that’s some good news for DX12 ON Xbox one

christocolus4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

He talks about the development pipeline between Xbox and PC being tighter and very similar..interesting. I hope we get to see a demo of a game built ground up with DX12 at E3. Gears 4 and Scalebound hopefully.

gangsta_red4064d ago

Yes, something tells me the reason MS hasn't been talking much about DX12 for Xbox One is because they are saving it for a huge reveal of a game(s) at E3.

TheCommentator4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

I don't think we'll see full, hardware accelerated DX12 (GCN 2.0) releases like Gears until 2016 E3 but software based DX12 will still improve things a bit. I'm stoked about Halo, Forza, and Crackdown, plus unannounced reveals.

Edit to gfk 342:

When Phil said 50% boost to PC, he was talking about today's PC's which aren't GCN. When he talks about XB1, he's saying that the first games coming out using DX12 won't be running GCN-based engines so we "won't see a massive boost" right away. Full disclosure is impossible, as the NDA won't likely be lifted until GCN PC cards are released.

GameNameFame4064d ago

Wow. So much denials here.

Here are the facts from MS themselves:

-MS never said it will benefit X1 like they did with PC.
-MS Dev themselves said all the benefits and benchmark figures are for PC. Not Xbox.
-MS Dev said it on their website saying DX12 is giving what console has to PC
-Phil said it won't be "dramatic"

Pogmathoin4064d ago

April fools day is once a year, yet you are here saying the same thing everyday.... Yet again, copy and pasting ancient links, ignoring anything new that is positive.... Yet you will get agrees from the walking horde....

TheCommentator4064d ago

@game

Funny how Phil only spoke out about Brad's claims that MS was lying about DX12 on XB1, yet has not denied anything else Brad has said before. Why? Phil can't talk about everything because of NDA agreements. Ironically, Phil's only rebuttal was that performance gains depend how you code. What does this mean? The first DX12 games are new "icing" on an old DX11 "cake" and still taste like old cake that looks better. GCN based DX12 needs a new "cake" to be baked first which takes time, but will yield better results.

In managing expectations, Phil knows games like Halo 5 and Forza 6 are "old cake" and will show modest gains. In keeping the NDA agrreement, however, he can't say what GCN will do for the console either, hence the ambiguity in his statements and inability to confirm what Brad's been saying all along.

If Phil was so quick to point out one of Wardell's claims as false, why is he not speaking out against any of Wardell's other claims? Because Wardell is not lying either.

Bdub20004064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@game,

Seriously bro, get a LIFE. This is an article for X1 owners. It's not in the front page of N4G, you literally had to take your slimy troll fingers and click on to the X1 section so you could spam another X1 article. It's not your job to manage X1 gamers expectations.

Seriously, the X1 is in the midst of a transformation, and it is fun to own one. I'm glad the ps4 is more powerful, look how it's benefitting us in the long run with MS catering to us. Plus, we all had to accept that ps4 was graphically more powerful. But now the ps4 guys are still spouting the same old rhetoric, "but the E3 reveal" and "blah blah blah secret sauce" and "I know everything about DX12". Just bashing X1 owners for reading articles about the machine they bought and has nothing to do with ps4, stop holding on to the past.

GameNameFame4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@Commentator.

LOL. You think Spencer is under NDA to not discuss DX12? Lol. Are you serious?

At the same time, you think Brad Wardel is not under NDA and goes off saying w/e he wants about DX12, but Spencer has NDA and cant talk about it?

LOL. THat is the saddest excuse I've heard.

Spencer does talk about DX12. He said it wont be dramatic. and will improve GPU performance on PC ONLY. Yup. Clarified it was PC only.

Awful alot of detail for guy who apparently has NDA.

So if Brad is working on DX12 and should have NDA, how can he talk about it? LOL. and guy never made a single console game. Yea. Witcher still cant do full HD on X1.

-----------------------------
@Bdub2000
"big fan Phil Can you shed any light about brad wardell saying the people are lying about the power of DX12 on XB1. Down playing it??"

That was tweet he was replying to. You do realize MS was CONFIRMING it won't be "dramatic".

Brad Wardell said MS is lying about DX12 on XB1(about Spencer saying it wont be dramatic).Spencer said he wasnt lying about how not "dramatic" it was.

LOL. Really sad.

TheCommentator4064d ago

@ game
How you troll shows what you know. You take everything out of context and spin it. If you knew what was going on with DX12 by reading about it you would understand my post.

