Japanese Games Can Learn From Anim

One of the criticisms most often leveled at Japanese games—particularly those in the JRPG genre—is that the characters and stories tend to fall into well established tropes of the animation industry in Japan that preceded games. We’ve all seen the clichés; the amnesiac protagonist, they mysterious transfer student, the orphan with a special destiny, the female childhood friend carrying a torch for the hero but unable to declare her feelings, lessons about the power of friendship, and, of course, the need to get stronger purely as a noble method of protecting loved ones.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

I'd add Rogue Galaxy, Shadow of the Colossus.

Silent Hill 3 was straight up sorcery. It has better hair animation than most modern games, which is wild to me.

I would throw in MGS3 as well

Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster Review – The Returners Return

Gary Green said: We Europeans got royally screwed with the releases of the first six Final Fantasy games. I’m sure you’d find plenty of dodgy imports or bootlegs if you looked hard enough, but we never actually got a proper release for any of them, at least not for the first editions. There was a lot of xenophobia in gaming at the time, so anything Japanese getting released in the west at all was nothing short of a miracle. It was an ugly trend that continued well into the 2000s when worldwide releases became the new norm.
