Remember the days when patches were 10 to 100 megabytes?

gavinm19934070d ago

yep, sick of these gigantic patches for every single game. suppose thats the trade off with the next gen these days...

LordMaim4070d ago

Well this isn't a patch, it's the new DLC that wasn't completed in time for release. It is being given out as a free download.

Gamer19824070d ago

Indeed the DLC is clearly the reason here no way its 8gb of fixes for a probably around 30gb game.

Blurmobjet4070d ago

Actually, I'm starting to miss the days when complete games came on cartridges...

Bobby Kotex4070d ago

omg stop saying 'next gen'

Sevir4070d ago

Thats the size of xbox 360 game! :( This is getting outrageous!

What the hell kinda bugs are missing QA to the point where they cost that much space on our HDD...?

Remember when Console games didnt have patches?

MRMagoo1234070d ago

I miss console gaming when there was no online.

Bathyj4070d ago

Im with you Magoo. Online has brought nothing to gaming for me. I dont play Multiplayer. The main draw for me was that I wouldnt have to buy magazines every month for a demo disc, but it seems beta programs have all but eradicated demos.

The only thing I get out of consoles being online is the free PS+ games. The rest of the hassles and issues it brings (like the broken game launches, huge patches and the general nastiness of gamers nowdays towards their fellow gamers) can go suck a lemon.

HammadTheBeast4070d ago

To all these comments, remember the days when games had gamebreaking bugs and no patches to fix them?

2pacalypsenow4070d ago

Nope cuz they were rare and when they did have them they would exchange the game.

Now they just release the broken game ,knowing its broken because they can patch it up later

NarooN4070d ago

I remember back when I'd put a disc in my system and it'd just boot up with no BS. And rarely did they even need patching because the devs tried their hardest to make sure the game was as stable and technically sound as possible before shipping.

The Claptastic Voyage DLC is what it was for.

It wasn't finished in time for the collection because it was new and not apart of the past games.

When you ACTUALLY put things into perspective and look at it logically and reasonably it's not that bad actually considering it was a Campaign DLC and not just some small patch.

Geeze, patches are nearly as big as games now. I wonder how much performance difference theyre actually adding.

EDIT
So wait, having just read the article, this is literally a whole game youre downloading not a performance patch?

"An 8.31Gb patch is going to have to be installed on the first day you put this game in your console due to an issue that is, in our opinion, quite ridiculous. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’s Claptastic Voyage was not completed in time for the release to be included on the original game disk so it’s being handed out as an additional download."

So one of the games advertised on the disc, IS NOT ON THE DISC and you have to download it?

Thats just inexcusable and should even be illegal. Is this the way games are heading? I understand dev continue to work on performance tweeks but leaving out a whole game? Ridiculous. Not good enough Gearbox.

How soon before devs start leaving out the last 3 levels of an adventure game? Its alright, we'll patch the end boss in before you get to that.

Ricegum4070d ago

Huh? Borderlands Claptastic Voyage is a large piece of DLC for The Pre Sequel, not a game or patch at all. It has only just come out. This is completely a non-issue, it's just DLC which should be considered great news for us since it's even more extra content.

Bathyj4070d ago (Edited 4070d ago )

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought it WAS the Pre Sequel which would be the main reason I would buy this game.

Boy is my face red.

Still, I think if its free DLC coming out right when the game came out, it should have been on the disc.

spacedelete4070d ago

people just like to whine and cry for no reason. either buy it or don't.

deadfrag4070d ago

And what about people that dont have internet and buy this complete broken release.Publishers are making fun of consumers, this actually should be combat with a lawsuit since they are advertising that the content its on disc.Supporting this crap is just insane,i hope 2k gets sued .Talk with your wallets!

OrangePowerz4070d ago (Edited 4070d ago )

Complete broken release?

The DLC that is being download only released a short time ago so there was no way to have it on disc. It also doesn't say it's on disc just that it's part of the collection. It's part of it as a download.

Kingdomcome2474070d ago

I installed Sniper Elite 3 recently, and was promptly greeted with a 21gb update. :/

barb_wire4070d ago

Most of that is for the DLC for The Pre-Sequel from what I've read.

Immorals4070d ago

That's bigger than each game previous gen!

On a side note, is this the same for xb1?only got 100mb free atm :(

barb_wire4070d ago

Well, I did read on NeoGAF yesterday that someone said the X1 was 16GB, don't know if that's true though.

Draven12344070d ago

It is the same for Xbox One. Borderlands 2 also has a day one patch too, though I don't think it is as big as this one (which makes sense given this one is a patch including DLC).

burza19824070d ago

Should be happy they give you for free instead of complain.
That DLC been just released not so long ago, so other assholes could charge you for that.

Resistance 3 is such a great game. One of my all time bests.

cooperdnizzle1418d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.

because they all run like garbage and are poorly optimized for switch

G3ng4r1657d ago

These actually run quite well on switch but you are welcome to show us how ignorant you are if you like. I picked up the handsome collection because of how nice it looks on switch compared to something like outer worlds. Outer worlds is blurry trash on switch.

Yui_Suzumiya1657d ago (Edited 1657d ago )

I have The Outer Worlds on both PS4 and Switch and it most definitely didn't run bad on Switch. How many hours did put in on the Switch version?!

G3ng4r1656d ago

My profile says I played for 75 hours so I put up with some stuff. And it does run bad on switch. The latest patch helped to keep it at 30fps but it still doesn't stay there. Then there are those moments when the game stops you where you are to load assets, you can't tell me you haven't seen that loading circle in the center of the screen. Lastly, and most damning in my opinion, is how blurry the game is. Monarch in particular gave me a headache to look at for long, orange soup for miles.

Look, I get it, you're a switch fan. So am I. That doesn't mean we have to be dishonest and claim that games that were obviously never meant to come to the platform actually run flawlessly.

G3ng4r1656d ago

Examples of ported games that look nice on switch: skyrim, dark souls, borderlands, bioshock, diablo 3

Examples of ported games that look like a fart on switch: outer worlds, witcher 3, divinity os 2, doom 2016, ark survival

It isn't hard. Play what the switch handles well, skip what it doesn't and don't confuse people as to what looks good and what doesn't.
