Watch Dogs Dev Admits Game Is Flawed, Sequel to Take Risks

By Luke Karmali: "Watch Dogs creative director has admitted the action-adventure game was not perfect "in any way", promising a sequel would take more risks.

Speaking to GamesTM, Jonathan Morin admits that there's certainly problems with the original title, before saying the developer won't rest on its laurels when it comes to making a sequel."

Christopher4118d ago

Admitting what we already know. Ballsy.

***But afterward, when you cool down after five and a half years [of development] and take your vacations and people play the game, certain elements become clear.***

Certain elements? Characters? Writing? Repetitive missions? Crap-tastic AI?

Look, they tried to recreate what has worked from them in AC in a modern time. I get that. But, if you don't see the glaring issues in your game during development that WD had, then, IMHO, you're not doing it right.

This is another case of a game being poorly managed and pushed out with same of the exact same problems AC and other Ubisoft games had. When will they learn?

Muzikguy4118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

Must be nice to release what IMO is a bad game and go on vacation then come back and FINALLY see the issues. Makes me wonder what kind of development was really going on. Or was that a 5 year vacation to get ready for the real vacation? Ridiculous

@Anthotis
That definitely would be a risk. One I'm not even questioning. In my eyes all Ubisoft games are risks at the moment. I hope they don't murder Rainbow6

nX4118d ago

I still can't believe I bought this game at launch. Still couldn't get myself to finish it... and after AC:Unity turned out just as bad I won't buy any other Ubisoft game for the full price again. This companies' work ethic is flawed to the core.

Meltic4118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

To bad..... They are full of shit

gangsta_red4118d ago

It's the best time to admit...months after release and profits earned.

Christopher4118d ago

I know, form a business perspective it is. But, I think this is one of those reasons why I can never run a business. I don't have it in me to just lie (or at least withhold the truth) like this.

Muzikguy4118d ago

More like it's stunts like these that start the downturn. A ruined rep won't keep a business running

James1Cameron4118d ago

they should make a game called watch cats

Anthotis4118d ago (Edited 4118d ago )

Watch_Dogs was overhyped dog turd.

Having realistic law enforcement i.e. cops who aren't psychic and can't teleport is not taking a risk.

Having an interesting protagonist is not taking a risk.

Optimal graphics is not taking a risk.

A complex hacking system is not taking a risk.

Purchasing the next installment in this franchise IS taking a risk.

Cernunnos4118d ago

Flawed? What an understatement. For many PC gamers, the game was, and still is utterly broken and borderline unplayable. Last Ubi game I bought, and I don't see that changing in a very long time.

starchild4118d ago

Really? In which way? I own it on PC and it plays perfectly fine on my GTX 970 and G-Sync monitor. I don't remember having many problems on my previous graphics card and monitor either.

Sieg4117d ago

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I don't need to go on. WD was broken at launch and ppl had to make config file to bring out graphic that WAS turned OFF by the dev. It might seem fine now but back then it was unacceptable for a game to have visual downgrade AT launch. Not to mention SLI/CF was broken too. Never again Ubi. For more look at ACU

Christopher4118d ago

I enjoyed it for the good parts, but I can't say that I liked the game. I mean, after all, I did finish the game. But, there were just so many flaws, the story was absolutely forgettable along with the characters, and you know they could have done so much better.

I've said this many times, even earlier today on the forums, but we keep fighting over who has the better graphics when we really should be pushing publishers (yes, this is an issue primarily with publishers) to deliver truly evolved gameplay of the highest quality.

Kyosuke_Sanada4118d ago

I agree Chris, push developers to actually deliver in ALL FRONTS because they are asking us to pay full price for their games regardless of quality.

Metallox4118d ago

I enjoyed too, but it can get very boring.

NeoTribe4117d ago

Thats like saying "great game but it kinda sucks."

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack1761d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood1761d ago (Edited 1761d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill1761d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi1761d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer1761d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

gantarat1761d ago

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee1761d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack1761d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq11761d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos1761d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq11761d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn1760d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk1761d ago (Edited 1761d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos1761d ago (Edited 1761d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad1761d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer1761d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne1761d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer1761d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

TheEnigma3131761d ago

Remake the PoP series from xbox/ps2/gc era

RaidenBlack1761d ago

They are remaking Sands of Time.

TheEnigma3131761d ago

That's good news. Hopefully it's done right.
