It will probably have a nice trailer and lots of hype to get everyone preordering, but in traditional EA/Dice fashion it will launch a broken mess. I'd love to be wrong, though.

I know its fun to hate on EA/DICE nowadays. BF Hardline came out just fine with great connectivity. It will get even better.

They know they have to treat this brand with respect. Its not their own person ip.

Sweeeeeet. Here's hoping the campaign is like the second game. Hearing the Fett clones thoughts on the Jedi and the war was really cool.

That, and answers to good questions like why that clone line was ultimately abandoned. I'm pumped.

If it isn't 3rd person by default, I will be very frustrated. Battlefront was so fun because it was like playing a shooter with your old action figures. Plus, what's the point of turning into special characters after a kill streak if you can see them whooping ass?

Yeah, this is going to be EA's first proper current-gen game... the next Mass Effect better get the same treatment.

These reports of standing ovations have me speculating as to why... I'm imagining huge player-counts, realistic destruction, glorious effects and even a campaign worth playing.

Unlike every single Star Wars character, I've got a good feeling about this.

Yeah the more they as in developers focus on the current and forget last gen the better the games will be. I can't wait to get this also for Xbox One I hope that with this being a late 2015 title they can use some DX12 magic and make it a 1080P title.

what kind of rig you sportin? I wouldn't hope to play this in 4k on my computer lol. But then again I don't even have a 4k monitor its more of a 2.5k lol and I only run a single 770gtx 4gig vram with 8gigs ram I need to upgrade my ram and either get another 770 or scrap it for a new gpu... it runs fine right now but I'm already seeing the strain on high settings in some of the newer games.

Don't know what you mean by "late" I'm not sure many publishers are next gen only with all major titles as of late.

Many publishers this year are just of now even starting to come out with next gen only titles.

Its just the way things work, those consoles have been around for almost a decade. Its time to put them up on the shelf and get something new. You could have saved $5 a week since the PS4 came out and been able to buy one a while ago, so there isn't too much of a excuse at this point. Of course im only talking about countries where new game consoles are affordable.

Sorry buts really not fair for us who spent 400$ on systems that are clearly better than PS360, that's the point.

It really sucks to spend that much just get a hi res or a bump in FPS but with a hold back on everything else.

Look at dying light canceled for last gen and for what? The game was already built with last gen in mind so might as well kept on last gen.

Maybe they'll bundle it with the consoles for a good price, there are options. If not then yes they have PC as well.

all the more reason to upgrade then, it's been long enough. the xbox360 came out in 2005 and the ps3 in 2006. it's time to concentrate on the new systems and pc only.

Blows my mind that all i see from these new consoles is graphical improvements and THAT'S supposed to justify upgrading? I DON'T see improved AI, or gameplay elements that improve on old formulas or anything of the sort from current gen games only so what was all that talk that the hardware was holding back games?

Just look at the order or ryse and tell me those games couldn't be played on lastgen without all the pretty pixels.

They confirmed a "3rd person component". That could mean just 3rd person when in cover or on a speeder bike. As far as I can tell after searching that's all they've said about the viewpoint.

I am super excited for this game, however I am going to pour a little water on the hotness of this. So far DICE and next gen are not exactly words you mention together. This game I am assuming is using Frostbite which means this game will make or break that engine for good. So far Frostbite has proven to be a pretty sub par engine for the PS4 & Xbox One. Claims of last gen cross over holding / hurting performance on the previous Frostbite games will not stand up this time since there is no last gen versions. It's make or break time DICE, are you up to the challenge?

The Frostbite engine is an incredibly powerful engine. What has been dragging it down is the fact that it has been riddled with bugs and last gen support, which thankfully is going away. They also seem to be getting a handle on a lot of the bugs. I don't think they will ever squash them all, but at least they seem to be more anomaly than norm now. The netcode is less than to be desired, but it is worlds better than it was. (Although it was really bad, so being better isn't as big of a compliment as it sounds.) I know I am kind of contradicting myself by saying it is good and then trashing it, but I feel that despite its downfalls it has some really revolutionary technology that allows them to do things that other engines can't.

