Will Sony Inflict Massive Damage At E3 08?

Kotaku: "After rebounding from a disastrous showing at E3 2006 - five hundred and ninety nine U.S. dollars, massive damage, giant enemy crabs, etc. - with a more understated E3 2007 presentation - is that... Chewbacca? - Sony has a meaty line-up planned for 2008. In fact, Sony Computer Entertainment America may have too much to pack into its E3 press conference this year, as it gears up for its third holiday season in North America. The list of games it should have on hand for the PlayStation 3 will make for impressive sizzle trailers and thrilling ship date announcements. But SCEA will likely have one or two things up its sleeve, as rumors of God of War 3 and a new Twisted Metal abound."

Rick Astley6553d ago (Edited 6553d ago )

- God of War 3 (Real-time trailer / release date)
- Heavy Rain (Gameplay footage / release date)
- Resistance 2 (New gameplay footage)
- InFamous (TONS of new gameplay footage / release date)
- LittleBigPlanet (New gameplay footage, new levels , official release date)
- Killzone 2 (New levels, multiplayer footage)
- Shocking, unannounced new IP (Wear a diaper or two)
- Naughty Dog's new game (Yup you guessed it, Uncharted 2)
- Namco Bandai's new PS3 RPG (New Tales Of game)
- White Knight Chronicles (Release date announcement / New Knights, new gameplay footage / trailer)

The answer is yes, Sony will win yet another E3 event.

therealwillie6553d ago

"shocking" whats that about then and who's it from?

Mainman6553d ago

I am afraid Sony will save alot of the 'shock' for TGS.

E3 will be just as small as last year, correct?

jwatt6553d ago

I think both MS and Sony may have some surprises and non of us can really predict who will win. It's probably going to come to 360 fanboys saying MS won and ps3 fanyboys saying Sony won. Either way I think it's going to be a good E3 but I feel like there are alot of games from Sony that we have known about for a long time but have seen nothing from them, Now is the time.

Rick Astley6553d ago (Edited 6553d ago )

Not correct. At least for Sony it won't be small. Maybe for Microsoft and Nintendo but Sony will have a 3 hour press conference on Tuesday and they didn't really have much to show at GDC. They're saving it all for E3 and then most of their Japanese developed games like FFXIII will be shown at TGS.

therealwillie6553d ago

e3 wasn't small last year... yes they cut the size of it... not allowing the public and that, but content wise.... well a sh*t load of new i.p's, trailers and that sort of thing came out of it.

decapitator6553d ago

Hmm, you got quiet a number of things right on the list Rick but you forgot about the PSP 3000. Next week will be awesome.

Harry1906553d ago (Edited 6553d ago )

TGS is on a bigger scale than E3 now and Japaneses developers keep the best for this event in particular.....Anybody remember MGS 4 trailer at TGS? Ah yes sir...you do.And you too miss. Very good indeed.

Is this really from Kotaku?

I will contradict myself by saying that Sony will still go all guns blazing at E3 though.

6553d ago
decapitator6553d ago

Agree with both of you dudes up there. They will however be unveiling their new series for the PS3 and a few shockprises as well. It will all be clear by next week.

Harry1906553d ago

turning exclusive? That would be a nice surprise for Playstation owners.

Tommy Vercetti6553d ago

SONY, MS and Nintendo are going to have great showings this year. Sony will inflict "massive damage" only by surprising us with new game announcements (like God of War 3, a new Twisted Metal, Team Ico's next project etc) Sony will have stiff competition this year. They do not always win and won't necessarily win this year. Of course you would consider it a win if they only showed up with that Buzz Quiz game because you are a blind fanboy.

Jack Meahoffer6553d ago

Fresh totally new stuff. Heavy Rain. Team Ico. Don't get me wrong R2 hands on reviews going to nice too.

I'm so excited for E3 this year. With Sony and MS going at it hardcore I don't see what Nintendo could pull out of its arse to get any buzz this year but I'm sure they'll try. Going to be great all around.

FartGhost6553d ago (Edited 6553d ago )

Sony has absolutely dominated every major gaming show for the last year and a half.

Sony has built up their internal development studios to an unprecedented size and diversity. Sony has about 20 studios making exclusive PS3 titles now. That is more than double Nintendo and Microsoft's internal development combined. Nintendo has about 10 studios. And Microsoft only has about three.

And that 20 studios isn't including the huge number of developers making exclusive PSN titles.

Sony is going to be dominating every game show for the rest of this console generation. There's never been a console with this gigantic number of exclusive first party developers before. Nintendo is the only company that has ever had anything close and Sony is double that size.

Phil Harrison did an insane job of making building up Sony's worldwide studios over the past decade or so.

dude_uk6553d ago

can somebody tell me when sony's conference will be??

Time/Date plz?
thanks

gaffyh6553d ago (Edited 6553d ago )

Cannot wait for E3, it seems like it will be fantastic (especially Sony's). Also I hope Nintendo announce Golden Sun 3 release date or something, that's the only game I really want for my DS.

EDIT: @above

Considering Sony kept pretty tight lipped about everything at the last convention (i forgot what it was called). The one where only microsoft had a keynote.

