Evolve review – an evolutionary dead end? | Metro

Metro:
The creators of Left 4 Dead try to revolutionise first person shooters, with 4 vs. 1 matches and the chance to play as a giant monster.

This was a very difficult review to write, but not quite for the reasons we initially assumed. We’ve already outlined why we couldn’t offer a review before launch and we worried that it would take days and perhaps even weeks after to offer a definitive verdict. But two things helped to speed things along, the first being that the game’s online features have worked pretty well since day one. The second is that Evolve has even less longevity than many already feared

"And all this is ignoring the self-inflicted issues surrounding the game’s absurd pre-order and DLC promotions."

I think with the lack of content and that ridiculous dlc price. 5/10 is the fair score for the BS. The author should not have ignored the dlc since he already said its light on content. But at least that's one of the fairer reviews out there.

I think this Metro review is the most honest yet, and certainly seems more accurate than the 9/10 from IGN.

Even without the DLC debacle, they state the game lacks longevity that goes beyond maps, monsters, and hunters. The core of the game just doesn't look that much fun.

The core of the game is amazing!! Should be 9's all the way!! Addictive as hell to, so that debunks the longevity bull that people keep crying about. I think a lot of the people complaining have either not played the game or not gave it a good/long enough go to really understand how to play properly. Then of course u have the folks that have let their mind be clouded by this dlc/micro transactions bull that doesn't even effect the game really. Things still unlock pretty fast. Plus there's gonna be free maps so...
Oh well your loss its a shame so many will miss out on a classic due to their ignorance.

I completely agree. I absolutely love Evolve, I can't stop playing it.

Here is my problem with this DLC plan everyone is complaining about. Didn't Bungie do the same thing with Destiny?? People haven't stopped playing that.

I think people should give this game a chance. The hunting pass gives you a good amount of content, I got mine for $15 when I bought the game.

I don't care what anyone says this game is a 9 for me

I respect the reviews but I don't listen to them I make my own opinions I disagree but respect others opinions

I don't get you. You just said in another article that you hate GTA V Online because it's full of microtransactions. LOL, what? There are no microtransactions in GTA Online other than the Shark cards. But the cash on a Shark card can be gained completely without paying a dime. It's not that hard.

However, you love Evolve which IS over-saturated with microtransactions.

On topic: Evolve is decent. I liked the beta, but hate their microtransaction setup. I'll buy it down the line when it comes packed with the DLC, maybe by Fall?

Wow!! The reviewer just sounds really bad at the game. I think they should have given it more time like they were initially going too. Bad review.

Report: Evolve 2 Was Once in Development, Concept Art Reveals Scrapped Sequel

It has been recently revealed by an artist that a sequel to the 2015 title Evolve was in the works. However, this project wouldn't last long.

jznrpg300d ago

Didn’t bother with the first one.

TheColbertinator300d ago

All I wanted was Left 4 Dead 3 instead

Abnor_Mal300d ago

Was this game ahead of its time? A few years later games like Dead By Daylight, Friday the 13th and other asymmetrical games exploded onto the scene.

MeteorPanda300d ago

if lm not mistaken it started the asymmetrical pvp matches. Evolves logo was a nod to their concept.

The_Blue300d ago

They should have because I played the first one when it was already dead

Evolve or Die: The final days of the follow-up to Left 4 Dead

Back in 2016, Turtle Rock announced that support for its 4v1 monster-hunting shooter Evolve would end but fans wouldn't let it die.

‘Evolve: Stage 2’ is back from the dead as peer-to-peer servers come back online

From NME: "Evolve: Stage 2 had its multiplayer servers shut down back in 2018, but today players are once again able to matchmake and join peer-to-peer multiplayer games.

Several months ago, peer-to-peer functionality was lost for Evolve Legacy, which was the only way fans of the series could play with friends. Upon a multitude of players reaching out to publisher 2K, the issue was eventually fixed earlier in July. It seems 2K have gone a step further now, and reinstated peer-to-peer and matchmaking functionality for Evolve: Stage 2 after four years."

^^this, I have so many awesome skins on Xbox that I’d rather not lose

Germaximus1389d ago

Yes so far because it's just the servers alone coming on and the console version never had the free-to-play update.

I imagine if they find people playing the PC version and enough players are enjoying it then they'd probably reconsider opening console as well but I wouldn't count on it.

The game was epic as a monster. Hunters were really boring to play as to me.

LordoftheCritics1389d ago

I used to play this a bit.

Was kinda fun.
