Is this MS's answer to No Man's Sky?

Very interested to see how these types of games are played. Good to see that consoles are starting to get these PC type of games as in branching out instead of the regular FPS we seem to always get.

Will have to try this out when it comes to Xbox One.

christocolus4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

awesome.cant wait to see what other announcements they have planned.

Mr Pumblechook4096d ago

"Console debut" means big money paid for a "Timed Exclusive."

christocolus4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

@Mr Pumble...

and your point?

Pogmathoin4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

pumblechuck,
"Console debut on PS4" means big money paid for a "love of gamers, such the sweet company we are"

On the game, hope its at least half as good as Elite... The game that started my addiction to gaming....

Mr Pumblechook4096d ago

@chricolus er.. why the saltiness? Leave your console flag waving aside for just one post!I was simply say that 'console debut' is a different way of saying 'timed exclusive.'

LexHazard794096d ago

@mrPumblechook,

No, you said MS paid big money for time exclusivity. After todays GDC I dont think there should be any salty Xbox gamers. Just alot of other fanboys hating on what has been a very good day for Xbox One and PC. Hey but enjoy playing Xbox games on PC. Thanks for supporting MS.

Mr Pumblechook4096d ago

@BakPain Whether Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony; exclusives are never free. Money is handed over. This doesn't mean Microsoft are bad criminals for paying for the Elite exclusive - it's just business!

DOMination-4095d ago

Sony did the same for No Mans Sky. Whats the difference?

dcbronco4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

@mr pumplechook

You must not have watched Phil Spencer's GDC speak. He mentioned several times, as did a couple of developers, that porting to other Windows 10 devices was extremely easy. It took indie developers one day to port over. Moving forward all apps(which Phil clearly said includes games) will work across all Windows platforms. So if they made it for PC, it works on phone, PC, tablet and Xbox. There is no need to pay anyone for games that were most likely not intended for consoles when putting it on your console doesn't cost them anything.

The days of asking if there is anything to play on Xbox end this year. Windows 10 opens a huge library to Xbox.

I do agree that in the past support of some kind happened. At least after the first couple of years of the last generation. Early on there was loyalty to Sony by some because of PS2. But for Microsoft that should be much less of the case moving forward. Because it's no longer just Xbox. It's millions of Windows phones and hundreds of millions tablets and PCs. It's hard for any developer to ignore that many potential customers. Xbox just went from 10 million potential customers to several hundred million.

But it makes you wonder how sales tracking companies will count Microsoft sales. Just because you bought something on a phone doesn't mean that is where you intend to play it.

elite dangerous coming to xb1 , is star citizen out of the question ?

--bienio--4096d ago

of course, Star citizen is to powerfull for xbox..

_-EDMIX-_4096d ago

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/r...

Roberts only wants SC on consoles when its done on PC.

and no, I don't think Star Citizen is um....too "powerful" for XONE or PS4 as its specs to run it are below the PS4's and XONE's....

If ported, it won't look that much different.

NuggetsOfGod4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

Will a game with 4k textures and continouse increase in graphics over the years in an open world as it evolves thrive on xbox?

Sure...

That dx12 20% apu boost got people high as fack...

I just can't wait to play most xbox exclusives on pc!

LexHazard794096d ago

@nuggets of gold

" i just cant wait to play Xbox exclusives on PC"...you and a whole bunch of hypocrites.

DOMination-4095d ago

Interestin. At one point the SC devs were scornful over consoles. Seems like a change in stance if they now are considering it down the line

rodelthegreat4095d ago

Chris Roberts says he is open to the idea but there are some very big conditions that need to be met. One is crossplay. He explains it all here: https://forums.robertsspace...

I play from my couch with a controller sometimes so I can say that it would play well as a console game. The game wouldn't look as good but i guess that is true for any pc/console game comparison.

Considering Frontiers and Microsoft have always had a strong relationship.
And the fact that the Elite games have been consistently growing and getting better.

It's a great answer to No Mans Sky.

Moldiver4096d ago

"It's a great answer to No Mans Sky.2

It is indeed. best of all is X1 will get no mans sky eventually. Porting the PC version via DX12 will mean it will be on the x1 within weeks of the the PC version.

