It helps with longevity for people that are that way inclined, but personally, once I complete the singleplayer campaign 100% I have little desire to keep playing it. Time to move on to the next game.

The Batman Arkham series is perfect without a multiplayer mode
no. games like fallout and elderscrolls really dont need it, and would benefit from the time that normally goes into multiplayer be used to extend the single player
