Sony gives Evolve marching orders (UK)

Another new release comes straight in at No1 for a second successive week – last week saw a No1 launch for 2K/Take 2’s ‘Evolve’ and this week it is Sony’s turn to debut at No1 with PS4 exclusive ‘The Order: 1886’.

It looks like The Order is going to be a reasonable success.

vishmarx4095d ago

it was bound to be.its had great marketing, the visuals are top notch and the concept sounds intriguing. thats all thats need to drive sales.
buyers dont take internet as seriously as you like to believe.

italiangamer4095d ago

I completely agree, lots of games that havent got stellar reviews still sold millions of copies. People buy that goddamn The Order 1886 because we ALL want to see the sequels in that amazing universe.

GribbleGrunger4095d ago

'Buyers don't take internet as seriously as you believe.'

Fella, I've never believed that. People on the internet make the mistake of thinking they represent the majority of gamers when they don't come close. We're a niche audience as far as games go.

TrollityTroll4095d ago

Great marketing? I've yet to see a single ad for it on UK telly (unless I'm watching the wrong channels) or billboard (in the North East / Borders)

Agree with your assessment of buyers though. Although some people here like to appoint themselves spokesperson for "gamers" more often that not the game buying public don't seem to pay their claims a blind bit of notice ....

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen4095d ago

It was bound to happen. I think people were put off by all of the negativity surrounding this game before it was even released and are checking the game out for themselves. It's quite clear that reviews that spoke of quick time events either don't know what a QTE is or they exaggerated the situation. Someone should do a QTE combat compilation for TO 1886 on youtube, you'll probable get a million hits in no time.

bicfitness4095d ago

I don't think that Gribble ever held that opinion. I certainly didn't. One of my last posts on N4G was about how irrelevant reviewers had become in mirroring popular opinion. And here we are.

The Order should sell well enough to warrant a sequel. Haters be damned.

amiga-man4095d ago

The Order deserves to do well, the game has such high quality production values, It would be a shame for this game not to get a sequel.

Fez4095d ago

@TrollityTroll
I've seen the advert a number of times on TV and I don't watch much. I think at half-time of the mid-week European football matches you'll likely see it.

The advert looks pretty great so no doubt a few people will consider buying after seeing it.

TrollityTroll4095d ago

@Fez - Fair enough, as said I've not seen any, but I did highlight that it may be channel specific. I wasn't saying there have been no ads, just that I've not seen them.

darren_poolies4095d ago

@TrollityTroll

Really? I've seen loads of TV adverts, billboards and supermarket radio advertising over the past week and I live in the North East.

dragonopt14095d ago

Totally agree, "most" people aren't checking Internet site for review scores. If there's a new release with good marketing people will buy it.

UKmilitia4095d ago

peopel with a brain ignore alot of the hate on the internet.

i had the order on preorder and then all these sites saying its 4 hours long etc come out and slate the game.
i kept my preorder and when i started playing ti i couldnt put it down,i loved the game .

imo the game deserves a 7.5/8 .

i would of liked a punch button or something for when u get close to an enemie and a coupel of other niggles but loved the game, the style and it was a great cinematic game(like they 1st said it would be).

cant wait for a sequel

nix4095d ago

As for the sequel, i hope this game doesn't die like Heavenly Sword.

spicelicka4095d ago

Exactly and people still complain about reviews that they don't agree with.

chrismichaels044094d ago (Edited 4094d ago )

Its great to hear The Order 1886 reached the #1 sales spot and is selling pretty well following its launch. Its definitely a much better quality game than some of these reviewers gave it credit for. The franchise has a ton of potential going forward.

thricetold4094d ago

Nope, as most pubs have realized most buyers are sheep and buy what is advertised, which is why marketing budgets cost more than making the game these days.

Agreed, playing through it now and surprisingly I'm loving it.

Wish more things were set in Victorian London.

subtenko4095d ago

Of course, internet gaming voices are a fraction of actual gamers (which is WEIRD) but true. Out of millions of consoles owners, do you even see thousands of comments on an article?

Nope. Nobody has time for BS, they are about the games

Brisco4095d ago

Well It's not like Sony has other games to choose from.. So this was going to happen.