But elite will be epic on the x1 this summer. Played this a bit on PC but quietly dreamt of playing it with my buddies on X1.

BlackWolf124096d ago

Correct me if I am wrong, but No Man's Sky has no "console debut" tag attached to it?

Just, coming to PC and PS4.

gangsta_red4096d ago

I assume they say console debut because the game is already released on PC.

So now it's appearing on Xbox One...hence why it's a console debut.

No Man's Sky has not released yet for PC or PS4 which is why "it's coming".

CaptainObvious8784095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

I don't know why you're excited for this game, Red.

I mean, myself personally think it's very intriguing and xbone owners should look forward to it, but aren't all indie games complete garbage according to you? At least that what I've heard from you for so many months now.

I guess the rules don't apply if you're talking about your console of choice.

u4one4095d ago

I've played it on pc with the oculus dk2. It's pretty awesome.

Hope this comes to Morpheus next year. I believe it was designed for VR.

_-EDMIX-_4096d ago

lol. I think your thinking of this game.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

But, yes E.D has confirmed to work with VR on OC so when the PS4 version releases, it can very well have a Morpheus patch.

Bobby Kotex4096d ago

As an oculus owner and elite owner, it wasn't designed for vr. It just happens to support it. The menus are terrible, but it's playable. The people who like the game are really into it, but I found it extremely boring.

I don't understand why they would release first on the console that have millions less users? Money have most likely changed hands here..

you pissed? lmao.who cares if money changed hands. its awesome news for xbox fans.

Frontier Developments made this game. Microsoft has a history with them. (Kinectimals/Zoo Tycoon/Screamride)

The Xbox has always had people who enjoy Sci-fi games. Mass Effect/Halo.

Why DEBUT on the PS4 when you have to compete with No Mans Sky.

It released on PC first and is a MASSIVE universe that can fit cross play in the future if they choose to. (I don't expect that)

Seriously Frontiers is very independent but they don't have any relationship with Sony so who do they go to first?

MasterCornholio4096d ago

"Why DEBUT on the PS4 when you have to compete with No Mans Sky."

Funny how that's similar to the Tomb Raider situation.

"Why DEBUT on the PS4 when you have to compete with Uncharted 4."

I can see why they would want to avoid those titles. Regardless I'm glad that Elite will come to the PS4 and that No Mans Sky will come to the XB1. The only question is when.

Fro_xoxo4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

I told a clown earlier... being market-leader doesn't guarantee any special benefits.

Games like this and Wastleand 2 are coming to Xbox. It has nothing to do with who's got a larger install base.

MasterCornholio4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

"being market-leader doesn't guarantee any special benefits."

Nope it doesn't. But depending on how the competition is doing it could be easier to get special benefits. Kind of like how 3rd party's are avoiding the Wii U but are flocking to the XB1 and PS4.

P.S I can imagine that its easier to negotiate deals with 3rd party's if your way ahead of the competition. Like what happened with SFV for example or MassEffect.

dawa4096d ago (Edited 4096d ago )

Wasteland 2 is coming to PS4 too.
http://blog.us.playstation....

_LarZen_4095d ago

I'm happy to report that it's now confirmed as a timed exclusive deal. It's coming to the Playstation 4 also.

Phil Spencer Was Good for Xbox, but His Legacy Is Complicated

Was Phil Spencer good for Xbox? Whatever you think of the retiring boss’s decade-plus tenure, there was rarely a dull moment.

Lightning7770d ago

Too soon to say. What if things are more of the same? That's my biggest fear.

KyRo69d ago

You don't get rid of big portions of a division to replace them to do the same thing. MS has been critical of Xbox for a few years now.

As a Sony fan, I hope they can bring competition back to Sony because I think Sony have become very complacent the generation. They haven't had time try and whilst there's been a few good exclusives, nothing on the level or as memorable as previous PS generations.

S2Killinit69d ago

I disagree with your blanket statement but overall yeah I think they need to step up more. However, I’m not sure that has anything with xbox but rather with the disruptions we had at the beginning of the generation. Covid, and then the shortage in chips, then the ram…

MrDead69d ago

Yes the industry and it's workforce thank Phil for the massive industry consolidation, thousands fired and still being fired because of MS buyups and for making people like Bobby Kotick even richer.

