Five Games for Life...

From the article: "Ten years ago (back when Gaming Nexus was only six years old), we asked ourselves one question: If our collections were reduced to five games for the rest of our lives, what would they be? The staff — and certainly gaming — has changed a lot in the 10 years since we last asked that question."

My choice would be..

Parasite Eve 2
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Outbreak File 2
Final Fantasy XII
Dead Space 2

Those 5 games, at least for me has like an infinite replay value. I have finished Parasite Eve 2 more than 500 times since the day it was released i believe 17 years ago or something. The game never got old for me. Its a masterpiece from Squaresoft.

Its really sad what happened to Square Enix and Capcom. Their games were just unbelievably amazing in the PS1/PS2 days. The PS3 era with all its dlc bs and annualized franchises selling millions each year got into their minds and they had to be like them. If only they continued to do what they were good at without just looking at the maximum profits. They would have became two of the best companies again in the industry.

I really hope they make a comeback this gen and start becoming more ambitious about their work again.

parasite eve 2 was a fantastic game - the mixing of rpg aspects of damage, gear enhanccement, HP and MP into a resident evil frame worked perfectly.

Perfectly balanced game in every way in fact

i still remember vividly the screaming and moaning of the lady in the town when you went down a side road into an abandoned house. took me about half an hour to do that bit for the first time as i was so worried about what would pop out at me!(2:32:30 in this video! ) https://www.youtube.com/wat...

also, as a younger man, i fancied the pants off aya :)

I remember getting Squall's Gunblade from NO.9 when i equip the Medicine Wheel :D . I could finish the whole game with my eyes close. It was so beautiful and off course like you said. Aya Brea was really hot. Gamers were crazy about Lara Croft, they should have seen how badass Aya was :)

Hmmm, so very hard to pick just five games.

CheapGamer4122d ago

I would have to say Resident Evil 5, Borderlands series are great. I want to check out H1Z1 gonna get some games from this site https://www.g2a.com/r/brsg2... and with this code IAM-BACK! gives a discount on already way cheaper than going to steam to buy it. Its a great place to get games.

Pokemon
I would probably spend all of my time bredding for perfect iv pkmn lol
And shinies

hobowan4122d ago

youve gotta go for replayability above all else...so i would go for:

COD 4
Star Wars Rogue Leader
Warcraft
Wizardry 8
Hyrule Warriors

there are so many single player game that trump these, and i would cry myself to sleep leaving some games behind, but these games are the ones that have popped into my head as the ones i have repeatedly gone back to over and over and over again.

35 years later, Mario 3 still does some things better than every Mario since

If all the world is a stage, then Mario is adept at playing all the roles – something Miyamoto was very keen to tell us.

3 had a good balance of difficulty before crybabies stepped in and cried about the difficulty of SMW, which is why the game was made easier before release. Would also explain why most other games have been easier except for special worlds etc.. or ones you unlock after you beat the main game.

Isn't the reason we got a Doki Doki Panic sprite swap because Lost Levels was originally deemed too difficult?

ChasterMies940d ago

This is a lot of revisionist history. All games back then had to be difficult or else they would be over in less than an hour. Super Mario 3 was actually super approachable because you could use the map and warp whistles to go right to the boss. And as with Super Mario World, you could farm stages for more lives. The beautify of Super Mario 3 was the abundance of secret areas and tools like Hammer Bros. suits. You didn’t really want to rush it. The lost levels were a different beast. They were never marketed as a mainline Mario game.

I watched an interview with a developer (I think it was for Disney's Aladdin) from years ago and he said they were required to raise the difficulty because so many games were rented back then. They didn't want the game finished quickly so you had to rent it longer. it was the home-rental equivalent of pumping more quarters into an arcade machine.

The cry babies? It was Nintendo’s perception that yanks didnt like difficult games hence the easing of the difficulty.

This is an odd statement considering the history of Japanese games that had you press X on your way to victory. Seriously, games like Ninja Gaiden in the 00s was born of the developer’s belief that Japanese gamers had grown too soft.

Yep, it's the best 2D Mario game, in my humblest of humble opinions.

Still my favorite Mario game.

SMB3 and Mario World are still the best Mario Games.

That Time Princess Peach Enslaved Toads in the Mushroom Kingdom

Princess Peach. Beloved royalty of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the constant damsel in distress that sets the tone for most Super Mario games. However, there is a darkness in this one, and she is not all smiles, pink hearts, and expensive parasols. No, no. She is not quite what she seems.
