Is The Steam Controller The Future?

From EGMR, "Last week, I wrote about the top 5 worst controllers throughout the evolution of gaming. People often forget about the humble controller and its importance in our daily gaming. We have seen the move from joysticks, to d-pads and eventually analogue sticks incorporated into ergonomic controller designs. In the current generation of consoles we see much more comfortable designs, a stronger sense of ergonomics, hand placement and the effects that a controller’s design can have on hand fatigue. Within this evolution, Valve has decided to throw their hat into the controller arena with the now finalised version of the Steam Controller."

I'm looking forward to using the Steam controller.

Same here! Okay it's probably not as ideal as a mouse for first person shooters but is like to try it for most things else. My xbox can have it's controller back!

Is ugly like hell!

For fighting games it isn't. Play MKX or SFV on that pad? Hahahahaha

I can't wait to try it~
Hopefully gamers' staunch resistance to innovation doesn't tank the thing.

Which part is innovative? And is it innovation for its own sake, or does it serve a meaningful purpose? Lack of analog sticks is a step backwards, in my opinion. And that D-pad? I'll pass on that. With so much flat surface, various motions becoming second nature will be much harder, as you won't have that physical cue under your fingers to let you know where you are.

I don't have a problem trying it out. But I don't think it's as innovative as you want it to be.

This is precisely the kind of comment and outlook I was expecting. Thank you for demonstrating the type I was talking about.

The slide pads are very innovative. It will no doubt be a lot better than an analog stick, but might still not be as accurate as a mouse. That said, the convenience could be enough for couch gaming without my keyboard and mouse if it's for a game that I'm not playing competitively.

Valve responds to NY Attorney General lawsuit

Valve has responded to New York Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit against the firm, stating it does not believe that lootboxes in its Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 games unlawfully encourage minors to gamble, adding it was "disappointed" to see the action go ahead despite efforts to "educate" the NYAG about virtual items since "early 2023."
