When Will The Zombie Bubble Burst?

Paul James writes "Zombies are a major part of the entertainment landscape, in gaming they’re more prominent than ever before. We’ve seen recent releases such as Dying Light and Left 4 Dead, we see TV shows such as The Walking Dead dominate television, World War Z and more end up huge Hollywood blockbusters. It would seem as though zombies are here to stay, but are they really?"

If the games are well made and bring something new to the table then keep them coming. But I would also like to see a major studio take up a dinosaur game. Right now its the indies making the dino games, I've only played a couple of them with friends but they are fun.

Yea I want more dinosaur games

hopefully Guerrilla Games' Horizon helps, and Capcom bring back Dino Crisis

Robot Zombie Dinosaurs.

I'd like to see a zombie game be able to pull off the threat of a hoard properly. Not like Dead Rising where it's just more zombies to slay with some ridiculous weapon, but a more grounded in reality approach..If that makes sense.

And I agree on the dino games. I remember seeing B.C. back in the day and being amazed. Then it was cancelled and as far as I know nobody has tried to make something like that since. Maybe with Jurassic World releasing soon it'll spark more interest in the genre

I'm still enjoying zombie games.

no_more_heroes4059d ago

Never cared much for zombies, but I do enjoy The Walking Dead. Also, the "Run For Your Lives" 5k run was super fun to do. Other than that, I feel no desire to get/do/watch something just because it has zombies in it.

Guess I'm weird like that.

I'm not gonna wish it to end since clearly a lot of people enjoy them. It just doesn't do anything super special for me.

Not in its entirety, no. Been a long while since I've seen what I have as well and don't remember much.

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
