefer physical, often times digital can be cheaper esp. when Microsoft or Sony has a big sale going on, and I also realize that I rarely if ever go back and play old games again.

What a terrible idea. How can they trade it in? They can't resell your used digital download lol. I mean come on, use your head. Are they really going to take a loss? Grow up man. Gaming is a hobby and you are not forced to do anything. If you don't like it, go to the store and buy the disc. One has to weigh the ups and downs of it. Personally, being able to buy it from my couch or buying a game at in my office at work and it downloaded/installed on my xbox when I get home from work is incentive enough for me. Unless you're in high school or college and are not working much, trading in games is a waste. Game stores give you nothing in return and selling it online is more of a hassle for me as I don't have to check my bank if I want a game.

One thing I think needs to be addressed is lowering the price a few. Even 5-10 bucks would draw more people in. I will give X1 credit with the deals, they ALWAYS have big sales and weekly discounts.

I subscribe to this thinking with games as well.

Things I don't like are lack of a physical game in hand. Going to the store and talk about games when buying said game. And the fact the game magically disappears after a while I bought TMTN Turtles in time Reshelled took it off my PS3 to free up space. Now the PSN store says the game is unavailable.

I mostly buy digital games. Its because its easier for to carry my system with me and choosing which game to bring along although i still buy the physical copies like gta 5. Just cause it comes with a map that I wana keep.

Just call it PlayStation Online, pay your subscription and you get everything. All this gold, silver and bronze membership or whatever is nonsense. Same situation with Nintendo, pay your money and you get the lot. If Nintendo charged £19.99 or £24.99 for the lot, a lot more people would pay it. When you consider Nintendo tried Switch 2 games for £75 and failed, the cost of games these days, this online malarky should be free when PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X games are pushing £70+. You pay for the cost of running their online service is tosh.

They had probably wanted to do that all the way back to 2012 when they introduced the Sony Entertainment Network and the backlash forced them to keep the PSN name alive.

I knew this would happen. Now is the time for Microsoft strike back and send Sony back to only making TVs.

ANOTHER REASON DIGITAL ONLY SUCKS.

I have a sizable game collection that includes a lot hefty download files and takes a lot of time if you want to ever play a game rather than have it on tap. So, I actually have 3 PlayStation 4 consoles and PlayStation treats me like a criminal for my troubles. Why do I have 3 PS4 consoles? Because of the size of games and also functionality. My 1st Gen PS4 is for disc-based games, which is getting smaller because now I have digital backups and keep my games sealed. But, I also have a PS4 Slim which houses all my base PS4 games and VR. My PSVR hooks up to the slim for VR gaming as well. My PS4 Slim has an internal 2TB SSD and 4TB external mechanical HDD and both are beyond full. Then I have PS4 Pro that has a similar setup and is also full. My PS4 Pro has games on it that are optimized for PS4 (benefits that come from the PS Pro). Because size is so limited, this is what I have and when the Internet goes out or PSN goes down, I can't play any of my games. If I'm playing games on one room of the house on a PS4, and someone in the house wants to play on a separate PS4 at the same time, we get locked out. I pay for games, in my own house, and I'm treated like a thief. I have digital I buy and when physical media goes on sale at a low price, I then have my physical media, which remains sealed and turns into a savings account as well as throughout my gaming life, I've learned a lot about the value of games over time. The older they get, the more valuable they become.

So, yeah, I'm locked out. Can't play anything so I go to PS3 or Xbox or other consoles. What a croc

So I'm guessing if you paid premium dollars for that PS5 Pro bad boy, it is now a brick. This outage may be a good thing for gamers as it reminds everyone of the consequences of an all digital console that Sony is desperate for consumers to embrace.

I was unaffected by this because I know how to properly set up my PS5 as primary so that I don't need to be online just to use digitally purchased games. I feel bad for those with multiple PlayStation systems and since I don't have a Portal yet, I'm still not sure if access to PSN is really required after initial setup just to use a $200 remote peripheral, but I feel bad for those impacted by that as well and will just have to take everyone's word for it that Portal requires PSN.

In any case I'm vindicated again for buying physical games wherever possible. Yes, I might not be impacted because I only have one PS5 system that is cleared for true offline play, but all disc-based games I own are clear for offline play.
