MS get's probably thousands of submissions and can't be expected to respond to all of them? Or maybe they are, I don't know. When I submit a job description I don't personally respond to the 100 plus applicants to let them know that they aren't qualified for the position. Nobody wants to tell someone no thank you, i don't think your game looks good.

uptownsoul4097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

At first glance most people didn't think Minecraft looked very good either (or Fez)…And those ended up being very innovated games

OOMagnum4097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

You do know both those games you mention was on Xbox consoles first right? Lol, fail.

remixx1164097d ago

How did he fail exactly??

LAWSON724097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

Uh, Fez was a big deal since its first showing, and there is a reason why MS signed a year exclusive deal for the game before it released.

Also MC has a very vibrant past decorated in praise, seriously only an ignorant person would say such a thing about Minecraft

turdburgler10804097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

This is kinda silly. So they talked to one rep at a convention and they never got back to them. Were they only contacting the rep as opposed to trying id@xbox directly? The rep might have quit or changed jobs in the company and didn't use that specific email account anymore. Maybe if they tried other avenues before giving up they would have been launching on two systems as opposed to one right now. Who knows maybe they tried and gamingbolt just did a poor job stating the facts.

If the game look good or not, should be up to the gamers to decide not Microsoft.

tinynuggins4097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

So you're saying there should be no quality control for what games are published on your platform? I disagree. I think as the platform holder it is your responsibility to decide what is and is not published on your platform otherwise you're going to end up with the google play store on your xbox. Maybe you're ok with that, but I would prefer a more curated catalog but that's simply my preference.

@uptownsoul. Most people probably didn't think Minecraft or Fez looked very good but someone at microsoft did, hence why it because available on their platform for gamers to decide. But ultimately someone had to decide if there was enough promise in the product to push it forward. The system works but like most systems, it's far from perfect.

Naitron4097d ago

Hey you should let me use your car when you're not using it. Let the people decide what to do with it. I call dibs on his girlfriend!

Christopher4097d ago

@tinynuggins: There's QC, but that doesn't cover the opinion of "is it a good game or not" but if it's operable and safe for their users.

Also, your dig at Google Play seems based on lack of knowledge. Google Play is highly aimed at providing you more content like what you have used in the past as well as content that your friends ("circles) have used. You might be making that analysis based on very very out of date information on how Google Play works.

krypt19834097d ago

The gamers will decide if the game sells will maybe you will see it on xbox, microsoft cant help everybody regardless if they wanted to or not

Azzanation4097d ago

Read up the Great Gaming crash and you will understand why MS and Nintendo are very picky with what games come out on there system.

"I approached a rep from Microsoft at the same event last Autumn where I talked to the Sony reps. I talked to them briefly about my game and working on it for ID@Xbox, and then I sent some follow up emails but never got a response."

If you submit a job description and talk to a guy in person for a while about the job and his work experience, then don't respond to their emails after... Not the same as a random person emailing you about the job.

tinynuggins4097d ago

Approaching a rep to talk to them briefly and being engaged in a back and forth discussion are two very different things though. If you brought someone in for a couple of interviews of course, that situation would be different. I don't really see that being the case here.

jb2274097d ago

It's a bit of a different situation than your standard job application though. This guy could go on to be the next Notch for all we or Microsoft knows. This comes after the statement that keeps getting pushed around by Microsoft for devs to "come talk to us" in order to clarify their parity clause so for them to just straight up ignore someone whose title was obviously good enough for Sony to accept is pretty backwards. The article said it very well:

"On a personal note, I believe that when Microsoft wants developers to talk with them, they need to maintain a proper communication channel with them. Simply avoiding or ignoring their emails is not going to help matters."

This wasn't just some fly by night new developer, the man was already accepted into a trade show for his title, so he obviously has some form of legitimacy in his craft. It's someone's job at Microsoft to "tell someone no thank you, I don't think your game looks good" so its hard to make excuses for them. If I work as a janitor, I wouldn't want to clean a bathroom, doesn't mean I can just decide to ignore that duty. This reeks of the MS of yesterday & the "Deal with It" mentality that turned people off of them in the first place.

Death4097d ago

At the same time if you are a developer trying to sell your product, isn't it in your best interest to hit as wide an audience as possible? Watching the trailer I don't even see how this is classified as a game.

Christopher4097d ago

I file this under the 2% Rate of Failure Law. In all things, there is a rate of failure of about 2%. No one can do their job at 100%. In this case, he was that 2%. Not because of him, just because people are human.

Dark_king4097d ago

I agree nothing an no one is perfect and this is a great way for him to get MS attention.

Spotie4097d ago

Bull. It takes no effort at all to send an email saying you've decided not to hire someone.

And this IS different. Publishers are always on the lookout for the next big thing, and giving an indie a chance is one of the easiest ways to find that. It's crazy hard to tell what will be the next Minecraft, but you sure as hell won't find it by rejecting devs like this.

Death4097d ago

Did you see the trailer? For every Minecraft there are thousands of shovelware releases like this. Typically we would have to buy a CD at the dollar store with hundreds of "games" to get them. It's amazing how many people see nothing but good out of these releases. There are some exceptions, but the bulk of these indies don't really belong on consoles.

Neo_Zeed4097d ago

The point is that it makes Microsoft's stance pure BS. Unless they have excellent communication... talking to them is garbage.

kstap334097d ago

Maybe not responding was a polite way of saying no thanks. Or maybe MS is just being a douche. Who knows/cares.

Joe9134097d ago

For those who are saying maybe it was not a good game maybe it wasn't but who know this guy might make the next minecraft or something like that and when he do he might not even consider MS. But I am sure MS gets thousands of request from devs they could have overlooked him.

hello124097d ago

I just watched the video what is the purpose of that game, i am confused.

Christopher4097d ago

Looks like it's going to be a puzzler game with a focus on storytelling as you progress through the world. That's my best guess, at least.

Dark_king4097d ago

"Small Radios Big Televisions is a point-and-click exploration game that focuses on worlds within worlds and the manipulation of audio-visual data. It is inspired by the feeling of playing an old cassette tape found in a basement, combined with the atmosphere of urban exploration."
