Why Nintendo needs to launch a new console in 2016

GotGame: The Wii U is clearly not a success. Sure Nintendo will make money off of it in the long run, but after the tremendous success of the Wii, it’s hard to put a positive spin on this harsh decline. While its opponents want to extend this console generation as much as possible, Nintendo needs to move on, and they need to do it in the holiday of 2016.

2016 is too early. 2017 would be acceptable.

A new console before a new handheld? I'd much rather see a 3DS successor first

DarkOcelet4093d ago

I would rather they make a Gamecube 2 with some games like Eternal Darkness 2 and better third party support .

mikeslemonade4093d ago

They needed a new console 2 years ago!

yuukiliu4092d ago

They JUST released a new handheld. I am pretty sure after Xenoblade they will release new games exclusive to the New3DS.

Nintendo needs to introduce a real online network that can compete alongside Steam, Live and PSN. They are so far behind in that aspect that new hardware wouldn't even matter if there isn't a strong online platform to support it and handhelds. Otherwise we're just talking about cosmetic improvements. Wii U is already running HD 60FPS, and yeah, a new console would look a bit better visually, but without a major overhaul to the network, I see no reason to buy another console for minor visual changes. I want to see this new, overhauled Nintendo Network now, so we can get the most from our current Nintendo platforms. They can work out all the bugs before launching a new console.

@Guitarded Also the OS its so outdated. Part of me wants them to make a new system but the other part tells me they still won't have a clue on where to go after the WiiU I hope whatever it is it ends up being more of a traditional system ;)

i already said a few times 2016 is when we will see a new console. it's happening guaranteed.

* 2017 = New Nintendo Handheld

* 2018 = New Nintendo Console

It would be nice to see Nintendo combine the next Gen handheld & home console.

gangsta_red4093d ago

If Nintendo announced a new console and made it BC with WiiU, I would be all over it.

TXIDarkAvenger4093d ago

Feels like a big middle finger to Wii U adopters. Nintendo will probably go for a new handheld first.

EricWeichhart4092d ago

Even if I dislike the idea, I'm happy with the actual Nintendo exclusives and I still have to buy some games like Captain Toad, Lego City Undercover and Hyrule Warriors.

I would wish if they released more VC, Wii and eShop titles.

Activemessiah4093d ago

2017 is more appropriate... a 5-year gap would be recommended.

danny8184092d ago

Another handheld?! They just launched the new3ds I say 2017 or 18

Best 2D, Mario World, best 3D, Mario 64. Can't say there's been a bad one, although Mario World 2 wasn't a true sequel. The Mario Land games were good (not the first one) and also Wario Land. I thought after Mario 64, Mario 3D World was excellent.

Interview: Patricia Summersett on voicing Princess Zelda for nearly a decade

Believe it not, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is almost ten years old. It was a massive game for many reasons – it launched alongside Nintendo Switch, was a new take for the series by going fully open-world, and introduced various aspects like voice acting in a mainline game for the characters.