The NDA is hardware driven, not software driven, since it's based off of GCN as referenced in AMD's GDC presentation with "to be announced" features. Phil corrected Brad by saying DX12 performance gains were dependent on how you code. He no longer says it won't be massive. Brad also never talks specifically about hardware functions designed for DX12, only API level stuff, so he's not in breach of the NDA. It's all part of managing expectations; I.E. controlling the flow of information.

If Phil were to run his mouth, like you, he would look like an idiot. When 1st gen DX12 games come out and don't show the gains that hardware accelerated games will next year, they won't be massively improved. MS teamed up with AMD, however, and spent their money on DX12 hardware in XB1 as research into a cohesive ststem architecture that will eventually replace the architecture of the standard PC, starting with GCN. Until GCN GPU's hit the market the capabilities of XB1 are under NDA. Why fundamentally change how a PC functions? When die sizes reach their limits, efficiency is the only way to improve performance. Efficiency over horsepower through HSA.

rainslacker4064d ago

I work with DX12 and I had to sign an NDA. It's pretty standard boilerplate stuff. Brad Wardell skirts around it by talking about things that have been shown outside of NDA, but he only ever talks about things which have been mentioned by MS...such as opening up processor cores to the GPU, and ESRAM. Because of this, he is not breaking NDA. He also talks about his own implementation of things with DX12, but never specifics on what within DX12 made it possible.

Otherwise, i wouldn't say that there is any specific clauses in the NDA that prevent people from talking about certain features, just a general, "Keep it quiet" thing.

Also, the NDA is most definitely software driven, given that DX12 is software. Particulars on hardware will be given out based on who is working with a specific hardware. It's hard to talk about the hardware gains of DX12 without discussing the software, so unless you're an Xbox dev there is no reason to sign specific NDA's on it.

I didn't have to sign anything regarding the X1 because we don't work with that.

As far as why Phil isn't discrediting the things Brad talks about...well it's probably because he's already addressed it. It's not like Wardell says a lot of new things, just his new experiences with it. I think Phil has other things to do than to confirm or deny Wardells comments...which tend to be numerous.

NuggetsOfGod4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

The denial in here is god awful..

@gangsta_red

Lol good first response to the xbox devs saying it won't do much.

"Forza Motorsport 5 Tech Demo – console-level efficiency on PC

Forza Motorsport 5 is an example of a game that pushes the Xbox One to the limit with its fast-paced photorealistic racing experience. Under the hood, Forza achieves this by using the efficient low-level APIs already available on Xbox One today. Traditionally this level of efficiency was only available on console – now, Direct3D 12, even in an alpha state, brings this efficiency to PC and Phone as well. By porting their Xbox One Direct3D 11.X core rendering engine to use Direct3D 12 on PC, Turn 10 was able to bring that console-level efficiency to their PC tech demo." - Microsoft

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dir...

Can't for e3 so Microsoft can show of what xbox already has?

360 will be further optimized but nothing night and day.

Even ps4 is already using techniques according to amd that is gcn multi-threading.

Dumbies.

If u want to be wowed get a pc or be happy with xbox. The hardware is not getting any better ot younger.

Amd and nvidia cards will be working together on pc.

Amds hmb card w/ 8Gb comming thos year.
Amd & Nvidia hbm2 cards coming next year with up to 8+ GB vRam.

Plus dx12/Vulkan.

Why the fake is an old apu exciting to talk about.

All this because of bradwell.

A pc dev not making any xbox games currently.

That's interesting. Can't wait to see how DX12 will fully benefits X1.

Maxor4064d ago

This isn't a miracle cure all. The XB1 will need games designed with DX12 in mind to take advantage of this and I doubt any existing game will be patched to DX12 without a paid DLC.

OC_MurphysLaw4064d ago

I suppose it all depends on who the developer is and the game. If they game used DX11 maybe they apply DX12 as a learning process for future projects? We shall see I guess.

bleedsoe9mm4064d ago

if its being done for the pc version the xb1 version seems to be more similar with dx12

mhunterjr4064d ago

Ms said the first dx12 games will launch holiday 2015 and you can bet many multiplat games, which typically use pc as the lead platform, will be using dx12. This will allow developers to spend less time porting to xbox, and more time optimizing

I've heard claims of 20x 10x 80% and now only slightly more performance?

tuglu_pati4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

We wont know for sure until is out and people can get some benchmark results. My guess is that it will benefit from it but it wont be a game changer, if that was the case MS would have been yelling it from the top of a mountain.