NewMonday4095d ago

they can choose Evolve, Dyinglight or wait for FFT0 or Bloodborn coming in a few weeks, but they still choose the Order1886 because they want it

kenshiro1004095d ago

Wow, you're funny.

I mean, it's not like there's multiplat games or other exclusives to choose from on the PS4./s

Allsystemgamer4095d ago

Yet the ps4 has more games than the X1...do you not see the stupidity in your comment?

pixelsword4094d ago (Edited 4094d ago )

Yes Brisco, they should all go out and buy an Xbox One: the bastion of exclusivity and variety.

Gazondaily4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

Don't think it deserves those sales to be fair (unless of course people are enjoying the game).

This really struck me as one of the worst next gen games. It just doesn't do anything right apart from its best of class visuals, amazing mocap and voice acting.

I feel like mediocrity is being awarded and here and the title is being carried on its hype. Nonetheless, I don't think it will set a standard for other devs to follow, even RAD themselves so it's all good.

GribbleGrunger4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

You might well think 'mediocrity' is being rewarded here but thousands of other people think it's a fantastic game. I didn't like Infamous: Second Son very much but lots of people loved it, and that's fine. I can't say for certain myself about this game because I haven't played it, but from what I've seen so far on Youtube and after reading comments from a variety of different gamers, the game is a solid 8/10.

NewMonday4095d ago

@Septic

different people want different things, the Order is made in a specific way for specific people, as one of them I love it. sales depend on the market size of those people and it seems to be big.

ger23964095d ago

To each his own. But like someone said earlier, people on this site or any other site don't represent the gaming community. People are enjoying the game as am I,get used to it.

BABY-JEDI4095d ago

I really think you have been way too harsh on this game. It's R@D first PS4 game. It's a new IP. It's original/cinematic remit is very ambitious. I feel this game does have growing pains (mainly from folks like you LoL). But I personally think that the dev's will take on board gamers (valid) critiques. I personally believe this franchise is worth supporting. Like Killzone, uncharted, Driveclub, Bloodborne ect.

nucky644095d ago

be specific septic. I've played the game and can discuss it. you keep spamming theads with your vague rhetoric - give some specifics or your posts are meaningless.

Volkama4095d ago

I'm a "vote with my wallet" type, and I am really torn on whether to support the game or not.

For my mind the £50 asking price for a short linear campaign is absurd, and supporting it is an open invitation to EA/Activision/MS/Sony/Ubisoft to try to shaft us with as little content as possible going forward.

At the same time, The Order isn't broken, it doesn't have micro-transactions, it doesn't conform to any generic AAA standard, it isn't a remaster. As far as sinister publishing goes, it is far from the worst offender.

I suppose the right thing for me is just to wait for the price to come down, but I'm not overly patient :(

kenshiro1004095d ago

One of the worst games?

I have seen worse.

This game has potential for a sequel, which will definitely be longer and more action packed.

Scottyxboxoneandps44095d ago

@Septic
Wasn't going to get this, but got the missus to get it for me, haven't tried it yet but gonna try and enjoy it for what it is.
I get the feeling a lot of people on here are just desperate to like the game, and are probably forcing them selves to like it.
Because let's be honest the reviews were not flattering.
I do think though, the sequel will be more focused on gameplay than anything else after the backlash it received, well I hope so anyway.
I wonder how many will end up trading it in too...

Spotie4095d ago

It doesn't deserve the sales unless people are enjoying the game, and yet when people (who have actually played it) frequently say they enjoy the game, wouldn't that be an indicator- by your own standards- that The Order deserves its sales?

What doesn't it do right? As far as I've played, it's succeeded in everything it's attempted to do. Or are you another of those people who judges a game based on what it isn't, rather than what it is?

And what hype? Despite all the revisionist comparisons to Ryse, there hasn't been a game in a very long time- if ever- that has been so subjected to hatred. There were nowhere near as many negative articles for that game, or any other game you can think of(feel free to check the archives).

And if you haven't played it, how in the hell can you call it mediocre or anything else? I could see if it had technical issues(Rye DID come under fire for not being able to hold a framerate.... AFTER it released), but those are neither being reported nor do they exist in some unacceptable level. At least then you would be able to see these things without playing the game, but your bashing of The Order is based on ignorance: that of reviewers who apparently have forgotten how to review(and this applies to all games, not just this one), and your own as it pertains to knowledge about the actual content and quality of the game.

