Fallout 4: Why A Multiplayer Component Could Ruin The Upcoming RPG

Bethesda's new hire from team Destiny might indicate a multiplayer component for the next Fallout. But is it a good thing?

A single player only Fallout 4 or GTFO Bethesda. I have been waiting for this way too long. Dont ruin it. You already have a huge fanbase.

-Foxtrot4112d ago

Yeah. Any resources or time spent on the multiplayer could of been spent on the single player to create more content or making the already said content more solid.

Multiplayer is not needed in Fallout or Elder Scrolls. If they want to do MMO's fine but the main games should remain single player.

There's too many cons that outweigh the so called "pros" of including co-op in this game.

Nobody thinks of the consequences.

Spurg4112d ago

It depends how they integrate it into the game.
It it something like Dark Souls where the player gets invaded by a different faction like NCR or legion players could be interesting. That would make the wasteland feel much more alive and dangerous.
They could work with the karma system where it would make a difference. Being good would attract the bad players to invade and kill for their faction rep.

@Spurg

It sounds interesting but that's Dark Souls thing, it's not really something that would work within these games and in my opinion to see if it DOES work is not worth the risk

I mean we only get Fallout or Elder Scrolls once every so often so I wouldn't want them to risk anything that's not guaranteed to work. They have a great single player focused system in place and because there's so few games out there like them it's what keeps each new installment fresh.

"Multiplayer is not needed in Fallout or Elder Scrolls. If they want to do MMO's fine but the main games should remain single player."

This is literally how I feel about it as well. The previous fallout games were amazing and this one could be the best yet so I hope they just don't ruin it.

" Any resources or time spent on the multiplayer could of been spent on the single player to create more content or making the already said content more solid"

Errr not really true as if they get a networking team to actually do the online work, I don't think any of the single player staff will just be now making online features as those are not the same jobs....

Mind you, Elders Scrolls has an MMO, if Fallout was going to have something even near that, they clearly would not call it Fallout 4 as there team has done both before.

Again..the team that does the single player work is likely not the same team doing the online work.

It just doesn't work that way.

"A single player only Fallout 4 or GTFO Bethesda. I have been waiting for this way too long."

Yeah only because Bethesda made you wait along with millions of others because they are taking their time crafting the game THEY want to make, you sound incredibly spoilt and self entitled in your comment, I too am not fussed on multiplayer/co-op in Fallout 4 but if it has either or both then so be it, it's not my place to decide whether or not it should.

There's also a comment in your recent comment history where you say that Titanfall 2 should have a campaign, which is funny because that game's strength is its multiplayer and a campaign isn't necessary at all, and its core fan base couldn't care less about one, I couldn't for the life of me imagine an interesting campaign in Titanfall's universe anyway, it would just be another short and generic fps campaign.

Don't you think you're being a bit hypocritical?

thricetold4111d ago

Thank you jalva, was going to say something similar. Can't stand when these people state an mp game should WASTE resources on a SHOEHORNED SP portion that should go to more mp content but cry to the heavens when it's the other way around.

Bunch of entitled hypocrites.

_-EDMIX-_4112d ago

Not if the do it ala Demon Souls and player simply populate the game and don't actually mess up your quest. Mind you, Fallout 4 will likely have a offline feature that clearly even stops that if they player feels just.

This is a good move for them as this doesn't mean it can't be offline, merely that you have more options for the future.

I don't really think something is wrong with options as one can just choose to not have that mode on while playing.

pivotplease4112d ago

Well said. I have personally thought that some form of multiplayer in elder scrolls would be awesome. It just needs to be balanced and executed perfectly. And optional of course.

guyman4112d ago

Nice use of clickbait. Nowhere does it indicate which studio he is working in and we dont even know which project he is working on. Bethesda have multiple projects on the go, and fallout has not even been confirmed. Poor journalism strikes again here at gamingbolt.

shadowknight2034112d ago (Edited 4112d ago )

Fallout 4 coop mode please say no. I want every single resource to be used for atmosphere, story, gameplay tweaks, animation, background textures ect ect. Not networking code and all that wasted time. Fallout games dont need multiplayer. We just want what fallout 3 gave us: immersion and 100 hour game playthroughs

Nicaragua4112d ago

yeah - because the people who write netcode are definitely the same people who write the story, draw textures, animate the models etc.....

MRMagoo1234112d ago (Edited 4112d ago )

They use the same budget, so if budget goes to adding multiplayer it gets taken away from the part that actually matters.

theFAYEsorceress4112d ago

i don't want multiplayer but i wouldn't be against co-op.

StrawberryDiesel4204112d ago

Competitive MP would make no sense, however, Coop could work.

OrangePowerz4112d ago (Edited 4112d ago )

Not for the main game since Fallout is about choices. That would only work for non story missions.

andibandit4112d ago

On paper it sounds cool, but when you got a 70hour+ game, the playthrough is just going to drag out for months, assuming youre playin it through with the same friend(s)

They need to look at Morrowind and see what the progression should have been from there instead of the regression we got with the next 2 games. They weren’t horrible games but they could have been so much more.

-Foxtrot240d ago

Fallout 4 just felt too streamlined and accessible to me, the perk system was not as fun as it was in Fallout 3, not saying Fallout 3 didn't have issues but 4 just felt like a complete step back.

mastershredder240d ago

So the part where you just sold the same games for the last 10 years while you focused on 76 and merch, was not a reset from the "creative" aspect eh? How very Todd of you.

lukasmain240d ago

I bought Fallout 4 (I loved Fallout 3) at launch and I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even get close to finishing it. It was soooo damned boring and bland. I played on a very hard difficulty and I had hundreds of stimpaks. One of the only games I've played for a while and not ended up finishing it. I hated it. Just flat out hated it.
