H1Z1 Review: Outbreak | Polygon

Polygon:
If I had paid money for H1Z1, I'd be pretty pissed off right now. Some players have already taken to demanding refunds. And I can't blame them.

H1Z1 isn't finished, of course. It isn't even being made now, technically, by the same company. Sony Online Entertainment has been sold off to form Daybreak Game Company. Those who buy the game are knowingly exchanging money for the privilege of being an alpha tester, and unwary consumers may have to shoulder most of the blame there. But even acknowledged as an incomplete product, this game has brought me close to throw-my-mouse-at-the-screen tantrums several times in the month it's been for sale through Steam's Early Access program.

They may have a few points...THIS TIME...

But...

PolyCon wants you to be mad just to be mad.

They want you mad....when your mad, you don't think clearly and are easily tricked.

Don't believe me? Look at the title.

"Polygon:

They are encouraging you to get pissed.

Not have an intelligent discussion.......they just want to you get mad.

THAT is what it wrong with all journalism now a days.

It's a bunch of slander and gossip, by what seems like a bunch of 10th grade girls.

Polycon may have a few points with this article, but it doesn't excuse how they go about explaining it or presenting it to you.

It doesn't excuse the other click bait articles.

not often i find myself agreeing with polygon, but this game is going to get burnt by reviews before its even finished at this rate, thats if it ever does get finished.

Master-H4119d ago

Ummm..It's a free to play game, sir. Who would care about reviews when it's finished, when you can just download it and try it for yourself ??

creeping judas4119d ago

@ Volkama, as often as I agree with you, on this I am disagreeing with you. When we as gamers choose to sit down and play our games of choice, there is no money to be had. We are forgoing any and all responsibilities tied to money.

JackBNimble4119d ago

It ain't free on steam ... although it is still an early access game so if anyone expected it to play with out a hitch then it's there own fault .

Here is what the steam page say's before you buy it.
"Offering a total sandbox experience, H1Z1 is a zombie survival MMO set in a post-apocalyptic world. NOTICE: H1Z1 is in EARLY ACCESS which means you should expect bugs and disruptions in service. Purchase if you'd like to help us build the next great survival MMO".

No one should be going in blind unless they can't read for themselves.

Volkama4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

@Creeping Judas, it's just a generic expression from the wise old goblin race in WoW. But a good expression, despite the source. A reminder that time is a resource, and should be valued as such.

People will not waste time downloading and trying a f2p game unless it specifically appeals to them, and review scores are part of that appeal so they do still count for something.

Of course if someone really wants to try another zombie survival game like H1Z1 then they're probably willing to invest a bit of time to try it.

MysticStrummer4118d ago

"review scores are part of that appeal"

For the weak minded, especially reviews of an early access build of a game that clearly says to expect problems.

Good thing Sony no longer owns this IP, otherwise there would be a war in here, at least now we can all agree the game is a turd.

DanielGearSolid4119d ago

Alot of ppl enjoy this game....

You really gonna use Polygon of all websites to proclaim this game is a turd?

Jalva4119d ago

I've proclaimed this game was a turd as soon as I saw the gameplay.

_-EDMIX-_4119d ago

I got to agree. I was excited about H1Z1 until I started to hear all the issues folks had and the ptw airdrops.

The concept sounded pretty cool, but the execution put me off.

It wasn't worth all the money Sony was losing every year keeping them open. For gods sake, I wasn't even going to spend $20 on that crap.

If its not good, i'm not wasting the time.

Gority4119d ago

Not to pick on you specifically but I absolutely hate this trend in gaming right now where people read articles for the first day/week a game like this is out, and dismiss it. The air drops take like 5 minutes to fall from the sky and the gear can be taken by anyone, not who paid for it.

I haven't seen an airdrop on my server during the time I've been playing for weeks. Airdrops are not a problem.

DanielGearSolid4119d ago

I don't see the point of reviewing an Early Access game this early...

Timesplitter144118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

You are right.

However, it's pretty clear the game is very underwhelming even for an early access. It would have to become an entirely new game for it to have potential.

DayZ was fun on its first day, even with only 2 guns in the game and pretty much nothing else (not even functionnal zombies). H1Z1, however, with base-building and vehicles already, is not fun.

It's not even buggy or deprived of important features. It's just downright boring.

Kal-V34119d ago

Using words like "consumers" and "product" shows exactly what type of "gamers" Polygon hires. Not defending H1Z1, just saying Polygon are sh*t.

it doesn‘t actually speak for human intelligence when such products can be a thing. if everybody used their brain such products would have never made their way to the mainstream. people get what they begged for. and i can‘t for the life of it get such mindsets.