Gazondaily4095d ago

@Spotie

"What doesn't it do right? As far as I've played, it's succeeded in everything it's attempted to do."

Yeah and having completed the game, I say it succeeded at nothing but being a boring, hollow game that offers nothing new and is lacking any real intuitive gameplay depth or longevity

"And what hype? Despite all the revisionist comparisons to Ryse, there hasn't been a game in a very long time- if ever- that has been so subjected to hatred. "

There was no hype? What is it selling on? It certainly isn't the reviews is it?

"And if you haven't played it, how in the hell can you call it mediocre or anything else?"

I have played it.:

nix4095d ago

Thanks Septic for buying Order. We need "gamers" like yo.

SniperControl4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

Lol, sure, it has it's problems but mediocre it is not. It stills stands up as a very good game in it's own right, the below 7 scores just show how out of touch "gaming journalism" is with the modern gamer, half of the low scores are just sensationalist click bait reviews.

The BS fanboy propaganda against this game from the start didn't help either, thankfully the million or so people who bought the game didn't listen to the petty fanboy troll drivel.

After completing it on Saturday, i give this game a 7.5-8/10, i really enjoyed it, the vast majority of my friends who also bought the game gave positive views.

Roll on The Order 2...

Eyeco4095d ago

Because gameplay doesn't sell anymore, otherwise Vanquish would be the best selling TPS of all time, you know a game that values mechanics, depth and fun over graphics and visuals. Gamers these days don't want to play games, they want to be handheld through interactive Z-Movies instead.

WelkinCole4094d ago

Its a solid 9 game for me personally.Let me explain.

I started gaming since the atari days and started buying my own games in the SNES era. Full priced games for SP that generally last 1-3hrs max for the majority.

Back then it was all about gameplay with story gaining prominence as well going into the PS era. Never heard complaints about length or replaybility because they were irrevelant.

To this day it is still the case for me. You see, replaybility for me is about replaying the SP from time to time as its always been from the start. It is not about adding tacked on MP, trophies or forcing players to buy DLC and skimping on SP.

However this is me as an old time gamer. I would never be arrogant enough to be dismissive of other gamers that do perfer MP dlc trophies etc to prolong their gameing experience.

Its a big enough industry that it can support all. However it is sad to see gamers like you wanting types of games like the order to fail becuase it is not your type of game. The Order is the perfect type of game for old time gamers like me that have supported this gaming industry for a long time now. 31 years in my case. God forbid that once in a while a game that is focused on my gaming prefernce is made.

SpringHeeledJack4094d ago

Wow seriously crying over a games sales, You sound jealous and need to grow up. The game is great and is getting 8 out 10 by a lot of reviews.

If you wasn't ranting about the order and talking down PlayStation games you would have nothing to do. The game has had zero hype and nothing but hate, so id love to know how you think it's sales come from hype lol.

Stop crying and just enjoy the game.

Kal-V34094d ago (Edited 4094d ago )

@Eyeco Here is the problem with what you are saying. NO ONE is saying all games should be like The Order. People like it for what it is and it is a great game, but you are saying every game (at least of it's genre) SHOULD be like Vanquish. I loved Vanquish and i loved The Order. 2 completely different games despite the camera placement. It's ok to like different types of games.

MysticStrummer4094d ago (Edited 4094d ago )

"gameplay doesn't sell anymore"

Meanwhile in the real world, GTA5 not only was the best selling single title last generation but loads of people bought it again for their new console. I'm one of those people, and I also enjoy The Order. So much for your theory.

I'd score GTA5 higher than The Order, for the record. I simply have a problem with the very lowest scores.

TKCMuzzer4094d ago (Edited 4094d ago )

@Septic
Nice to see you linking to a page that in turn links to a review you have written. I Followed the link, read the review on the site, got to the end of the review and clicked the alternative review, some still might not like the score but I found it a far more balanced read, or maybe the other reviewer just stopped and and took a breath before writing theirs.

Septic, as much as I appreciate your opinion you analyzed something which probably helps explain why reviewers are different from just every day casual gamers. Your review had, in my opinion an over analytical paragraph about having to press a button to release the lifeboats from the airship. Not once in my two play throughs did I even think anything of this moment in the game, I just pressed triangle, it didn't hinder me, bother me, slow my progress, make me angry. It's the kind of moment in a game that will only become an issue if your looking for it and to be honest I'm kind of happy thats not what I do because I imagine it could end up ruining a lot of gaming experiences for me if I was to follow this kind of depth in analyzing a game.