I think they're going to show us some good stuff. However, just like anything, don't set yourselves up for disappointment. What if Sony just literally shows everything everyone already knew about?

I personally think Microsoft could be the one to truely pull a surprise out of their ass. KI3? Dead Rising 2 Exclusive? Who knows.

All in all I cant wait for all the news from E3.

whoknew6553d ago

Only massive anal damage on their ever loving loyal fanboys, LOL. Yes your a fanboy & your reading this with anger, so what? Your a fudge packer, get over it, the internet hates you!

thesummerofgeorge6552d ago

I hope that list turns out to be accurate Rick, I would be so stoked if they hooked up some Heavy Rain footage. It's kind of a mystery so far, and I loved Omikron.

Panipal20056552d ago

No TRICO/Heavy Rain, no massive damage.

I really hope Rick's list is legit, Rick is this what've you've heard is to be shown or is it just your own wishlist?

Sony will be hot. That is no doubt. Last year they stole the show. As for the article, it is from Kotaku and they can all go hang themselves. I wouldn't give them the advertising boost of a webhit. Worst website period. The line of the condemned can start with that self appointed Sony hater Brian Asscrack.

Chitown712916553d ago (Edited 6553d ago )

It will be MASSIVE OBLITERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! period.
Dude Sony has games we don't even know about, plus games that are rumored. Plus you add the fact that the games we already know about are awesome, then you can look forward to probally one of the best E3's we have ever had. Microsoft and Nintendo are going to have an E3 similar to Sony's last year. Sony on the other hand are going to have that conference times 5. Unlike Gears of War 2, this conference will be bigger, badder, and More BADASS.

1st Bomb: Metal Gear Solid 4 ( a bomb that has not truly shown it's console moving abilities) aka reshipment

2nd Bomb: Final Fantasy XIII ( will move 2-3 million alone)
2nd Bomb phase 2: Final Fantasy Verusu XIII(will move 500,000)

3rd Bomb: GRAN TURISMO 5( Just imagine a lot, and your probally on track) aka (4-5 million units) it will also be bundled with a PS3 ........Believe Me

AND THE NUKE: $300 Price Point

I rest my case

Edit: Don't say play beyond in your comment, its annoying as hell.

FartGhost6553d ago

It is pathetic to see that there are still sites doing everything they can to try to trash the PS3. The hardcore Xbox fans at Kotaku aren't accomplishing anything, just making themselves look like a bunch of bitter Sony haters.

RememberThe3576553d ago

This article doesn't bash on anyone. Michael McWhertor actually did a good job on this article and it really hyped me up for Sony's press event. Just because a site doesn't kiss Sony's ass every chance it gets does not mean it's a bad site. If you look through the comment its about 50/50 when it come to bias. Most people were saying that they were exited to see Sony's press event.

morganfell6553d ago

You must be new to the internet. It isn't that Kotaku doesn't kiss Sony's rear every time it is the fact that they attack them every time they get a chance. Whether they are consistently publishing stories that later turn out to be false - they are still smarting over that cutscene business - or whether they write articles like "Lowest MGS4 score yet" They are unapologetic even when their info turns out to be bogus.

Even EA devs were taking jabs at Kotaku over on Neogaf for not having seized on another opportunity to attack Sony.

When you have had your computer and internet access more than 3 days, come back here again and everyone will enjoy chatting with you.

RememberThe3576553d ago

I see your point. I miss understood what you were focusing on. I thought you were focusing more on the commenters than the editors them selves. However this article doesn't say anything bad about Sony so this really isn't a good example of your point. I see what your saying though about how they slam on Sony. Bash is the worst but lately Leigh Alexander has been balancing him out. That probably wont last long but whatever. About the 3 day thing... I'll have to get back to you.

AngryBot6553d ago

the last 2 years have been Sony E3s. Why should this year be any different with the momentum now behind the PS3.

360 doesnt really have much to show for anymore and its apparent how bots are scared since they keep making up fantasies and rumors about how 360s showing is going to pwn.

They are in for massive disappointment.

Yes, Sony is going for massive damage. Until "things breaks" (Peter moore) and the world will then know that you do not need "HDMI, harddrive or WIFI" and that "Digital downloads will take over by the end of 2008 and that Blu Ray sucks" (MS).

Pain6552d ago (Edited 6552d ago )

i Too believe they wills.

only Xbox for Kids defense Force will say other since they Brain dead Crack baby victims that dont know better since they crack babies....

Light Yagami6552d ago

I will inflict massive damage to Bloodmask, L, Near, Mellow, Xbots and the Xbox 360 with my notebook. The timing has to be right.

They'll be inflicting massive damage to our wallets this fall too.

Mozilla896553d ago

Probably buddy probably. Although I was really looking forward to actually seeing FF13 in real time but I guess thats what TGS is for.

Doctor Strange6553d ago

Oh so true are wallets are going to be hurting this fall.

I think E3 this year is going to be tight race with Sony, MS and Nintendo showing of something that should surprise us.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle51d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7760d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga60d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199259d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga59d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman59d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box60d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion59d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7260d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7559d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit59d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14960d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7760d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
