7 DVD's, jesus. Kinda makes you feel lucky that consoles have moved onto bluray drives.

SonyWarrior4066d ago

at least this time GTA on PC will not be on windows live.... what a nightmare that was for gta 4.

Nero21424066d ago

What a nightmare that was ?! ill tell you , it took me 3h to make it work !

SolidStoner4066d ago

best part for console blu rays is that you can play it for 3 months and then still manage to sell it for 80% of the full price..

Im like playing all new games for 10 bucks... seriously! :D

Clunkyd4066d ago

@Solid

Gotta love physical copies.
Nothing beats playing games for dirt cheap. Especially when most games aren't even worth keeping.

If you choose to unstall it by disc, you can download it too if you have fast internet. Best part about PC gaming, once installed, no longer need the disc's to play it.

nitus104066d ago

Well the writing was on the wall when Bluray disks and high definition games appeared on the scene. If we do the sums the approximate data on the disks (assuming single sided at 4.7GB and full) we get 32.9GB which would easily fit on a one double sided Bluray disk.

Of course we could go one better and assume they used double sided DVD's which would come to 65.8GB and while this would not fit on a 50GB Bluray you have to take into account what data is really on those DVD's so it is highly likely the total data is under 50GB.

Actually the PS4 and XB1 install sizes are supposed to be around 50GB, so you better have very good network bandwidth/speed as well as an excellent plan (ie unlimited) if you go for a digital download.

Actually you can get Bluray disk drives (some can RW DVD's and CD's as well) for PC's (internal and external) fairly cheaply although not as cheap as a DVD drive.

Personally I have never used my combined Bluray reader and RW DVD drive. As for backups I backup to an external disk drive.

FallenRain4066d ago

Wow.

Well not really any surprise, the game is like 60 GB, probably going to be the largest game I've ever downloaded.

Genuine-User4066d ago

Bluray should be the retail standard for gaming PC's going forward.

mushroomwig4066d ago

To be honest it's a little late for that, digital is being the standard. Not to mention Bluray drives aren't standard for PCs.

Genuine-User4066d ago (Edited 4066d ago )

We should at least have an option between Bluray and DVD.
Downloading 60GB+ in my area can take upto a day.

iSuperSaiyanGod4066d ago

Why do the even have physical cooys for pc still? I'm a console gamer , but I can't even remember the last time I use my computer with disk , in thinkin 2007 when I was burning music still lmao

Femto4066d ago

most gaming pc's nowadays dont even have dvd players because its all digital.

it would've costed rockstar alot less money if they made it digital only but i understand why, its 60gb and not everyone has a good internet speeds and some people have caps.

people on the pc side are moving away from disk drives slowly and slowly, so i dont see the bluray standard moving forward on pcs. i have a blu ray drive in my pc because it does come in handy some times but most people dont.

Sethry1014066d ago

What rubbish, I think if you took a second to look outside your country you will find more people around the world don't have the Internet required for games like this.

BitbyDeath4066d ago

It is the standard player, DVD still works on Blu-ray though so I guess they want to also capture those with 5-10 year old rigs.

nitus104066d ago

A combined Bluray/DVD reader/writer has two optical heads, one for DVD/CD and the other for Bluray. While I have never seen a Bluray only reader/writer in the future you may get them.

The price of an internal and even an external Bluray/DVD reader/writer has dropped dramatically in the last two years although a DVD reader/writer is still cheaper.

Lon3wolf4066d ago

Don't even have an optical drive on my PC, Windows installs fine via USB and digital distribution is good nowadays so I never felt the need for one. Sad thing I pre-ordered GTA V from gameseek in Sept 2013, lol I hope there is a code I can use to dload digitally :D

Athonline4066d ago

No point. I may get the physical copies for limited editions or as "memorabilia" if a game worth it. Even then, I am using the key on Steam/Origin. I don't even have a DvD/BluRay drive in any of my three machines.

Maxor4066d ago (Edited 4066d ago )

No way in hell. My PC doesn't even have a disk drive. To suggest that Bluray should be the standard is ignorant because nobody buy physical on the PC.

Sethry1014066d ago

As someone living in a third world could try I can say you are the ignorant one, millions and millions of people don't have Internet nearly fast enough ot high enough cap to download 60gb.

Maxor4066d ago

Then as a someone in a third world country you have bigger problems than worrying about Bluray being a standard.

I can't afford internet bandwidth and I wish PCs adopt the Bluray because I live in a third world country...said by no one ever. The suggestion is so ludicrous on so many fronts that it made me LOL.

Azzanation4066d ago

Blu Ray Disc's have a slower read speed. Its not nessaccary for PCs since once its installed its no longer needed.

cluclap4065d ago

Actually blu ray discs are faster than DVD and cds naturally because of the technology they use and it's 1x speed specifications. All three optical media have different 1x speed for example a dvd has a 1x speed of 1mbps while a blu ray has a 1x speed of 36mpbs.

jay24066d ago

@Neonridr Yes, 10 years ago lol. and people say PC's ahead of consoles? where's the blu-ray copy?

kingPoS4066d ago

But what happens if you loose one or two of those discs... buy it all over again?

Gateway MT6706 2008

neoandrew4066d ago

Nah, either way it requires a steam account so you can download it when you want.

OpenGL4066d ago

Producing 7 DVDs is probably more expensive than 1 Blu-ray but the cost is irrelevant if your customer base can't use the discs.

hiredhelp4066d ago (Edited 4066d ago )

Firstly pop into pc world or any con based pc shop you find drives have blu ray readers fitted on many pc/laptops.
Secondly the reason why not mainstream is because there billions computers in the world old and new most have dvd rom So DVD is your universal media.
They have to cater to the masses that said even blu ray virtually be pointless on pc with digital downloads.

iSuperSaiyanGod4066d ago

Dvds are basically pointless with computers now , I don't see why they don't just go full digital with pc games. Or at least blu Ray , if you can't afford it to bad . There's s reason new consoles come out , not everybody can afford it at first and those people get over it

Lon3wolf4066d ago

I don't even have an optical drive as PC digital distribution is really good nowadays, optical drives are so 90's :P

matt1394066d ago

They're like a tenner. There's literally no point in not having one.

Lon3wolf4066d ago

@matt139

What's cost got to do with not needing one? I have a few here just not connected to PC as not been needed for years now.

kingPoS4066d ago (Edited 4066d ago )

One smart phone loaded with streaming music apps -- $78-$399.
A collection of audio cd's & cd-r's -- a loving investment of time & effort.
Not having your music interrupted by unexpected calls -- priceless.

Gateway MT6706 2008

Athonline4066d ago

@Matt139:
They take space. I like small SSFPCs with mITx/mATX cases (my desktop is literally 22L mATX build, thus disc drive area goes for cable management) and for laptops, I traded my optical drive for a fourth SSD on my main laptop and my work/small one, doesn't even have space for it.

Azzanation4066d ago

DvD is cheaper and the read speeds are faster, once installed PC gaming doesn't require discs anymore, not if you enter in a product key, everything is account bound. Why choose Blu Ray when it will cost more and take longer to install?

Been a few years since I had a disc reader in my computer...And if I would have one it certainly wouldn't be a DVD reader..?!

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood132d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar131d ago (Edited 131d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher131d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake131d ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake140d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09139d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle139d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto139d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle139d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart139d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher139d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