I enjoyed 'The Order', I didn't watch any fanboy walkthroughs, I ignored all the pre crap that was coming out, I didn't go by any reviews and I think I benefited from this approach. I like all kinds of games and I just play them, I very rarely over analyze them as I find that just ruins what their all about.

Eyeco4094d ago

@Kal-V3

I'm not saying all games should play like Vanquish I'm saying all games should prioritize gameplay BECAUSE THEY'RE GAMES.

When you look into previews and interviews leading up to The Order's release, it became very clear to me that R@D didn't want to make a game they wanted to make an interactive movie they always briefly spoke or flat out avoided talking about the gameplay, at first I thought it was due to secrecy but no it was because they had NOTHING to talk about.

This becomes even more obvious due to the baffling design choices in the game, unskipable cutscenes, slow walking segements, Abundance of QTE's, black bars.

These choices work well in a "game" like Heavy Rain but in a shooter it's just not FUN and it clearly illustrates how RAD are just out of touch with what shooters are and what gamers have been bitching about for over a decade now, RAD wants you to WATCH their "game" rather than PLAY their game.

I pretty sure it will sell just fine. It's a big Sony exclusive with a ton of marketing... And despite the lukewarm reviews, I think a lot of people will like it...

It wouldn't be the first time a game with mediocre reviews sold well.... destiny and watch dogs come to mind...

rawrock4095d ago

No doubt it will sell well. People have been waiting on a PS4 exclusive. It will sell a lot of copies despite the subpar gameplay...

TKCMuzzer4094d ago

Another comment written by a person who hasn't played the game. Why do people do this?
I hope it does sell well, Ready at Dawn strike me as the kind of devs that will get better with every game, then all those people who do have a PS4 will benefit in the future.

Gamer19824095d ago

I'd say DOA is officially a dead series now.. I know its a remake but the fact it couldn't even crack the top 20 on launch day is a fail with Far Cry 4 beating it even months after launch and even a PC only expansion in Total War Atilla which is a niche title.

captainexplosion4094d ago

No idea how someone could consider this game a success.

MysticStrummer4094d ago

It's selling well and lots of people are enjoying it.

Don't trust reviews, the order is awesome, evolve I deleted as I would get annoyed running round in circles for 10 min kill repeat.

Bennibop4095d ago

Agreed, I am really enjoying the Order absolutely hate Evolve (worst £45 I have spent on a game in years.)

Mwally294095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

Order looks good ill be picking in a few days. People forget that not every game has to be a 40 hour collectathon. I picked up Evolve at the weekend. The game is great i dont know why people r complaining. The emphasis on team work is great, as long as you have a good team. If you get fed up of playing with random people just join a facebook page like i did and find a group to roll with. The game is great fun every match is different imo. Also idk why people complaining about the dlc. There are couple of non essential skins. So just ignore them. You get plenty of content with the game. 12 hunters and 3 monsters with a 4th being released (which i got a code for with the game). Turtle rock have done something different here and it is a great experience if your playing with the right people. maybe you was expecting something different, stick with your cod.

Bennibop4095d ago

@Mwally29 the flaw with Evolve is that it is so reliant on teamwork. I love the idea of working as a team but in practice when team members do not have mic or just wander off on their own which happens probably about 70% of the time the game just falls apart.

Mwally294095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

i agree with you on that point. There are a lot of people i have played with who either dont know how to heal as medic, run off and try to fight monster alone, or just spend all the time getting killed by wildlife. I have had some games like that where it was frustrating. But if you add some people who like to play and join together the game becomes a lot of fun. Or just play as monster and win against the ppl who dont know how to play easily. My psn is mwally29 if you wanna play, if u still have it

rawrock4095d ago

Evolve is a good game. A lot of fun with a good team playing with you...

uth114094d ago

@Bennibop- that's been my experience with multiplayer coop games too.. Hard to find 'good' people to team up with. So many don't play the way developers intended.

UltraNova4094d ago (Edited 4094d ago )

Evole a good game?

Why?