4064d ago
tuglu_pati4064d ago

Read the article @cayosh stop being a child for once in your life. Im talking about benchmarks on XBO.

kraenk124064d ago

It's gonna do wonders for PC as PC APIs aren't close to the metal. XB1 and PS4 APIs are already optimized and the benefit of DX12 even optimistically won't give you more than 20% or so benefit. BTW the PS4 API already IS very optimized so MS is only trying to get closer to that.

Eddie201014064d ago

Please provide links to those claims because every article I have read says that the performance boost that D12 will be bring to Xbox One is slight, minimal, and not dramatic.

This article says that many of the improvements in D12 are already implemented on Xbox One. That the improvements will be slight on Xbox One.

D12 will I hope be a big improvement on PC's and from what I have read it will be. Finally take true advantage of high end PC hardware and give a boost to lower end hardware.

I have a Xbox One and enjoy it very much but I doubt D12 wiil bring big changes to Xbox One games.

About time someone is bringing out a new motorcycle racer. Can't wait for this to come out in June!

TheUltimateGamer4380d ago

Hmm... I expected this to span all systems. Kind of surprising.

Alexious4380d ago

It seems just a matter of opportunity. MotoGP 15 will surely be on Xbox One as well.

D3ATH_DRIV3R_7774380d ago (Edited 4380d ago )

Wrong! the X1 will not be getting MotoGP 15.
The devs has confirmed it. I think xbox 360 getting it, but not X1

Aurenar4380d ago

I hope to see new games or a reboot of Screamer!

Alexious4380d ago

I'd love some Jet Ski racing!

odderz4380d ago

We don't see much vehicle variety in our realistic racers - nice to see some action on two wheels!

bobsmith4380d ago

hope this comes out in north america 13 didnt
would cost like $90 to import and I dont want to do that because I dont even know if i'd be able to find online matches easily

Damn, bad luck for Xbox One users!

truefan14381d ago (Edited 4381d ago )

Don't feel sorry for me for this game, when I start missing games like Titanfall and Sunset Overdrive feel sorry for me. No harm done, the opportunity isn't there, I respect their decision. It just wasn't some dev talking trash looking for 15 minutes of fame.

PS I agree with people below, we have to right the ship. Racing, fighting, and shooter should be 60fps, no exceptions.

ZodTheRipper4381d ago

I feel sorry for you regardless of what you're missing out on.

mrmarx4381d ago

you mean the last of us and uncharted.

MysticStrummer4381d ago

If I didn't feel sorry for you already, this game wouldn't change anything.

Alexious4381d ago

Well, admittedly it is a niche genre. But I have Titanfall on my PC, so I wouldn't really count that as an exclusive...

As for racing/shooter with obligatory 60FPS, that's really not the case. The sensation of speed can be rendered in 30FPS as well if the developer knows what it's doing (Motorstorm is a good example).

Boody-Bandit4381d ago (Edited 4381d ago )

60fps should be the standard, no exceptions you say?

Forza Horizon and the PGR series were excellent games, both of which I like more than Forza 5 (yes I have it and play it regularly XBL- BoodyBandit), and they ran at 30fps.

Horizon 2 will probably be announced at E3. I hope for your sake it's not 30fps yet again. I don't think you will find many people that love racing games that didn't think Forza Horizon was exceptional. Than again anything a trolls says should be taken with a truck load of salt.

Glad you're enjoying TitanFall. I played it on and off for 2 weeks than sent it back to GameFly. The first couple days I had a blast but than my enthusiasm fell off a cliff. I just couldn't get into it. Most people I know that bought it all feel the same way. Good thing I rented it.

dantesparda4380d ago (Edited 4380d ago )

30 fps? Lol I'm good. Even my phone could handle those specs.

Magicite4381d ago

almost every month since launch PS4 has had more games than X1. With time this gap will grow larger (more exclusives for PS4 and more 3rd parties avoiding X1).
Its so early into 8th gen, yet we already seeing differences between lead platform and others.

LexHazard794381d ago

Lol...at you thinking 3rd party support will diminish on Xbox One. Most of the devs not working on Xbox one are indies. Xbox is not Wii U I dont see that happening anytime soon.

LexHazard794381d ago

I Feel bad for Xbox One users who like the Moto series. That being said I dont play it so no biggie for me and if I want to play it I can get it for PS4.

Anyone else think that these racing games should really be aiming for 60FPS? When it comes to a racing title, I'd prefer lesser graphics and a higher framerate.

dale_denton4382d ago

driveclub looks great for 30fps so i'm fine with it.