- EA promotion videos have been done In Engine for quite some time
- sure made on PC
- short promotion videos does not require fitting onto one Bluray
(this situation will improve a lot after scrapping Xbox360)
Is there any other engine that handles
- 64+ players + spectators
- outdoors (city, jungle, ocean) and indoors environments
+ vehicles
- destruction
- environment (debris, animal like birds, dynamic trees, ...)
- single (DA:I), multiplayer, split screen (PvZ GW)
+ first person (BF), third person (PvZ GW, DA:I)
+ cut scenes are rendered live (BF, DA:I)
- previous generation, this generation, and mobile (next generation?)
- at 900p 60Hz on PS4?
- Is one of the frontrunners for new technology Mantle, DX12, Vulkan
- These are more or less a requirement for VR...

There are reasons why even EA Sports heads toward Frostbite...

Frostbite 3 is one of the best engines this gen, it was very much created for next gen. At 900p, its likely much more demanding then any engine at 1080p.

Folks need to understand, if its at 900p, its likely because its the most demanding, not the lessor.

1080p games on max running on PS4 are LESSOR then engines running 900p on max.

More demanding, more power.

When you think about next gen, think about a PC trying to play Crysis and struggling and that same PC just smokes HL2 max settings.

Consider that Crysis is the better looking game based on its more demanding engine, and HL2 though maxed out, is lessor thus runs easier.

If its running less then 1080p...chances are its extremely demanding on the system to do so.

....thats sorta what you want anyway.

I don't think this game every had last gen versions, from what I've seen it was created with next gen in mind, your thinking of when it was under Luca's arts, this isn't the same game as what that team was working on.

DICE made a whole new game, they didn't continue from Luca's arts work.

This game should be pretty damn epic! Frostbite 3 looks really great, can't wait to see what it looks like next gen only as they have more performance to tap from knowing they don't need to port.

I have so many good memories of both Battlefronts. Almost wondering if EA's entry could come out with The Force Awakens' DVD release rather than the movie release. It was what happened with Battlefront II, if I don't recall. And a few more months could be what makes or breaks the biggest Battlefront yet.

It's probably a good thing because this generation is in desperate need for some good games. I keep waiting, I can easily get one, but then I look at the games available and it's quite pathetic. Remasters and boring crap or weak sports games with minimal effort put into them.

I may wait for another price cut because there really isn't much to play that would pull my attention from what I'm currently playing. I'm waiting for Gears 4. Find out if it will play like Gears 3 and not Judgment. News about Joe Montana NFL football would get me to buy in as well. Just have to be patient. I'm not into buying only online multiplayer games where it's basically a service instead of a concrete game.

Good thing I have an Xbox One. I'm prepared to go all in with this game. I just hope they don't f it up. 2014 ended being the year of broken games and delays. 2015 needs to be better.

I for one who can't wait I haven't played a star war game since OG xbox and that is only cuz stumble across it for cheap back then and I'm not really a star wars fan but the was awesome in its own right, but after reading up it for current gen from ign I will be having this one in my xbox collection and off topic but is it really true that the God of War collection and the uncharted collection is coming to ps4? So many rumors I don't Want to be waiting for an disappointment. I only played G.O.W 3 and uncharted 2 on ps3 I'm mostly an xbox player and before yall try to rip my head fanboyism in here I've had both consoles of last gen for quite a while but I love my xbox/1 and I have gotten a taste of ps4 cuz my youngsta have gta on it

If done right, it could repeat the success of the original game.

Hopefully it's a third person as it was however, I have the feeling they will turn it into the FPS with usual COD Agenda perks and other stuff..

We will find out soon enough. I'm excited but at the same time cautious.