- No campaign? Check.
- Laughable content on release? Check.
- Basically one mode, Hunt? Check.
-The most absurd DLC ever at almost 100 dollars extra? Check!
- The most absurd pre-order DLC. Check!
-Last but not least the most repetitive gameplay scenario ever? (run around the map looking for the monster for at least 15 minutes, kill the monster, rinse & repeat) Check!!!

...and pls spare me the "it has more modes, dude!" bull cause you all know damn well its Hunt you play 99% of the time.

Yes the asymmetric battle is satisfying and very well executed but with all that ^^^ how the hell can anyone call EVOLVE a good game when its literally a DLC platform for cosmetic content like differently colored guns?

Well I dont get you people anymore.

MadLad4095d ago

Don't trust reviewers . . . just trust me.
The reason I laugh at the idea of calling out reviewers in the first place.
You're basically just saying opinions outside of your own don't matter. It's a very closed minded and purposely walled way of looking at things.

Ricegum4095d ago

He doesn't say "just trust me" does he. He means don't base your opinion on reviews, and make your own decision on The Order, and simply that he's enjoying it.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

When those opinions are all based of the same "list" and these opinions don't differ much from reviewer to reviewer something usually is off in that sort of situation. It's either the game or the reviewers. Let's start with the QTE's.

There were only a few QTE's that involved combat, the rest were for interacting with items, objects, and doors.

The rendered bars:

They don't affect the gameplay at all and the game is actually cinematic believe it or not. I actually agreed with you at first, in regards to the bars being rendered onscreen to reduce the GPU workload, but after playing the game and seeing for myself, the reason for the black bars is probably a combination of reducing the number of objects and pixels and making the game look like a movie. The movie thing works.

The game's length:

That's definitely an issue, no argument there.

MadLad4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

@Unreal

Actually, all he says in his post is, essentially "Trust me. Reviews aren't trustworthy". That's actually him putting his opinion over everyone else's, and little else.

@IGH2NW

How many sites do that, and which ones? I know I don't follow such a list. I'm sure many other smaller or moderately sized sites, at least, don't either. There are many more of those than any larger site that may just handle things in such a way, so there's plenty of like-minded reviews of the game, weirdly enough.

uth114094d ago

reviews aren't supposed to be just one person's opinion, they are supposed to take an objective look at the game, even if it isn't their personal taste.

MadLad4094d ago

I'm fine with consistently being down voted.

It's not like those who do ever actually provide an argument to my statements.

mezati994095d ago

antikbaka4095d ago

1) I see % but not numbers.
2) It's easy to be the 1st when there is no competition, actually that's why there are always those postpones - not to lose to other games and occupy charts while there is a chance. Release Witcher or Bloodborn now and The order would sink to bottom and be forgotten how it should be

TrollityTroll4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

And release CoD, Halo, Gears, GTA, FIFA, Gran Turismo, Uncharted or a whole host of other games at the same time as Bloodborne or Witcher and they would sink to the bottom and be forgotten.
So I suppose that's how it should be for those games too?

I doubt The Order will have legs (i.e. it'll be usurped pretty quickly) but that's not unusual, very few franchises tend to stay at the top for a multitude of weeks. New releases tend to peak on launch, hell Evolve was top last week and that was available on multiple systems.

For comparison, how long do you think Bloodborne or Witcher will top the console charts (bearing in mind I'm planning on using my Order trade in to pre-order the Bloodborne Nightmare edition before I'm branded a "hater" or "fanboy") before they're kicked down the order (no pun intended)?

antikbaka4095d ago

it just proves that those charts show no valuable information and are used just in a post release marketing campaign. Games from major publishers get to the top and go down from them due to the perfectly chosen published date. It's their natural life cycle.

>>> CoD, Halo, Gears, GTA, FIFA, Gran Turismo, Uncharted

Nah..Those have a better game quality than "The Order". The Order is just like Knack - kind of console benchmark game. Who remembers Knack?? The same will await the order too...

TrollityTroll4095d ago

Who remembers Knack? You seem to :p

MasterCornholio4095d ago (Edited 4095d ago )

@anti

Knack sold over 1.4 million copies and that's with a small install base. The Order 1886 (according to your logic) should perform much better with a much larger installbase.

Thank you for supporting the theory about The Order 1886 getting good sales numbers.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