GarrusVakarian4381d ago (Edited 4381d ago )

You're right, it does. It's no secret how much im hyped for DriveClub around here...but even i can say it would *feel* better to play at 60fps. Twice the frames, twice the input response.

johndoe112114381d ago

Yeah so I gotta admit to being guilty. I got no problem admitting when I'm wrong. I was one of those that was complaining about the 30fps for driveclub when they first announced it but then I saw that last trailer they released last week and OOOHHHH BOY, that sh!t blew me through next sunday. If that is what that game looks like at 30fps then I got absolutely no problem with it.

PaperMan4381d ago

Drive club looks great. But it all depends on how it plays. If it's poor to play then it doesn't matter how good it looks.

Alexious4381d ago

@lukas

Motorstorm had 30FPS and it felt just fine.

I'd agree...

Was just ripping around in a grand Prix car in forza for the x class ... I can't imagine keeping that feeling of speed at 30fps..

monkeyDzoro4382d ago

Have you played NFS MostWanted on PS2 ? MidnightClub L.A on PS360 ?
I guess you didnt feel the speed...

GarrusVakarian4381d ago (Edited 4381d ago )

There are tons of racers that are 30fps that have incredible sense of speeds. PGR, NFS, Blur, Midnight Club, Testdrive Unlimited, Split Second, Forza Horizon...and more recently, DriveClub.

60fps would make it feel smoother and more responsive to play, but sense of speed isn't exclusive to 60fps racers.

johndoe112114381d ago

Yeah....of course you can't.

liquidhalos4381d ago

I had that sense of speed playing pgr, that was a fantastic game. Today is the first time I'd heard it was only 30fps. I suppose it's all down to the developers and how well they can interpret that sense of speed using experience.

n4rc4381d ago (Edited 4381d ago )

Its different.. They use a blur effect or whatever else..

Open wheel racing on forza is the best sense of speed I've seen in any game.. Part of it is the responsiveness etc

Just my opinion

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 4381d ago
GarrusVakarian4382d ago (Edited 4382d ago )

Agreed. I'm hyped beyond belief for DriveClub, which runs at 30fps, but i think 60fps should be prioritized for racers. A game featuring ridiculously fast super bikes should be 60fps.

Racers and FPS's, imo, should be 60fps. (In an ideal world, all games would be 60fps, but alas, consoles have to make compromises). But hey, im not a developer, i don't get to make those decisions.

johndoe112114381d ago

I would have agreed with you on that point before last week when I saw the last driveclub trailer, but now, I dunno. Driveclub looked smooth and flawless in that trailer and If they can give me mind blowing graphics at a steady 30fps in a racing game, I'm all for it. I think driveclub is the game that proves you don't need to have 60fps in a racing game for it to be awesome.

tee_bag2424381d ago

Definitely.. 30 fps is criminal in a racing game. Well its a crime in any game in my world but its sacrilege in a racing game.

sinjonezp4381d ago

@odderz

while 60 is preferred, developers have learned to use graphical tricks to make it seem very smooth. My only concern is how it translate into input. When I'm turning, breaking at high rates of speed, would that frame rate affect that. There have been plenty of games at 30 and its fine. When u dip into 20's, that's when things become difficult on the eyes and input.

I am very happy with the choice. They can experiment with more effective uses of the touchpad of DualShock 4.

I am happy with the technical parity between PS4 and PC, because I like to dream about the possibility of cross-play between the two communities.

Nine_Thousaaandd4381d ago

Yeah...the PS4 and PC parity, I welcome big time. Sony has been very open-minded to PlayStation joining PC gamers on the same servers.

Be nice to hear if MotoGP communities from both sides will play together.

Alexious4381d ago

I doubt that will happen, but it would indeed be very interesting to see!

voodoochild3464381d ago

Pc gameplay is scalable. You don't need to gimp to pc version to have crossplay between consoles.

MRMagoo1234381d ago

Hardware in the pc is the thing that gimps games not the devs, if you have a sh!t pc it wont run games well, if you have a good pc it will.

voodoochild3464381d ago

@MRMagoo123
My point was that parity between pc and console versions is not required for cross platform play. If you can't follow the dialogue don't comment.

Software_Lover4382d ago

So are they saying PC will be stuck at 30fps?

Alexious4382d ago

Well not really, I'd say what they meant for that is they are trying to maintain a minimum of 30FPS, although that is kind of hard to do with PC. Some particularly weak configurations may struggle to reach even that, while more powerful rigs should have no trouble reaching 60FPS.

Stapleface4382d ago

No.." with a minimum stable frame rate of 30FPS" Sounds like the ps4 is stuck at 30fps but the pc will be able to do beyond that. Any dev locking any game at any frame rate on pc has lost their minds. If that does turn out to be the case, then that is just sad.