Reaper22_69d ago

Thats true. Bobby did get a little richer. But name a CEO who isn't rich or getting richer. When I look around the industry I see a bunch of people getting fired. Not just from Microsoft. That is, unless you think the devs from Bluepoint deserved to be fired. Unfortunately, things like this will continue to happen whether you like it or not.

MrDead68d ago

Can you list other companies that are doing mass layoffs because of spending $80 billion on massive industry consolidation? Can you list other companies that purchased two of the largest publishers to make the industry less competitive?

Your fangirling over MS's corporate greed doesn't work on me kid, it does expose you though.

CrashMania69d ago

Was he? It became slightly better after he took over, but it turned in to a gen of just halo gears and forza. And he tried to monopolise massive parts of the industry with ridiculous acquisitions that ironically lead to the opposite, a near complete collapse of xbox console sales, and putting their tentpole IPs everywhere, all but abandoning xbox consoles going forward for a PC disguised like one.

Reaper22_69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Id say his legacy is complicated, but if you focus on all the bad and ignore the positive things anyone can seem bad. He did have some positive impacts on the xbox platform.
Launched and grew Gamepass-
Invested in backwards compatibilty enabling thousands of older titles to play on modern hardware-
Grew the xbox box first party lineup
Brought xbox into the PC space
Hardware and feature improvements for xbox consoles
Pushed for cross-play support

And there's more but if you asked xbox gamers they'd say that he is viewed as overall a positive thing for the brand. No one expects non xbox gamers to say many positive things about him or the brand. Project Helix happened under his leadership and that is seen as a positive for the brand too.

SonyStyled68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Launching and growing Gamepass as a positive? When it was $1 absolutely! This is also what fueled the death of Xbox as the standard living room console

TiredGamer69d ago

Agree. With how XBox imploded after the attempt to monopolize the industry, and one of the worst launches of a new console, we might be edging to Phil being a disaster to Xbox in the long run.

MDTunkown69d ago

He was good the first 6 months as the lead

Agent7568d ago

Then he forgot about the games. Poor Phil.

Phil Spencer Retiring, Sarah Bond Out, Microsoft AI Exec Asha Sharma Named New Xbox Boss

Big changes are being made at the top of Microsoft's gaming division.

CrashMania89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

MS knack for one upping bad news from other companies so soon afterwards is pretty astounding lol. Can't say I'm surprised though, this gen has been dreadful for the xbox brand.

Being replaced by an AI boss exec though, yikes.

89d ago Replies(8)
-Foxtrot89d ago

I always had this theory that they both wait to see if the other announces something bad so they can announce their bad thing, thus the two talking points bleed together enough to cause overall confusion online.

It then becomes just a big bad thing for the industry rather than a specific company. Wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft were up next again at this point.

Eonjay89d ago

I have to agree with you. As if this decision was made today. Yeah right lol

darthv7289d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Huh... well that is sure interesting.

@crash, is it bad news though? I mean many here have said he needed to leave... now he and Bond are leaving. That should be good news to some.

Extermin8or3_89d ago

It's more the fact the person incharge of AI being taking over. That's a very deliberate decision.

Profchaos89d ago

Xbox fans have wanted Phil gone for a long time he's probably the least favourite exec of all time behind matrick purely because uber his leadership he decived fans and took the Xbox brand multiplatform

badz14989d ago

Indian takeover of Microsoft

PapaBop89d ago

Considering MS's obsession with ai, this is probably a demotion for her. Still, I enjoy poking fun at Spencer but ultimately it's sad to see him go, he's made mistakes for sure but I think he genuinely cared about the Xbox brand. Sharma seems very corporate to me and certainly not the Spencer replacement Xbox fans would have hoped for.

I'm convinced "early retirement" is just them wanting to save both themselves the embarrassment and them getting forced out without the drama.

You bow out naturally while we make it all look like it's part of the plan, both of us look as competent as we can make out during the fallout

Jim Ryan was the exactly the same.

“ Phil has 3 days to clean out his office?”

Why spread fake news? The press release clearly says that Phil and Sarah are staying on throughout the summer to advise the new person.
